2014 Texans Talk Mock Draft SELECTION

01(65) Houston Texans (TexansFTW) ON THE CLOCK: 10:50am - 2:50pm

02(66) Washington Redskins (kiwitexansfan)
03(67) Oakland Raiders (Rock N Randy)
04(68) Atlanta Falcons (JCTexan)
05(69) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (TexansSeminole)
06(70) Jacksonville Jaguars (The Pencil Neck)

Denver Broncos have a glaring hole in the middle of their linebacking core.

Shayne Skov - LB - Stanford

Could be a little high for Skov, but I think he fills a drastic need for the Broncos, and is still getting back into form. Instincts, instincts, instincts. I didnt think he would make it back to me in the 3rd.

I have him pegged going late second to mid third, so I think it's about right for him. I'd be more comfortable taking him around the 8-13 in the third, but he's a solid choice here and I really doubt he'd make it back to you.

With 3.01 Your Houston Texans select:

Kelcy Quarles - DT (DE here) - South Carolina - SEC

This big brut of a man has all the size and skills required for Romeo's past systems, but more importantly, Romeo's current system for the Houston Texans.

With nothing of note left at that position on the Texans roster, this was a very need based pick that has the talent to pay off in spades.

Kelcy Q is eager to show that he was more than just Clowney's teammate and comes out with a chip on his shoulder to prove it (and JJ Watt on the other side).

Side Note: Listen to nothing that Nolan Nawrocki says (he does his evaluations based on smiles and good vibes).

I don't like the Saints drafting ANOTHER RB. They have way too many needs on the defensive side of the ball getting adjusted to Rob Ryan's D and they already have several RBs on the squad. Ingram, Thomas (just extended), Robinson, etc.

I don't like it either, we should change the Saints pick to something else and let the Browns take Sankey with their next pick.

With 3.01 Your Houston Texans select:

Kelcy Quarles - DT/DE - South Carolina - SEC

I really like this pick. Instantly steps in to start across from Watt at DE. I might be iffy on how Ealy fits at OLB, but I have no reservations about Quarles here. Great pick.

Love this pick.

07(71) Cleveland Browns (Dutchrudder)
08(72) Minnesota Vikings (NCTexan)

The Colts certainly could use some interior OL help. Jackson will be a rock that stops all of the pressure up the middle on Luck as well as improving the running game. Surely your not through strengthing the Colts OL? Who is currently their starting center? LOL

To be continued....

I like that pick. Like the player and it fills a need.

Hate that he's going to the Colts, though.

Thks, I thought BIG Gabe would would be just what Pep Hamilton needed to get his power run game working. Also understand the hate because Gabe would be a very good neutralizer for who ever Romeo lines up at NT.

Great pick for Crennel's D, Romeo would be pleased.

Saints have a ton of needs and RB isn't necessarily one of them. That said, hard for me to hate the pick because Sankey is my #1 rated RB in the draft and he's an instant starter for New Orleans. Looks like a pure BPA selection.

I prefered defense, but i think the Saints offense needs to replace Sproles. Sankey does that and then some IMO. He would add another dimension to a team that has to score on teams like Carolina, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Good pick for the Texans. We need a 3-4 DE to replace Antonio. With Ealy going to OLB, and Mercilus moving to weakside OLB, you could put Reed at ILB and fix a lot of the front 7 problems. Just need a DT to have a great starting 7 across the board.

I feel the same way. And I implore the same. Doing so helped me to realize that although Kony Ealy has sick upside, he might not be a fit for the Texans under Romeo C (even though Walter Football has him listed as a 3-4 DE: http://walterfootball.com/draft2014DE3-4.php).

There is a fine line between commentary and critique and attacking, so take everything in this area with a grain of salt (from me anyway) and feel free to throw it back if you think I do something dumb.

Hey bro, this isn't another of your fantasy scenario threads. Texans didn't draft Clowney 1-1 and take loser Jimmy 2-1. You get that talk out of here.

Speaking of critics. LOL

You're doing a great job.

You must consider Ealy as a LEO? I really like the Quarles pick. Watt/Ealy/Quarles rushing the passer on 3rd downs seems like a major upgrade to me. Give me another Fatty NT to supplement Powe and I'm a very happy man.

I wasn't a big fan of the Ealy pick just because of scheme fit, but I really like the Quarles pick.

I Really wanted that to happen in FA this year because I (hopefully) have other plans for the remaining picks. All we got was Jerrell Powe. We need to do something.

Good morning gentlemen, will have a pick shortly after I pick up the shattered remains of my big board.

With the 66th pick in the 2014 NFL draft the District of Colombia Indigenous Americans select......

Billy Turner - OT - North Dakota State - Missouri Valley

Big on talent, low on experience (against quality opponents) Turner is a high risk high reward pick who helps build a line to protect Griffin.

Turner has lots of experience he's a 4 year starter. Competition may be what you were meaning. This guy reminds me of Clady. I like it!

Thanks to all that are keeping this thing moving. The selection list is up to date.

Via Proxy, Texan4Ever and the San Diego Chargers select:

Jeremiah Attaochu - LB - Georgia Tech

Thanks Blake. The reason I picked him is because he fits a 3-4 scheme, can get to the QB/play the run, and he will fill the void that was created by Shaun Phillips.

I see him projected as a guard because of his size. This is one of those guys where the various grades on him vary pretty wildly.

If the Texans draft Clowney 1-1 and Garappolo 2-1 I hope they trade into the botton of the 2nd and pick Thomas. Thomas is one of my favorite OL in this draft. Strong/long arms/good feet at 6'3 he's a little short for a OT but can play that position. He will be a great OG.

Top 40 IMHO Great pick.

Carolina is pitiful on the OL. I'm giving Thomas a shot at the LT job. If he doesn't win it he will still easily win the LG job, which is where I project him to be a better fit anyway.

Good pick. 3-4 OLB written all over this guy. I think he might be a Texans target if he lasts long enough.

Just a status update.

03(67) Oakland Raiders (Rock N Randy) ON THE CLOCK 1PM (PM SENT)
04(68) Atlanta Falcons (JCTexan) I have his top 2.
05(69) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (TexansSeminole) GET READY
06(70) Jacksonville Jaguars (The Pencil Neck) I have his top 5.

My #28 overall player is still on the board after two rounds. Whoever lands him is getting a future Pro Bowler in the 3rd round.

Loved the Richburg pick for New England. Perfect fit.

And Quarles is a good pick for Crennel's defense here in Houston.

I'm mainly just using cbssports.. The top guy available on theirs is Carl Bradford at #49..

It was a great pick. JA was #1 on the Colts board. Had more ACC college sacks than Peppers and Mario. 2nd coming of Brian Orakpo, another Nigerian wrecking ball.

From the way people are drafting, it looks like a lot of them are using the CBS draft board as their main board. Some are using he NFL.com scores and some are using WalterFootball and probably some other stuff I'm not aware of (if anyone is using something else, let me know, please).

And then there are those who have their own board.

I've got the three that I listed and I sort various ways to try to get a synthesis of the three. Plus, there are specific players I like and don't like that I move up or down depending.

The diversification is what makes these big mocks great. We have 250 players ranked in different ways. Similar to what NFL teams will do. So you will see some picks that you think are perfect, and some that you think are bad matches, and some that are out of left field.

I copied Mel Kiper and Todd McShay. Next pick... Nolan Ryan.

I just pick players that other people PM me in their top 5 lists...

:kitten:

I tend to have different grades than most because I use my own board.

I have a board of 300 prospects that I have been wasting pointless hours on for months. My wife will probably threaten to leave me and then after the draft is over we will magically become a happy couple again. Ah, such is the life of a free agent GM...

I considered Bradford here for Oakland but the Raiders select....
Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska

Raiders need a big long corner and I like SJB game a lot

Wanted to take OL or pass rusher but with no quality OL worthy and addressing Passrusher in FA I shored up the backend with a solid corner in my opinion

(Sorry guys I didn't know I got raiders or would have checked in earlier)

With the 68th pick the Atlanta Falcons select..

Terrence Brooks - FS - Florida State - ACC

Brooks is a former cornerback who was asked to drop down and cover slot receivers demonstrating good balance, fluidity and change of direction for coverage. Brooks looks the part of an NFL free safety and has the potential to be a ball-hawking FS.

ALOT of really good talent left on the board in the 3rd round

Some guys I have in the 2nd and 3rd round went in round 1

Draft is nuts!

I agree my goal is always to get a starter in rounds 1 & 2 with impact rotational guys in the 3rd. I think i will be able to get starters through round 4 if the board falls my way. Lots of talent left.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select:

Loucheiz Purifoy - CB - Florida

L+Damian+Washington+Loucheiz+Purifoy+Missouri+dkSHlZ2Q-n6l.jpg

Long corner who is versatile enough to play the nickel and some safety. He is an excellent blitzer and special teams player. He's inconsistent, especially in his technique, but the Bucs don't need him to start right away (signed Verner and have Jonathan Banks from last year). They can use him at the nickel spot, which is a need of theirs. He's got some concerns that have a lot of people downgrading him, but he has also shown flashes of greatness. High risk/high reward with a chance to contribute right away in the nickel and all four special teams groups.
