2012 NFL Draft Day 2: Rounds 2-3

LOL.

I'm so pissed right now. We traded down for Posey. FML.

I don't get pissed until I've seen them play.
Ever since the talking heads pumped up Reggie Bush and were dead wrong about him, I've learned to trust my own eyes.

Strengths: Possesses a physically imposing frame with broad shoulders and a wide base ? big body with a strong, thickly built frame. Has good natural strength and raw power with the ability to be a mauler in the run game. Plays with a firm base with a stout anchor, holding his ground at the point of attack. Keeps his pad level low and flashes consistent leverage. Stays balanced and patient in his stance. Has overpowering upper body strength to overwhelm and eliminate defenders from the play ? jolts with his hands and shows a strong initial push. Quick off the snap and moves well for his size. Offers versatility with experience at left tackle and both guard spots. Has very good starting experience as a four-year starter (42 career starts) and was honored as a Second Team All-MAC performer three-years in a row (2009-11). Weaknesses: Has some bad weight on his frame and has added over 60 pounds since he enrolled at Miami (OH) ? something that needs to be monitored. Carries a lot of weight and it shows at times, looking sluggish with heavy feet when trying to cover a lot of ground. Doesn?t have great range and wasn?t asked to do a lot of pulling for the Redhawks. Doesn?t always explode off the snap. Heavy-handed in pass protection with a bad habit of grabbing, which attracts holding penalties. Will allow his body to rise at times and he is caught too high. Needs to improve his awareness and overall vision to pick up extra rushers. Needs to stay disciplined and play smart, cutting down on the penalties and mental lapses. Has an inconsistent mean streak and needs to develop more of a finishing attitude ?

Strengths
Brooks possesses a massive wide body that is not at all sloppy; just a naturally big man. Is more agile than expected, and is effective staying engaged down the line on moving pockets or zone runs. Defensive linemen will actually search for other blockers to engage rather than trying to take on Brooks. He's strong enough to hold back a defensive end with one hand while watch for another rusher with his other hand. Brooks has some ability to hit linebackers at the second level, and then it is tough for those players to shed him even if he's not in perfect position.

I'm sold on this one.

Brooks is a good pickup. I'm surprised they went guard over OT though. Would love to see us trade up for Massie or Thompson. With the way things are going now, Mike Martin could fall to our 4th

We picked a slow ass 6th round projected WR nobody here has even freaking heard of.

Oh really, he ran a 4.5? Oh my God, let's shoot him now!
Posey is a former track star that ran a 4.44 at the combine.

Smith gets Executive of the Year if he gets anything for Jacoby.

Like the Brooks pick. Has played both Guard and Tackle. Interested in what the Texans will start Brooks out at.

anyone know why Brooks wasn't invited to the combine and is it true he ran a 4.99 at 349 lbs? sheesh

So far I'm reading nothing but positive stuff about this guy. Seems like a really good pick at this point.

Brooks...he definitively has a ton of upside. If this guy gets going full speed on the second level he is going to kill somebody. 346 lbs with a 4.98 forty, scary.

Another project guy by Kubiak. Wasn't even invited to the NFL Combine.

This **** better pan out or Wade Phillips is our next HC. Gary is making project picks. Even TJ Yates was a project pick last year. Gary has taken two non-Combine guys and 1 slow-ass brainless 6th round WR with his three picks he's had in '11 and '12.

I cannot fathom why the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants would dare take Reuben Randle if he was bad. They flat out stole him. STOLE. And we get Posey.

I think Kubiak and Smith messed up. They traded down and thought they could still get Randle and they screwed themselves over. They choked and went for Posey. I think they screwed up.

Nice I like this pick. The Posey pick may be good too. Just because most of us didn't mock him doesn't mean he's not going to be good. For a team like our's we're not necessarily looking for day 1 starters but rotation guys. The guys we've picked so far should help out and keep the starters fresh while making valuable contributions. Jacoby Jones being on the team is still an area of discontent among us fans, but I don't believe we're done with getting receivers either via the draft or free agency.

Thats what some of us do. I HAVE watched Posey a lot, and NEVER came away impressed.

I meant during camp and preseason.

You watch college ball more than me, so I'm not dismissing your assessment by the way.

...but if he pushes Jacoby down the depth chart (or off the team) then it's a good pick.

Dude, enough already. You don't know anything.

So far...

(1) Whitney Mercilus - OLB, Illinois

- Great pick. Beast pass rusher that will contribute immediately. Could replace Barwin next year if we don't re-sign him.

Grade: A

(3) DeVier Posey - WR, Ohio State
- Decent pick. Hit a big need here and added a guy who can be a solid #2. Not good value at all though.

Grade: C

(3) Brandon Brooks - OG, Miami (OH.)
Awesome pick. Hit a huge need here and got great value. Wade Smith is getting old and is just average and we're not sure what we have yet in Caldwell.

Grade: A

Overall Grade: B+
- Thought we hit great picks with Mercilus and Brooks. Hit a need with Posey, but I'd rather have seen us take Brandon Thompson or Mike Martin and grab Posey in the 4th. Also could have taken Marvin Jones instead (WR, Cal). Not a bad start, especially with 3 picks in the 4th tomorrow.

He was running a 6.7 40 on the REAL football field from what I saw.

Jacoby was a track star too. So help me understand how we got lightning in a bottle THIS time around.

Gary inherited Andre Johnson, what the flying eff has he ever given us except for slow ass Kevin Walter and bumbling Jacoby Jones? Gary is not instilling confidence in me that he can pick WR talent.

Brandon Thompson DT Clemson
Bobbie Massie OT Mississippi
Senio Kelemete OG Washington
Kirk Cousins QB Michigan State (surprise) Use him for more picks!
Brandon Brooks OG Miami (Oh)
Brandon Washington OG Miami (OT)
Greg Childs WR Arkansas
Alameda Ta'amu DT Washington (X)

Ok one more time. One of these guys please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell yeh!!!

Trust me, this guy will be starting before the year is over.

I think you need to calm down and stop overreacting.

You come on with this "slow as hell" ****, when his times are different. You're embarrassing yourself. Just stop it and get some sleep.

Now I'm just wondering if your trolling this thread.....

Lance Zierlein ‏ @LanceZierlein
Texans take a 343 lb. guard for their zone scheme? Brandon Brooks is the pick. A little surprising

Playing speed is not the same as track speed though. He plays at a rather average speed.

That's also what I said. Watching him jog down the field and hand fight with CBs, it gives me a very bad feeling.

And the guys raking me, saying I don't know anything, just show me YOUR NFL credentials on scouting and drafting.

We traded down and it was a royal screw up to do so. You're going to tell me that the things you see Reuben Randle doing on tape is not as good as Posey? Because we could have had a GREAT WR at our initial spot. But Gary got cute. As usual.
