2016 NFL Draft

Wasn't trying to be a dick about it. Just saying, if he wasn't doing it in college then the odds of him doing it in the NFL aren't all that great. Does he have the speed? Absolutely. But the fact that he had the speed in college and was never utilized in that fashion is telling.

Not really, I am sure he isn't the only great athlete ND had. Last year they had a freshmen returning kicks if I am not mistaken? OB has already said Fuller will compete with the returners. He definitely has the skill set. Lets see what happens.

But in the meantime, he is a great guy for the slot position. he will compliment Hopkins and Strong quite well.

O'Brien already came out and said Fuller will be playing outside, not in the slot. I get where you're coming from, his measureables scream return/slot guy. But this is a guy who never returned kicks in college and who played almost exclusively on the outside and you're immediately penciling him in to contribute doing both of those at the next level when he has zero experience doing either.

It appears that OB shares the Al Davis all encompassing obsession for speed. Al had many more misses than successes when he drafted speed.

OB said that Fuller will line up on the outside and if that is the case you can expect Strong to line up in the slot

OB is a coach and more speed is what he wants. I get it. I want more speed too. Here's the actual quote right out of the gate from Rick Smith at the press conference though...

"He is fast. He can run. That's his greatest attribute obviously. He had the fastest forty yard dash at the Combine".

Well thanks Rick. How is he at football though? Because this is not a track meet. At least when OB got on the mic he talked about how smart the kid is and how he comes from a good family and has a good work ethic.

You do know that NFL.com & Lance Zierline rated Fuller as the best WR in the draft? I wouldn't be surprised if the Texans graded him as the best as well. Just because he's fast doesn't mean he can't play football.

Agree, it does appear that the Texans have their priorities reversed. I don't think there is any question that the reason Fuller was drafted was because of his speed. I'm all for drafting speed as long as you're drafting the football player first and not the track star. In this case I think the Texans drafted them a Track Star. When I see Texans draft pick scroll on TV followed by Doctson and Treadwell I cringe every time.

The track star things doesn't make sense to me with Fuller. When I hear track star I think, lack of production, not at all polished, and perhaps even some confusion about position.

Fuller had great production. He's not the most polished, but he's coming in with development in that area. His position is also not in question. He has one concerning issue and that's consistent hands. "Butter fingers" would be more accurate than track star.

I don't agree that he's just a track star.

He's a football player, he runs decent routes and he can run with the ball.

He does seem slight, but I'm used to seeing AJ out there.

And I do have concerns with his catching, but he's shows up for big plays in big moments.

He's a football player. Just not the one you wanted.

He interrupted his circle jerk to bring us this message, so did the Texans get Darius Heyward-Bey or Johnny Lam Jones? He dropped more passes than anyone in college last year so we have that to look forward to.

I should add that there is the size issue on top of the drop issue, particularly if he's pressed. It's not so much an issue, but a question mark. We have no idea how he plays through press coverage. I think teams were afraid he'd slip past the screen and immediately be open for a big play considering there aren't a lot of college teams with legit press corners. But press corners are kind of a thing now in the NFL, so he'll see alot of it.

On that subject, I do remember Florida State playing some press on him in 2014. These guys at FSU are all NFL corners now so it's a good video to watch.

Forgive the poor FSU scheming. When we lost our DC to Georgia after the Championship, we replaced him by a guy who can't scheme for ****.

I'm sure Fuller will see a lot of press in TC.

You're not very good at insults, lol

I think we got Will Fuller.

And Will Fuller makes plays.

And I've heard he's fast.

You can hide him from the press a little bit by playing him off the line, even if he's not in the slot.

Guys will still get their hands on him but with his quickness that extra step should help him release. And he does have good feet.

His small frame is scary for returning kicks. If he gets hurt who will take the top off?

O'Brien: At WR, Fuller is expected to start on the outside at first. He will also be evaluated as a returner, "along with other guys."

I'm glad our coach is approaching this rationally. OB really does seem like he knows exactly what this kid is and that gives me a lot of hope about the pick.

I think Fuller can eventually play in the slot. And I think he can eventually return kicks. But it's not realistic to just automatically pencil him in to those two jobs when he has never done them before. We evaluated him. Now it's time to teach them. Then we unleash him.
