2019 Texans draft

After using their 2018 first round pick on the player that was supposed to be their LT (he was IRed in '18 of course) do you still think the Pats will franchise Brown ?

They won't put the tag on him, but will make every effort to re-sign

For all practical purposes Brown has probably already hit FA as many teams, hopefully including the Texans, have had "informal" discussions with Browns agent so they
already are learning what the market will bring for Brown and the Pats are not generally known for paying premium values.

No tamper rule is not in effect yet...

but I wouldn't be surprised

I know that - my comment was of course tongue-in-cheek.

Hard to tell on a mb with no tonal inflections or facial expressions... your words are literal here unless accompanied by emoji

I just saw WalterFootball Draft and they had the Texans taking LT, Cajuste with the 23rd pick. What made me take a double take......CB, Greedy Williams went later. I'm sorry, if Greedy Williams is still on the board along with Little, Cajuste, Risner, or Dillard, I'd be hard pressed to pass up the CB who many think is the best in the draft.

Heck, let me have Greedy Williams (LSU) and Isaiah Johnson (Houston) and I would be hard pressed not to think the Texans CB problems will have been solved for the next 4-5 years.

On the flip side, I don't see Cajuste, Risner, or Dillard being on the board at 23 in RD2. The team would have to have some amazing scouting to find a top OL late in RD2.

I'm right back to my dilemma, how to get a couple of extra picks to really plug some holes for the long-term without crapping out the cap in the process....rage and trade Clowney for a late RD1 and RD4 or a early RD2 and RD3. Having two extra picks in this draft could be the difference between a great draft and a spectacular draft.

If Williams falls you pick him and trade backup to and get Cajuste.

Cajuste not playing in the snow Sr Bowl pretty much assures he will be there at 23. Without his injury history he's as talented as any OT in this draft.

If Greedy falls to 15 I'm for trading up

Don't know if Cajuste is as talented as any

I'm for trading up for an OT because they need to protect Watson. I'm not for trading up for Williams. He's a good cb. But has not Peterson/Talib good. Top 15

He's Holton Hill good.

Josh Norman is rumored to be getting cut, would you sign him in fa? I think I might but would have to see how he would fit in n RAC"s defense.

If he comes cheap sure, but he showed his signs of aging this year at 31 can be a big distraction at times, and I don't know if he can still and for how much longer if he can play man to man coverage effectively.

Speaking of Brown and our LT need..

Interesting.
Someone mentioned JD was not that bad in the latter stages of the season.
I hope something clicked for him and he continues to improve.

Pick 2-23, our 2nd pick in the 2nd round. Provided LT and CB are filled with the first 2 picks of the draft, what position do you use 2-23 on? Do we go for a weapon like WR, TE, RB or do we get more O-line help at OG, another OT or maybe added depth at CB?

Hyatt = football player

I agree with statement. He is still developing and will continue to improve with ability to transition and succeed next level. Overall this OL class is deep 2nd tier which is where Hyatt should slot in mid 2nd-3rd. Nothing he does will blow you away but he works through whistle, understands assignments and concepts. Will continue to build up core strength and technique as possible starting LT someday in the NFL.

Really like Chuma Edoga, USC RT, can swing to left side or kick inside to guard, plus versatility. Better feet and hand coordination than any of the tackle prospects in this class IMO. Very underrated and he shined @ Senior Bowl playing LT against some of the best pass rushing prospects on the fly. Natural knee bender, need to see his measureables but uses arm length he has well, move really well in space. Bottom line seems to have a lot of juice, competitive and engaged in football, despite reports to contrary. I would trade back, depending how far, trade back again if opportunity knocks and take him early in the 2nd round and use those extra picks to add more offensive lineman, secondary, running back and wide receiver/returner.

Just found this draft report on Edoga, see if it mirrors my observation of him on tape @ Senior Bowl?

I didn't see this at all with Little. He was very good in pass pro and a wall off blocker in the run game. How many passes did Ole Miss throw last yr and how many sacks did Little give up? If the Texans signed Trent Brown and Little was there at 23 I would still pick him and have my bookend OT's for yrs to come.

I really think this comes down to what they do in FA …. and how the draft is playing out - is there an early run on OT's or CB's ?!
You have to come away from this offseason with at least one and preferably two Corners and two OL - be that two OT's or an OT/G combination.

What I don't expect is two rookies starting at the tackle spots ….

Gonna have to see what happens at the combine … how they all test out.

Right now , I'd lean towards an OT in free agency and a corner in the draft (talking about round 1 only) as the former is much more affordable than the latter. A quality corner demands so damn much $$$ on the open market , that's the kinda stuff that can cripple a cap.

What they do about their own free agents is also gonna play big into this whole mess …. Clowney , KJax and Matthieu …. If you lose one or more of those guys , it could alter your entire offseason plan.

Scared to death of Little, not his fault, but reminds me of Greg Robinson, who I was very positive coming out of Auburn (heavy feet and limited lateral mobility). Hard lesson in scouting prospects, especially OL but lesson learned. I have higher comfort level in Jawaan Taylor, OT Florida if he were to fall #23. Plug and play him @ RT as Davenport should continue to improve and solidify LT position.

Is that like Cods-wallop or Cod-swallop? Not sure it matters. Just think swallop sounds like something that should be banned on the forum.

British slang. Beer testicles, i.e. nonsense.
I thought it was an Aussie thing.
They used to fish for large Murray River cod and still can today in limited numbers.
They kill them by administering a sharp blow to the top of the head with a mallet. This action was called the "codswallop".
The term was then twisted into a slang term for "rubbish" - as when you know what someone else said is bs.
From memory, as an Aussie.:)

What sites do you use/trust for prospect evaluations, positional rankings, big boards etc...? I used to use CBSSports (among others), they listed tons of prospects by position and gave player evaluations, productivity history, injuries, and NFL opinions, but now they've got very little info. and very few players listed and their site is junk. Any idea what's happened to CBS? So who do you guys use and trust?
