2019 Texans free agency

Too much money for him

Reminder that Texans will get a comp 3rd next year
Only if they lose more FAs than they sign. And with these crazy contracts, who knows what the formula for AAV will be to get a 3rd comp pick?

Was told Mathieu declined an offer from the Texans that was at nearly $10 million per year. He made $7 million last year. Wowza… https://t.co/xndPk2aiDS

3rd rd comp pick...I'd love it but won't hold my breath.

He's not worth 14 per year. Sucks to lose a starter but he just didn't perform up to that kinda check.

14 mil a year?? No thanks. He didn't play $14 mil good last year
The amount of cap space out there is driving up these deals. 11 teams are $40 million + under the cap. Another 10 are $20 million under. All told, close to a $billion in cap space available.

74 mil. I was thinking Texans can put that money in a basic savings account make some bucks off the interest. Woo woo

Sign Adrian Amos. Can't believe the Bears are letting him walk. He's the perfect complement to Reid.

I would be on the phone to Kareem Jackson's Agent. I always thought that Kareem played the Safety position better than Honey Badger did last year. The only reason I was in favor of signing Mathieu over Jackson was age. Now that Option A is gone, I would be trying to close Option B right this minute.

Belief in league circles is the Houston Texans will make a big push for Earl Thomas after losing Tyrann Mathieu

I am not sure on this with age and injury history but at least it's a move in the right direction. If Mathieu contract was to high a ride awakening is coming Thomas wants to be highest paid safety.

Honey Badger was good not great last year. Justin Reid was better in coverage and made more big plays. I’m not spending $14 million on a S with the needs we have. KJax just signed with the Broncos for 3 years $33million. When is this team going to get aggressive in FA? Only year they did so was in 2011 when we got Manning and JJo. Not a coincidence that was the team that had the best shot of going to the SB if Schaub hadn’t gotten hurt.

Amos from the Bears is a good option at the $9.5 million mark we’re willing to spend. Bradley Roby CB for the Broncos is in play for the Texans at around $11 million per. I want us to break the bank for CB and OT. Why the **** weren’t we bidding for Trent Brown? When is this team going to ******* improve the horrendous OL we have. I think the coaching is as bad as the “talent”. Mike Devlin is having these guys trying to do too much and they can’t even get simple plays down. Listen to Seth Payne in the mornings on 610’s MaD Radio. He explains why they suck so bad.

OB probably didn’t think any of these FA were good. He doesn’t see a Hoyer or a Bang Bang from this group. :kitten:

I'm all for this...injuries should temper his value a bit (still 14m a year I bet) but he is WAAAY better than HB (who is very good)

Justin Reed can learn from a future HOFer and we have a promising FS to keep Thomas fresh.

I'm also a UT homer (spent 8 years there!)

Between you me and the walls, Thomas suffered a clean single break of his tibial shaft.........no ligament damage.............rather than plating the fracture, a rod was placed through the shaft marrow across the fracture line [See Figure below]..............this approach (as opposed to the plate technique) all but ensures an excellent prognosis for return to pre-injury performance............with virtually no risk of re-fracture.

Some more misses and you have to start wondering if the Texans are just locked into being fiscally responsible with no room from Cal ,or their sales team just sucks at luring free agent prospects.

Either way, they better get their sh*t figured out by draft time.

Maybe it's because I haven't been on the boards in a while, but this is the first time I've seen a positive diagnosis from you Doc :D

We don’t know for sure that we weren’t bidding on Brown. We don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.

I like Amos and Roby as options for our secondary. I’d even be okay we signing Thomas to a 1-2 year deal. It’s just the start of FA, so the FO could be working on things.

We will see, Gruden disagrees with you.

The difference is Solder was older, Brown is a young, very good 25 yr old LT that the Texans typically dont want to spend $$$$ on. Like I said nothing hs changed and the comes directly from the top. Cal learned well from that cheap old bastard. Count your gold Cal and may your team always suck balls.
Brown was a 7th round draft pick with one decent year. Quit acting like he was an All-American in college and has had an all-pro NFL career. If he was all that and a bag of chips, no way does BB let him walk.

It's kind of hard to blame the Texans for passing on making a player the highest paid at the position when they already have one that's graded out the same and is already on the roster.
