2014 Texans Talk Mock Draft SELECTION

Nah, I like Beckham more, he's a lot like Sammy Watkins IMO. I just might have taken another position instead. But it's all good, I'd rather have Bortles and Beckham, than Watkins and Garapolo anyways.

Awww **** just saw this...

Bengals not matching Browns offer sheet for Wr Andrew Hawkins. He's a Brown.

I guess Hawkins can be the #2! lol...

Hawkins is strictly a slot WR, IMO. I would stick with Gordon and Beckham outside with Hawkins in the slot.

Jmo, I have Cooks rated way higher than Beckham. Cooks is a human joy stick. Perfect fit as our Wes Welker.

That IS my source for the ranking. I like it because it is a Big Board rather than a Mock.

CBS has a good big board as well. I use both of those in conjunction with Walter Football's round rankings to get a feel for guys. The problem is, sometimes there's a pretty big difference.

Benjamin makes a fair amount of drops, doesn't have a lot of experience as a WR.

I don't know who you mean by Lawrence.

Bradley Roby has some personal red flags for character.

Davante Adams played for Fresno State, so that might have something to do with him not being rated as high.

Brandin Cooks was picked earlier.

NFL.com has Demarcus Lawrence rated pretty high. WalterFootball and CBS have him rated as a 3-4 round guy.

I will take Texans if not them then assign me a team

I'm good with any team

Damn, I quit following for a few hours and yall tear through like 10 picks. I was just scrolling looking for Bah007 post and didn't notice he was a proxy pick. Give me about 5-8 mins to figure this out please.

Don't Yankey us around, the pick should be Ealy Ford you.

Good call, but now it looks like I am just copying you. I had to see who was already taken and find the best fit. 1st choice was DE and with Ealy available the pick is very clear to me.

I really like Kony Ealy, I think he is a better fit for this system over Ford due to his size and frame. He's got good bend to get around, but more than that he's got a good frame and long arms for tying up lineman. He doesn't have the strength that I would like, but of all the skills that I think can be fixed in the NFL, strength is one I can live with more than most.

Originally I wanted a TE, but w/ the resigning of GG and the loss of the DL the TE position is now on the backburner.

In summation: Kony Ealy - DE - Mizzou - SEC

This guy will do fine switching to a 3-4 DE right? I have no intention of drafting him as an OLB like I was just reading on NFL.com information.

He's a bargain here.

With the 34th pick in the 2014 NFL draft the District of Columbia Indigineous Americans select...

Lamarcus Joyner - Safety - Florida State - Atlantic Coast Conference

Almost didn't take him because of his size, but screw it I love his toughness, instincts, versatility and athleticism.

Worst come to worst he will be a beast in the slot.

This guy will do fine switching to a 3-4 DE right? I have no intention of drafting him as an OLB like I was just reading on NFL.com information.

As a 2 gap DE it will be an interesting transition.

Value is great, fit is a bit ummmmmmm

Not the guy I would of taken.

I would of gone Yankey.

In a 3-4 he is projected to be an OLB.

Ealy starred at defensive end for the Tigers and certainly will be viewed as a quality defensive end from teams operating out of a 4-3 but he's a fluid athlete also capable of making the transition as a standup outside linebacker in the 3-4

I would of been happy with any one of these guys for our second pick.

Brandin Cooks WR Oregon State
Cyrus Kouandjio OT Alabama
Jace Amaro TE Texas Tech
Austin Seferin-Jenkins TE Washington (O)
Morgan Moses OT Virginia
Troy Niklas TE Notre Dame
David Yankey OG Stanford (OT)
Jimmie Ward FS Northern Illinois
*Tiny Richardson OT Tennessee
Jimmy Garoppolo QB Eastern Illinois
Lamarcus Joyner DB Florida State

Are you happy with ASJ and Cyrus's injury status'?

Nice you had Joyner on your list, makes me feel better about my DC pick.

So no one thinks he can play 3-4 DE? I think he's more than capable of it. I definitely see the same thing about OLB in 3-4, but I think it's very possible he makes the switch because of his size. He just needs to add weight, which he'd likely been keeping off to this point because he was playing as a fast edge rusher.

The truth about me real quick, I am obsessed with fantasy football, and thus obsessed with the offensive side of the football. I don't play IDP and care little about defensive players coming out.

I know very much that the Texans need to spend their 2nd and probably their 3rd round picks on defense because of the holes, but I don't always know how easy transition switches are. If you all unanimously tell me that Ealy can't make the switch I will believe it, but for now, I don't. I think he's more than capable of being an AWESOME 3-4 DE.

I think I would rather have him at DE than OLB for the same reason I don't like Clowney as an OLB.

Don't want either of them in coverage.

He looks a fairly lean 275, sure he could pound back the burgers to get to 290 and carry it well.

I thought he could transition to a 3-4 OLB. At DE he would need to add some strength and bulk. He is right in the middle of both for the 3-4. I think he is a 4-3 DE or a 3-4 OLB.

His scouting report in a 3-4 says OLB to me.

STRENGTHS: Ealy's athleticism jumps off the tape. Operating mostly at RDE for the Tigers, Ealy shows good initial quickness off the snap to force right tackles into respecting his speed rush, but saw time all over the defensive line and even as a stand-up linebacker. He has a quick spin move back to the inside to complement his speed and has developing pass-rush technique

WEAKNESSES: Ealy is prone to coming off the snap too high, making himself vulnerable to cut blocks and is a more effective pass rusher than run defender, at this time.

Doesn't scream 3-4 DE to me.

03(35) Cleveland Browns (Dutchrudder) ON THE CLOCK
04(36) Oakland Raiders (MistaRed) GET READY
05(37) Atlanta Falcons (JCTexan) GET READY
06(38) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (TexansSeminole) GET READY

Regardless of precise positional fit, dude is a great bargain at this point.

If we are in the Nickel as much as OB has indicated we might be, he will have his hand on the ground rushing the passer plenty.

I don't really see Ealy as a 3-4 DE. I think that he's strictly a 4-3 DE with the potential to be developed into a 3-4 OLB, same as Clowney.

Man I was really hoping he would fall to my next pick. I see Tyrann Mathieu when I look at him.

Don't fret. Another Tiger named Aldon Smith came in at 263. He is doing just fine at linebacker. You did good. Ealy is a good pick, as long as you are good with him getting his shoot at OLB. :)

Haha my bad man. I actually like Ealy and I'm not saying he can't play in the defense. However, fit is something that needs to be accounted for when drafting a player.

totally agree. if we were to get him he would play OLB. funny because ever since i started watching him i never considered him for the texans because always saw him as a 4-3 DE or at least a one gap 3-4 end.
But a poster asked me a while back whether he could play OLB, i took a further look and i think with a solid training camp, preseason and year of playing OLB he could develop into a real gun at OLB.

Big, athletic, ascending, pass-rush talent with the size, burst and flexibility to pressurize the edge as a right defensive end. Is not a finished product, particularly as a run defender, but should only become more disruptive as his strength, technique and savvy catch up with his natural physical ability. Could also draw looks as a 3-4 rush linebacker. He was tops @ Combine if you include him as a DL & 4th among LB's. Very interesting pick

Somebody will inevitably drop out in rd 3-4. Would you still be interested?

R-N-R was solid in last yrs mock draft.

Well ****, in true Browns-like fashion I misjudged the WR market, and now I see I could have taken a DB at #26 instead of a WR and been just as well off. Furk me :(
