2018 TT Mock Draft Selection Thread

Did reports come out of Fitzpatrick mass killing puppies? He is #3 overall behind Saquon and Mo Hurst on my board.

Fitzpatrick isn't a natural CB or a true S. I like his versatility but some people will pass because he's a tweener who doesn't fit into what those roles traditionally are. He's a sub-package player so some won't value him highly, even though defenses play nickel about 70% of the time in the NFL.

He was on my board for Seattle but Moore is my #1 WR and fits absolutely perfectly into Seattle's offense. Fills a need and gives Wilson a versatile weapon that can work all parts of the field. He's also great on broken plays, a natural at getting himself open in easy spots for a scrambling QB to find him. That's huge for a WR that's going to play with Wilson.

I don't like to put players in boxes, Fitzpatrick was an All American at safety two years. Just because he has ability to play corner as well doesn't concern me. IMO, he will be the best ball hawking free safety since Ed Reed and the two most likely players in this draft to be perennial All-Pros are Maurice Hurst and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Maurice Hurst is also a tweener, but maybe teams have learnt their lesson about putting shorter, lighter DTs into boxes since Aaron Donald and Geno Atkins are the best DTs in the league. The fact Donald went 13th in the draft after his college production and combine proven athleticism is criminal. If Fitzpatrick gets out of the top 10 picks I think the hind site will be similar.

It could be something of a backlash against Alabama players. The Tide draft prospects have collectively under performed in relation to their draft position of the past 6 or 7 drafts. For every Julio Jones or C.J. Mosely, there's 2 or 3 Marcell Dareuses or Dee Milliners.

Having said that, I considered Fitzpatrick as a CB. He'd be very good in a zone heavy or man off scheme. I took Vea because it's difficult to find guys that size that can impact the game on every down. Actually, there are 5 Bama players I would consider taking in the first round. It's just that history tells me there will be 2 or 3 that fail to live up to expectations.

I like it. Just like the real draft.

Gives each poster pretty good incentive to get their pick in on time. It's not that hard to send a list out if you're not sure you'll be on in your four hour window.
Yep - you snooze you lose in the real thing and that could be costly and rankle the fan base big time.

The Cincinnati Bengals picks Da'ron Payne, DL Alabama

2018 NFL draft: A defensive tackle

The Chargers (17th pick) select - S - Minkah Fitzpatrick

Guys I apologize. I had been checking in here and it didn't look like it was going anywhere so I forgot about it. I was messaged to make my pick.

The Chargers needed a run stopper, ie. Vea, or Payne but secondary help is a need as well and Fitzpatrick will work nicely here.

Again, I apologize and I'll keep up now.

Sorry for the delay. I stopped watching the thread once the confusion ensued.

With the 20th pick in the mock draft,
The Lions take Derrius Guice.

At 5’10 and 212 lbs, Guice offers Detroit three down capability. Guice will be able to give the Lions a pass catching solution without losing the ability to run between the tackles. Guice will save the coaches a roster spot by offering a full tool belt of options.

With the 22nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, the Buffalo Bills select...

CALVIN RIDLEY, WR, ALABAMA

NFL Comparison

Marvin Harrison

Overview
Ridley has game-changing talent complete with blazing speed and rare route-running ability for a college prospect. He ran the full route tree at Alabama, has experience working in a pro-style attack and is a plug-and-play starter on day one. He must improve his ability to defeat press corners off the snap or he'll become a feast or famine target. Ridley's elite speed and separation talent gives him the potential to become one of the more productive and dangerous receivers in the league.

"I haven't seen them all yet, but I doubt anybody in this class will touch him at that position. You wish he was a little bigger and stronger, but he can get open on just about any route you want. I still think he's a step below where Amari Cooper was coming out." -- NFC team general manager

With the 24th pick in the 2018 mock draft , the Carolina Panthers select Justin Reid- safety out of Stanford.

Reid has the ability play FS and SS which allows coaches to keep using the word versatile while promoting the idea of “what more can you do”. Reid brings speed and range to a weak defensive back room. Value meets need in Charlotte.

What we did last year was gave the pick to the team that moved up, and they kept the player. There are also later round picks involved, but they haven't been announced.

With the 26th pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Taven Bryan, DT, Florida.

Falcons couldn't get to the podium fast enough with their card.
NFL.com has him graded as the 11th best prospect in this draft and for him to land in their lap was just too good to resist.
He also fills their greatest need in this draft.

Might be awhile before kiwi wakes up.

Thought this was DEAD, so haven't been checking in.

With the 25th pick in the not dead TT.com mock draft, the Titans select:

Harold Landry, Edge Rusher, Boston College

Landry lacks premium size, but his burst, stride length and ability to dip and rip around the edge give him special potential as an edge rusher. Landry lacks strength at the point of attack and may be a designated pass rusher early in his career. While he can play standing for 3-4 teams, he's at his best with his hand in the dirt as a rusher. Landry can get by as an NFL rusher with just speed and athleticism, but he has an opportunity to become a Pro Bowler if he can improve his hand usage and develop an inside counter.

With the 28th pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Rashaan Evans, ILB, Alabama.
Ascending linebacker talent who has the speed to fly around from sideline to sideline and played with an improved feel for the position in 2017. Despite limited playing time over his first few seasons, Evans adapted a "work while you wait" mindset that prepared him to for impressive performances in three consecutive national championship games. Evans is an ideal inside linebacker fit for a blitz-happy 3-4 unit, but he could easily fit as a 4-3 WILL with rush potential on sub-packages. Evans is an early starter with high-end potential if he can stay healthy.
With Ryan Shazier's future in doubt, Steelers look to another young lion to help out their squad.

With the luxury of a strong roster, the Jaguars swing for the fences and select: Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming

From LZ on NFL.com

Likely be the biggest boom-or-bust quarterback prospect in the draft. Allen's size and arm talent are prototypical for early first-round picks, but it's rare to find a quarterback with such a low college completion rate become a successful pro. Allen's receivers struggled to separate, but there were plenty of times where his lack of anticipation and post-snap plan did him in. Allen can make some truly special throws, but his ability to improve the mental part of his game will determine whether he's a good NFL starter or just another big, strong-armed guy.

I would just swap the pick/player to New England. They need an OT pretty badly anyway so Connor Williams is an 'in the ballpark' type pick for them.

That's easy enough. I guess the question is the other picks involved. Anyone seen details? Believe there is a 4th going one way and a 6th the other.

The Minnesota Vikings can use some help on the o-line. So with that said, with the 30th pick the Vikings select Will Hernandez, OG out of UTEP.

Sturdy guard with NFL starter size and overall body strength. Counter moves don't phase him, and he possesses a heavy anchor. Adequate mobility to the second level. No major flaws in his game

The Patriots could go one of two directions here. Well, three which is trading the pick for more picks later in the draft.

With Nate Solder leaving and Malcom Butler leaving (along with one of the worst pass defense in the league in 2017) they have needs on both defense and offense. But their most important asset is #12 and protecting his blind side is paramount. With that said, with the 31st pick in the 2018 NFL draft the Patriots select Kolton Miller, OT out of UCLA.

UCLA's Kolton Miller is the left tackle who's primed for a major draft rise over the next few months. The Bruins' blocker flashes outstanding balance for his size when moving backward and forward -- in pass protection and in the run game -- and is a through-the-whistle player who often overpowers defenders.

At 6-8 and 310 pounds with seemingly long arms, he has elite measureables.

Per Pro Football Focus, Miller allowed just 15 quarterback pressures (two sacks, eight hits, five hurries) on 544 pass-block snaps in 2017, which was good for the site's 10th-best Pass-Block Efficiency score among 121 qualifying offensive tackles. In a pass-happy NFL, Miller's pass-blocking prowess will likely be the main reason he's picked in the first round.

I just woke up. I don't know what's going on with the NFL today. Getting filled in now.

The Patriots traded Brandin Cooks to the Rams for pick #23 so, for the purpose of this mock, we decided to transfer the pick bah007 made with the Rams (Connor Williams) to the Pats.

Are you sure? The Rams pick to New England was an OT.

That's the part I can't imagine. QBs are undervalued routinely in the TT mock drafts. Mainly because the GMs here don't have to answer to owners complaining about not having a good QB.

While this is true, they are also overvalued by the national media mock drafts. Every single year we are told there are going to be five QBs drafted in the first round and it never turns out to be more than two or three.

You have to consider the situation. As for the Browns, if they hadn't gotten Tyrod Taylor...QB is the number one priority. In this situation, QB is a priority but giving Taylor weapons and protection should be the top priority now since the Browns have no intentions of starting any QB they draft in 2018. With the right situation and team around him, Taylor could surprise a lot of folks.
