2017 NFL Draft - 1st Round discussion thread

Problem is **** up his the only thing our front office does. Bortles isn't a franchise QB. The tacks finished 9-7 last year same as us and I couldn't name a player on that team other than Mariotta. Clots weren't far behind at 8-8 with no defense, no offensive line, and so so receivers. You make it sound like an accomplishment having a 9-7 record without a legit QB. It's pretty damn easy when your team plays in a **** division.

If you can't name more than Mariota on the Titans, you don't watch or follow football very closely, which influences how people view your opinion.

I never said I wanted an offensive tackle period. But as of now at pick 18 not one offensive lineman has been taken yet in the draft...

That must be quality OL talent then.

What would you have done? The team had no QB and wasn't getting one without this move

Yup. Ricky stood up with a big grin and started applauding while ob sat with his head down. Definitely noticed.

But, i have to, HAVE TO, think in a jump that big they all signed off on it. No way they jump 13 spots in the first round if ob isnt onboard...

Right?
No McNair and Smith made this move I think from the video. McNair doesn't know anything about QB's and Smith is a yes man. I would guess the same two wanted Brock last year. Just my opinion.

I've been watching football for 30+ years religiously...I've been following football since i was 5 years old...don't sit here and tell me what you think you know because I don't keep up with the tacks scrubs...

What does that have to do with what I said?

Tacks are in our division and had a pretty decent team last year. You said you can't name anyone but their QB. That's one of the teams that you should atleast know more than 1 player on their team if you watch the NFL. I didn't say anything outside of the obvious. Sorry bout it.

So if somebody wants to break out the jimmy johnson trade value chart and play a numbers game id be happy to see how it adds up. Next years pick "should be" a mid to late 20's pick.

If we finish 1-15 clearly Cleveland won. If we finsh 9-7 we probably still balance out. A 13 slot move in the first round for next years first round pick is solid value. Check the history and you wont find it often.

Dont hate this trade. We got raped by Cleveland on the oz deal. Not this one.

If you dont like watson that's a separate issue from the trade (value) itself.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the ranking of QBs Watson #1 Turbiskie #2 and Mahomes #3??? So we got the top rated QB? The one that no one thought would be there for us? Seems like we did fairly well to me.

From the get go I didn't like him because he's only a 3 year junior, that's high risk and history is against him. His 17 INTs is scary and partly aresult of his change up. That will only get worse in the NFL. Especially when you're not playing in the spread.

That sure feels like a case of torturing the data until it confesses. Not saying that you did it, just that somebody did.

Memorize? Titans have already chosen two players in this draft, so next year you should know 3 players. That took all of how much time to accomplish? Memorize?

Ok.

The rankings varied, everything I saw had Watson at number 2 or 3, I think I saw him rated number 1 on one mock.

DeMarco Murray
That giant bust of a DE
... the kicker that died?

About all the Tacks I can remember. Not good enough to fear, not crappy enough to remember I suppose.

I like going up to get your guy.

I don't think this was that more than it was desperation that came from your own mismanagement and failed coaching. And that's a bigger problem than any one layer.

Go Deshaun, kick some ass bro!

Good thing is, his success is most determined now by him. It doesn't matter if they panicked when they took him, all that matters now is how he prepares and learns. That's the beauty of it and he appears to be a smart guy with excellent drive and poise.

Maybe they did panic, but if he works out, that doesn't really matter.

Anyone get the feeling a lot of people here just like to *****. We don't have a qb, trade up for one who played in back to back title games and won one. Stupid trade???

What side are these people on?

Oh wait, so smart yet don't when to walk away

So smart yet don't when to walk away?? Lmao...fish in a barrel

This is where knowing jack **** about college football helps.

I don't know a ******* thing about Deshaun Watson so all I can do is root him on, and sit back and see what happens.

As easy as it may be, we're the only ones who did it two years in a row. Winning the division both times.

I'm not saying it's a major accomplishment of any kind, I'm saying head to head against our peers, even with their franchise QBs, we've beat them 4 of the last six years. We swept the Colts last season. The Jags didn't. The Titans didn't, we did. We won the last three vs the Colts...

Rick Smith is doing something right, despite not finding a QB that can work with O'b

I'm curious. I can think of SF and GB. Are there any other teams in the last 30 years to have built dynasties that spanned multiple QBs?

I am very sick of having no hope every year because I know our offense is going to be horrible. If you think you can get a quarterback picking 25 or later, you might get lightning in a bottle if you're lucky. There ain't that many Brady's running around. If you think Watson sucks, that's fine. You can't tell about any of em for sure.

We do know that Texans did get their guy rather than drafting whomever at 25 and then saying they got the guy who was #1 on their board. If Obrien and his QB coach cannot make at least a solid Qb out of Watson they both need to be fired and well could be.

I hear what you are saying but after Beard Boy, Bald Boy, and Laser Boy can blame the fan base for reaching for a QB after trading away a 2nd to get rid of mistake then basically spend two firsts to draft a "maybe"?

Look I was glad to get rid Oz, but damn we don't pick until the weekend next year and it's not like this team doesn't have holes. This is a big reach, big. This team is t in a position to reach.

I would have gladly taken Reuben Foster and ran with Savage until the QB situation changes in the league.

Do we really know Watson was their guy? Couldn't it have been a panic move?

Projected contract for Houston Texans 1st round selection Deshaun Watson (QB)

I'll be very disappointed if O'b doesn't have us in a very spread-like offense.

He better be all that and a bag of potato chips because we took a ******* bath on QB's over the past two seasons.

What's the draft chart say?

We wont know fully until next season is over. My guess is if we're .5oo or better we finsh ahead. Let's not forget next years picks are typically valued 1rd less (i know you know this but others may not.) I like the value. I like that we actually addressed a team need in rd 1. I have my concerns about dwat but i see some things i love to.

That ship has sailed. Now i want some beef at tackle and guard to help him.

You should see what people were saying when we picked JJ Watt..

I do get being disappointed at a pick, probably a little too early to start proclaiming that the Texans failed. If he is what they hope he is we won't be too worried about what we gave up to get him.

Ain't a one of you guys that has hated what this team has done over the years more than me. But, this is our 1st QB since we drafted David Carr.... I know... you just slit your wrist... for some of you... good call :)

Honestly, the only butthurt people here have to be the ones caught in the echo chamber that convinced them that Tom Savage was good.

Not at all man. I think he'll electrify and make more than his share of plays with his mobility, I just don't see him progressing enough as a true pocket passer to be able to win from the pocket like teams will eventually force him to do.

I don't think he'll ever fully be able to make that transition that McNabb, McNair and more recently Wilson made as guys who learned to use their mobility to buy time to throw as opposed to it being a significant piece of their games. His deep ball accuracy also concerns me.

Having said all this, im the same guy that dismissed JJ Watt as a "try hard" guy when we made that pick.

Do we really know Watson was their guy? Couldn't it have been a panic move?

Mayock opened the broadcast by saying what a boner the Texans had for Watson when they were discussing landing spots for the QBs, FWIW.

Tempted to watch ESPN just to see what a shitshow that must be like after all of the bloodletting they just did on both sides of the camera

What's the draft chart say?

It's not just the draft chart.. it's the fact that next year we'll have to watch the first 64 (atleast) players come off the board before we'll even be able to add to our team... that will come back to haunt us unless we knock the hell out of the rest of this draft.. and find some steals late and I don't trust our FO to do that.

QB wasn't our only hole and Watson is most likely a year away at the soonest. He's got a lot to learn. I just don't like losing high picks, especially with a G.M. who sucks in the middle rounds

This first I can take, because atleast we got a prospect back.. The second I can't..they just pissed that one away, but all of this could've been avoided if they just stopped being the smartest people in the room and took a chance on a QB years ago.

All I know, if this doesn't work out with all the picks they just handed out..it's going to set this team back atleast 5 years..maybe more.

Joking aside, in all seriousness, Quincy Carter was probably the better athlete.

Quincy Carter is most definitely a better athlete... Better than Brady, better than Manning, Montana, etc...
So I'm not really sure what your point is or that it proves what you want it to prove

Do we really know Watson was their guy? Couldn't it have been a panic move?
IMO this team would not move up 13 spots to #12 in a panic. Is it possible that Houston and Cleveland discussed this move when they made the Osweiler trade?
