2015 Houston Cougars Season

Blake

MMQB
I finally made the commitment and purchased season tickets this year. My wife and I will be in section 230.

I am pretty amped about Coach Herman. With his background and what he did last season he definitely brings excitement and potential to this program. I am hoping he can get this program back on track to bigger and better things.

First game is less than 10 days away. The first one should be just a glorified practice but its going to be interesting to see how the players look in the new schemes with the lights on. I will miss the game because I am going to Motley Crue's last Houston show ever, but the next week is when its really going to be interesting to see how we measure up against Louisville. I am saying 8-4 now because we have some big holes to fill in the front 7 and oline had issues last year and I am not sure how much better they will be this year. I am excited for the future because CTH seems to be a good recruiter so the talent level should begin to rise as he gets his guys on campus.

What a game. It seemed like every time it looked like Louisville hinted at taking control the Coogs would answer some how some way. Greg Ward was just clutch in the 4th quarter scrambling to get positive yards and throwing the ball on the move. Its going to be interesting to see how many are out at TDECU for the Texas St game on the 26th.

Pleasantly surprised by the win over Louisville. Keep it up Coogs!

Coogs looking good, going into a ACC teams house and coming out with a win. I really feel the American Conference can become a power house with the likes of Houston, UCF, Connecticut, and Cincy. South Flordia seems to be building something there as well.

Houston Cougars are going for 4-0 at Tulsa tomorrow.
11 AM kick off on the CBS Sports Network. Go Cougs!
That's channel 106 for those of us with Xfinity digital cable.
They should be ranked before long if they stay undefeated.

Alumni who donate money to the program. They are still welcome to fly with the team, just not in first class.

Wow. Sucks for the people who pay for way more than just a first-class ticket. Do they get compensated for giving up their spot?

Love the coach, but dislike the move.

They don't have to pay to fly with the team. The athletic department covers the cost. Flying with the team is just a perk that comes with donating above a certain amount of money to the program.

I love the move, btw. It takes a lot of stones for a first year coach to do something like that. And I'm sure he didn't do it without consulting some of the big-money donors. It's more about the message it sends, and I'm sure the players love it.

Herman got this from Urban Meyer. He did it at Florida and Ohio St. The team comes first before everything, even money. And the big guys in the trenches are where games are won and lost. Treat those boys right.

So, yes, they pay for the ticket.

Vegas comes to mind. Free food, free board, because your fair money, and a lot of it, will stay in Vegas one way or another. I would think the coach who do this as a reward, but they've won nothing.

You could look at it that way. But a donation to the program should come without any expectation of a reward. The boosters should care more about the success of the program and less about what they can gain personally for their money (a BIG problem at UT lately, btw).

It should also come without getting kicked out of your seat on a plane trip you funded. Love ya bro, but we'll disagree on this one.

I guess it's because I saw my dad throw tons of money at the program and get treated like dirt in the process. For the record, I consider myself a longtime, die hard Cougar fan.

Tulsa is giving Houston quite a game. I expected a blowout even on the road.

14-10 Cougars late in the first half and Tulsa is driving.

Two fourth down conversions for Houston's offense were stopped. Not sure why we didn't kick the field goal on the last one. 3 points is still 3 points. Don't out-coach yourself, Tom Herman. You're the best young head coach in the country.

At least Greg Ward Jr. is playing well again. Does he have a future in the NFL? He's only 5'11 and 178. Very shifty and a good runner. Probably not at quarterback but perhaps a returner on special teams and running back?

Two big sacks in the first half for linebacker Steven Taylor.
He may have just pushed Tulsa out of field goal range.

The way this game has gone Houston should feel good if they reach halftime with the lead. Tulsa is going to receive to start the second half.

Just doesn't seem like Houston is playing their best football today but with a win they'll be 4-0 and moving closer to a top 25 ranking. Probably on the honorable mention list with some other undefeated teams. U of H will be in the top 25 at some point this season if they don't lose.

Tulsa missed a field goal. Wide left. Cougars still lead 14-10. Almost halftime.
They may have time to take some shots deep and put up another score.

What a drive by Greg Ward Jr. Houston just gained a ton of yards in so little time. They have a chance to score a Touchdown before halftime. Already in field goal range.

Greg Ward Jr. with his third rushing Touchdown in the first half.
This one was his best one yet. 21-10 Houston Cougars lead now.

Still 15 seconds left until halftime.

Just ride Greg Ward Jr.'s legs to victory. Heisman candidate?

See you in top 25 rankings soon, Houston Cougars. Keep winning games.

Tom Herman answered my question during his on-field halftime interview walking to the locker room. He basically said, "Our culture is to always go for fourth and short. We're not executing our culture and it's a bit embarrassing. We'll get that corrected and play better football."

Nonetheless, it' 21-10 Houston Cougars at halftime.
Tulsa has played well defensively so give them some credit.
At least Greg Ward Jr. was able to rush for three Touchdowns.

If Houston holds on in the second half they'll be 4-0. I'm impressed.

Should be 3 rushing TD already and still at Half time. 11 rush for 121 yards with 3 TD. Passing 9/15 162 yards and total yards for Ward 283 yards at the half time. Very impressive in my book.

I wonder if he could become the next Russell Wilson in the NFL?
Lack of size isn't what it used to be. He can make big plays at quarterback.

Coogs just can't put Tulsa away. Come on Coogs, drive down the field for a TD.

Eat 'em up, Cougs! 4-0 record. Nice 38-24 win at Tulsa.
The top 25 rankings are in their near future.

I want to them to run the table this season.
They're going to claim some national respect then.

The Houston Cougars next game is Thursday Night on October 8 against SMU here in Houston. 8 PM Eastern and ESPN2 will air it nationally.

That's the same time the Texans host the Colts on Thursday Night Football on CBS and the NFL Network. The Texans game will kick off about 25 minutes after the Cougars game, but they're going to be played at the same time.

I'll have to follow both games at the same time.
Great sports night on Thursday here in Houston.

I like it, but why did the schedule makers have to make it that way?
I'd rather give my full attention to one game on different days. LOL

That's too much football going on this Thursday Night here in Houston!!!!

I have a dilemma for this Thursday night. I have season tickets to both the Texans and Cougars, they both play at home Thursday night. Which game do I go to?

I have season tickets for both as well and after seeing the performance by the Texans so far this season the decision wasn't as hard as I thought it might be. I am going to be at TDECU Thursday night. GO COOGS !!!

If my plan works out, I will go to the UH game, the Coogs will be up 38-0 at the half. I will then get in my truck and head over to NRG and try to catch the 2nd half of the Texans game unless of course they are down 38-0.

Definitely go the the UH game. The Texans are a dumpster fire and how long has it been since you have been excited about the Cougs? However I like your plan if it is working out.

I am in the same boat. I am trying to sell my Texans tickets, but if I cant get good value, I will just go to the Texans game.

Cougars, Texans, Stars (1st game) and maybe even the Astros (ALDS Game 1 against the Royals -- if they beat the Yankees tonight). Every game would start at about the same time.

Thursday Night is going to be a sports-packed night.
I'll need about four TVs just to keep up with every game.

I really hope some of the start times are changed a few hours earlier.
That would help a lot. Let us catch a break so we can focus on all of them.

Move one to noontime, the other to 4 PM, the other at 7 PM. Problem solved.

I would go to the Cougar game and not even give it a second thought. Of course, that's easy for me to say. But if I could sell the Texans tickets, problem solved beyond recognition. :)

How much money can you get for Texans tickets?
Struggling 1-3 team. Surely there's a percentage discount?
I want to hear Bob McNair say that ticket prices will increase in 2016. LOL

Astros-Yankees playoff tickets for tonight in the Bronx are going for as high as $5,500. Cheapest ones I can find are $350 a pop. And those are not the best seats. Not that I'm going. I wish this game was in Houston tonight. It would have been had we won that final game on Sunday.

But the Texans would have to offer more than just a ticket to pay good money. A free autograph from a random player. Free drinks, food, some extra incentive. Otherwise reduce all ticket prices by 25 % minimum, to better promote the product on the field. The only team in the NFL who's tickets should be cheaper than ours are the Detroit Lions.

I'm sorry but things will never change unless Bob McNair loses money...
He's making way too much profit for a product that isn't good enough.

Beats me. But on this particular night they'd have to pay me to go.

Great! UH should be on top 25 now right? Hope, this helps coogs to recruit more 4~5 star talents.
Like this 5-star superstar DT Ed Oliver. Beast mode!!!!
I can't wait to see him dominating on the U of H field.

One scout told me he's as good as Vince Wilfork was.
Same size as big Vince was coming out of high school.

The Houston Cougars will be a top program for the next several years if they keep recruiting five-star recruits in the state. Cracking the top 25 right now is just the start.

They've already been recruiting very well in the state of Texas for next year. A lot of those 5-star recruits are finishing their senior year of high school right now. This was just the first big piece that fell into place.

If we can just keep the best local talent in the Houston area U of H will become a National Championship team before you know it. The days of those other schools coming into our house and stealing away our best local talent are over!
