2018 NFL Draft

Other than Indianapolis when they had Peyton Manning, no team in our division has shown any consistency. Except being consistently bad perhaps. I'll believe the Jaggies are solid when they do it several years in a row, and when we begin to fear our games with them like we did with Indy in the Manning era.

I wonder if the Steelers think Terrell Edmunds can play LB?
nah, he will play safety but they should go after LB in second round..some mocks had them going LB in first so they will probably end up with good players for these spots anyway.

Some great talent left:

8. DE Harold Landry
13. CB Josh Jackson
21. C James Daniels
22. WR Courtland Sutton
26. DE Josh Sweat
28. T Connor Williams
29. DT Maurice Hurst
30. S Justin Reid
31. G Will Hernandez
33. CB Isaiah Oliver
36. RB Derrius Guice
38. S Jessie Bates

Also:

Nick Chubb - RB - Georgia

Dallas Goedert - TE - South Dakota State

Christian Kirk - WR - Texas A&M

Austin Corbett - OG - Nevada

Ronnie Harrison - S - Alabama

Harrison Phillips - DT - Stanford

Donte Jackson - CB - LSU

Can't wait until tonight to see what the Texans have in store.

Yes the Jags are focused on building on that top notch defense. Solid draft pick yesterday.

Bill Belichick knows how to draft talent. We lost two offensive linemen and our RB. No problem

Really not concerned with any of the picks our division rivals made last night.

Nelson is a stud. He'll be a player, but there were players available that would've made a bigger impact than an OG. He'll be a pain but he won't have a large enough impact on games to affect us unless Indy fixes the rest of that offense first.

Evans is a great athlete but he's a two down LB in a league that seems to throw the ball more each year. I don't even think he's a first round player.

Bryan is a workout wonder that didn't put a single positive game on tape in college. There are flashes, sure. He'll explode off the ball, burst through the shoulder of his blocker, and disrupt a play. Then he'll get pancaked three of the next four plays. He's gonna get put at 4 or 5 tech because of his size but his play strength is weak. He's basically an edge guy with no pass rushing moves. Freak athlete but let the Jags have him.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport made it clear this week theNew Orleans Saintswere a candidate to move up in the 2018NFL Draft.

Ultimately, Mr. RapSheet was correct.

TheSaintson Thursday night swung a trade with thePackers-- rising from No. 27 to No. 14 overall -- to grab edge rusherMarcus Davenport. To complete the deal, New Orleans agreed to give up this year's fifth-rounder (No. 147) and next year's first-round selection.

Many expected theSaintsto grab quarterbackLamar Jackson, giving the team a promising heir toDrew Brees, but coach Sean Payton and friends had different plans.

"This is an exciting, young edge rusher. He's very raw but his upside is off the charts," NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock said of Davenport. "When you're talking about an edge rusher, he's raw but gifted, I love his motor and body type. Reminds me a lot of Ziggy Ansah."http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...s-trade-up-to-no-14-to-draft-marcus-davenport

The 6-foot-5, 263-pound pass-rusher out of University of Texas-San Antonio is viewed as a promising whirlwind in need of some fine-tuning.

This is without question IMO one of the most dubious moves/trades of the NFL Draft in years !
Two first round picks for this rookie edge player, I don't get it ?! Are you kidding me ! You don't do this unless it's a QB.
I watched this kid in the Senior Bowl a couple months ago and yea he's a good prospect, but not worth what the Saints and Peyton gave up for him.

Would be very unhappy with Averett considering the DB talent that could be on the board. I don't see it with him. Maybe in the 6th but no way in the 3rd.

Is anyone gonna be upset if we take Brandon Parker with one of our 3rd round picks? Based on the linemen projected, I'd say he looked the best. I liked him way more than Crosby or O'Neill and he's got the superior size that OB loves.

Not to mentioned we coached him at the Senior Bowl. (Him and Corbett)

If Brian O’Neil and Branden Smith are both on the board at 3/68, who do we take?

Smith can play RT but would be best fitted at RG. He also excelled against SEC talent and is more ready to start/contribute as a rookie. I have both graded at 80. Behind these two I have Wyatt Teller (OG) with a grade of 75 and Martina’s Rankin (OT ) with a grade of 80 and Branden Parker (OT) with a grade of 75.

Man hope Zierlein isn’t that well connected... would be very unhappy with those first two picks given the talent on the board at those same positions.

I like Smith. O’neill is more athlete than football player.

I have given serious consideration to the possibility of taking Dante Pettis at 3/68 if he is available. I just don’t know how serious his ankle injury is looking to the future.

He claims to be 100% but after not running at the combine, chose to also not run at his pro day. Also says he runs around 4.37 when healthy.

Except for this current issue with his ankle, has proven to be durable, despite his wiry frame. Played in 53 games with Washington.

I like Smith. O’neill is more athlete than football player.

O'neill was Delaware state player of the year his senior year playing defensive end and tight end, he is a football player. He has only played on the O-Line for 3 years and the NFL is loaded with athletic left tackles who started out playing other positions and made switches in college. They come out a little more raw but are an athletic moldable piece of clay. It is an advantage that they don't have years of bad habits that result from simply being at a huge size advantage to those they played across from in their formidable years. The OT prospects I knock off my list are the top high school prospects who still have technique issues when they come out, as they never get any better. If O'neill drops to us at 68 and we pass it will be a huge mistake, IMO.

I don’t know anything about this guy but just reading your description he seems like the kind of player that will thrive in a situation where he’s not counted on to be the man.

Not going to make a defense good by himself, but throw him into the mix of an already great defense and he could make a lot of flash plays with all the other guys being paid so much attention?

Fair enough and maybe i’m being hard on him. I just don’t see the innate desire to finish off his opponent that I like to see in a quality starting OL. That’s why I said more athlete than football player. Lacks punch.

@CloakNNNdagger , Do you have any thoughts on how far Maurice Hurst is going to fall? Is it likely he never plays in the NFL because of the heart condition they discovered? On film he was the most dominate defensive player in this draft, seems like teams would roll the dice if it was a low probability of effecting his career.

Hurst was red-flagged at the Combine for a cardiac irregularity. He was worked up by his own doctors and cleared to play Pro Day. The hesitancy in the Draft comes from two factors. One...........this is apparently a RECURRENT problem in that he suffered similar episodes in his freshman year at Michigan. Two............there are no reports being released as to what specific cardiac condition is causing the irregular heart beat............some can be easily controlled and others not..........with some requiring surgery. The teams will have been supplied with the relevant available information..........however, some conditions can be unpredictable as to their long-term implications. I believe that there lies the quandary of a Draft "approach/avoidance" as to when or if a team feels comfortable with picking him.

That's the best answer I can give at this time.

Pass rushers are valued just behind QB, and ahead of LT and CB positions.

I can't stand Steve Smith as an analyst.

Just had to say that. Carry on.

2018 round 1 and 2 Texans draft recap:

With the #4 pick overall in 2018 NFL draft the texans select qb Deshaun Watson (again.)

I'm impressed.

Our second round pick however is what now? #35 overall for the browns I Guess? Did they retain it or juggle it for other picks? Whatever.

With a second round pick in the 2018 NFL draft the Houston Texans select 16 million dollars.

And I'm still pissed.

We need to have our best 3rd round ever. Sam Montgomery's aren't going to cut it.

We finally make a move, today!

Thoughts,

Not really into trading up, I would LOVE to trade down with our last 3rd and pick up another 5th.

I'd say there's a 99% chance the Texans will select someone other than an o-lineman with their first pick. They really should stay with their draft board and not reach for an OT just because he's an OT. Building an o-line basically from scratch takes a few years.

I personally don't want the Texans to move up or down in this draft unless it's a sweetheart of a deal.

I want to agree. But right now Davenport and Henderson are slated to protect our quarterback coming off a major injury.

Let's not "carr" Watson.

If the talent margin on our board is even close we have to get ol help. Especially with the run on ol we're watching right now.

Online online online, that’s all you guys talk about. Which Oline guy that’s going to be available in the third round this year that will start?

Who then?

Maybe not third, but could always trade up for Connor Williams but they gotta move up and quick.

I wasnt calling you out Powda. I was just sayin, whos left that could start? Im passing up whats left if some of the big names are still there at RB, TE, CB and DL.

Honestly, at this rate with ol being scooped up It's a non issue anyway. In the 3rd when we pick the best ol may have a mid to late 4th round grade. I'm not ok with that gap in talent for need.

And now let the run on te's begin. Damn.

The issue is this is an extremely weak OT draft class. Last year was bad, too.
