2012 NFL Draft Day 2: Rounds 2-3

Biography: Three-year starter who finished with 12 receptions/162 yards/2 TDs as a senior. Played in just three games last year after serving a suspension for his participation in the Ohio State tattoo scandal. Junior totals included 53/848/7 after he had 60/828/8 as a sophomore.

Positives: Physically gifted receiver who's flashed big-time ability throughout his career. Solid route runner who quickly gets into breaks and stays low on exit. Sells routes, effectively works back into the clearing of the defense and makes himself an available target. Gets vertical in a crowd and comes down with the ball. Makes a lot of athletic receptions. Effectively uses his frame to shield away defenders and protect the ball. Easily makes downfield, over-the-shoulder catches, looking the pass into his hands. Immediately transitions from making the catch to running after the reception.

Negatives: SLOW AS EFFING HELL. Lacks a quick release off the line into pass routes. Does not show a sense of timing. Not a true downfield threat.

Analysis: Posey was a consistent performer at Ohio State before being sidelined by a suspension most of last year. Though unpolished in many areas, he offers enough upside to develop into a second wideout on a roster.

Projection: 6th

Fixed it for you (bolded above).

Damn you, Gary Kubiak! THIS? We traded down and didn't want Reuben Randle for THIS?

Gary Kubiak is a dumbass. And if Rick Smith's BEST WR choice for Gary's chart of what Gary wants is Posey...then Rick Smith is a dumbass too.

Just go home, dammit. GO! Leave Wade in the war room with some Oreos and his spreadsheet and let him draft BOTH sides for us. Jeezus!

@#$%^&*&Y^T%$#@#$%^&

That trade worked out really good, Randle must not have impressed Rick Smith. We have a lot of options. And the pick is...DeVier Posey, wow that was a real reach. Don't like the pick. We could have picked Massie, Thompson, Childs, or Givens...damn.

I like this scouting profile

Positives -- Big target with breakaway speed, can get down the field in a hurry... Has a nice frame and does a good job of shielding defenders from the football... A constant big play threat... Tough physical receiver who will make the tough catch in traffic and absorb contact... Good body control and adjusts
well to the football in the air, will make tough plays near the sideline... Takes good, short steps off the line of scrimmage... Really is a terrific route runner, does a good job with his cuts and is able to gain separation with his route running... Strong runner with the football, really looks to attack defenders and will try to bull through safeties... Was fairly productive after missing most of the year by catching two touchdowns in his three games this season... Consistent receiver who had 800+ yards in his sophomore and junior seasons... Has the versatility to lineup outside and in the slot... His physical style allows him to be a good run blocker, does a good job of engaging on defenders... A polished wide receiver who should have a quick transition to the pro game... Physical tools are intriguing and should be appealing to teams.
Negatives -- Would like to see him use his hands more, allows too many balls get into his body and will drop some easy throws... His speed is more good than great and he may have trouble creating vertical separation at the NFL level... Very inconsistent, will make the spectacular grab and then drop the easy one... Comes with some character concerns, was a part of the Ohio State scandal and was suspended for most of the 2011 season for selling his championship gear.

Positives: Good quickness off the line. Has size and quickness to get off NFL press. Generally reliable receiver capable of making difficult catches in traffic over the middle or one on one down the sideline. Adjusts to poor throws in any direction. Finds his way through traffic on crossing routes. Comes back to the ball to help his scrambling quarterback. Gives effort as a blocker on run plays. Negatives: Inconsistent high-pointing passes. Allows too many throws into his body when facing the quarterback. Does not own elite speed. Freezes at times when trying to juke defenders in space. Walls off his man as a blocker, allowing them to shed and make the play outside.
CBS sports had him in 5-6th

Walter 5-7

40 Time: 4.50. 10-Yd Split: 1.45.
Vertical: 36.5.
Broad: 10-3.
Arm: 31 3/8. Hand: 9 5/8.
Projected Round (2012): 5-7.
4/24/12: Posey only played in three games this season, catching 12 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. He was suspended to start 2011 and missed 10 games. Posey looked terrible at the Senior Bowl. He wasn't getting open and looked disinterested. Posey performed better at the Combine, but he has a lot to prove off the field to NFL teams.

8/19/11: DeVier Posey is probably regretting not declaring early for the NFL draft after the scandal that has rocked the Ohio State program. With a new quarterback, it will be a challenge for him to improve on his production from 2010. Posey caught 53 passes for 848 yards and seven touchdowns. He was very consistent with his sophomore year production of 60 receptions for 828 yards and eight scores. With size and speed, Posey has a nice skill set to potentially be a second or third receiver in the NFL.

Exactly the sort of guy I expected. Aggravated at what's happened to him due to BS. Wrecked Senior Glory for Tattoos? He's got to be so pissed knowing he lost money and is still talented. It was a weird scandal. I love the pick.

Posey was a really good WR as a Junior at Ohio State. Guy would have been a 2nd round pick if the NCAA didn't screw him over and suspend him for 11 games last year.

I hate OSU, but this kid can play. Should be a very good #2 option for us, as much as I hate to say it.

Dude, I respect your opinion a bunch, but I disagree vehemently.

Posey will not become anything special. He drops catchable balls, does not have break away speed, is average in and out of his cuts, and is a piece of **** human. One of my friends had a class with him, and the guy is a tool.

How do you know Wade didn't make this pick when Kubiak was taking a bathroom break?
:D

We picked a slow ass 6th round projected WR nobody here has even freaking heard of. Rick Smith probably rang in the wrong guy's name.

I am just baffled. BAFFLED. THIS is what we traded down for and THIS is the best WR in the entire draft we could get for our spot?

Eff'd.

I don't hate the pick because the kid can play and will supplant Jacoby, IMO. But it's awful value. He's under the radar because of the suspension and could have been had in the 4th.

I will say, I love Marvin Jones and think he would have been a better option here.

Agree 100% with Jones. That was my pick.

One of the reasons Hitler was considered a dumb*ss was because he insisted that the Me262 (first jet) be hardened so that it could deploy bombs -- therby giving up some of it's speed and maneuverability in dogfights. (would have owned the sky otherwise)

One of the reasons I consider Kubiak a dumb*ss is because he won't take any receivers that he feels cannot sufficiently block. We need people to make plays downfield more than Arian needs help getting an extra yard or two.

I hate Kubiak, honest to God -- too many years of this idiot. The only difference in 2011 was Wade, plain and simple.

TJ

I don't know him so I can't hate the pick... But it feels like a "we're smarter than everyone else" pick, and those very rarely pan out.

But I sure hope he can prove all those experts wrong...

People need to calm down. While I don't like his Ohio state-ness, he has talent even if you refuse to accept it. I am not sure he is the highest rated player though.

Oh well. Another pick coming up.

Really? You've seen several seconds of the guy play and he slow as hell and sucks already? As an Ohio State fan, I've seen the guy play the last few years and I definitely wouldn't say he's slow. He was Ohio State's deep threat and most reliable receiver, the dude was productive catching passes from Terrell Pryor, trust me that says a lot.

As soon as I'm dne looking uop the negative ****,l I'll look for some poisitive. LOL

Abd no, I' m not ****ing sobee, Like it means a great deal.

Well Schaefer says now that we have posey we will trade jacoby so some good some bad. Wtf do they think they are getting in return used toilet paper

4.5 isn't terribly slow, Jerry Rice had slow timed speed in the 40.

Guy is supposed to be a great route runner which is more important.

Of course, considering how almost all of the picks since #67 have been significant "reaches", maybe the Texans' reach for Posey wasn't so bad. In fact, the next three picks after the Texans were all even bigger "reaches" than Posey.

It looks like the picks are starting to return to the expected range, though...

Posey just said on 610 that if he could do his situation all over again with the suspension, he would have done it the same way. Says he helped his mom out. Hmm...

Lets give him some pre-season games before deciding he sucks and that the draft was a failure?

If what I saw on the highlights is his HIGHLIGHTS then he s-u-c-k-s.

Guys don't get graded all the way down to a 6th projection by accident. I look at the few highlights they had, and I can see why. He has ZERO of what I expected the Texans to take. We have that **** already and it's called Kevin Walter. /thread.

And on top of his poor play, he's a POS too? Awesome.

Funny how armchair GMs freak out when they have never heard of the guy.

Lestar Jean has to be pleased. We didn't draft anything that threatens his chances at making the roster. I guarantee you this guy will be a worse version on Jabar Gaffney. This pick was a complete waste.

Plus one. People are blinded by their loyalty to a draft board they made while at home.

Posey played just four games, making just 12 receptions in 2011. As a junior in 2010, he caught 52 balls for 848 yards and seven touchdowns. He was one of many Buckeyes involved in the improper benefits scandal at the university, which hurt his playing time and eventually, his draft stock, but the Texans obviously think enough of his upside that they spent an early 3rd round pick on him.

I'm still trying to be positive

coming from that passing oriented school, that is high praise. Sarcasm thinggy goes here.

All the guys I wanted to pick the last time we were picking are still on the board.

So.

There you go.

Massie? Sanu? Crick? Ta'amu? Toon?

I watched him play quite a bit before last year. The guy rarely creates any separation from CB's. That says a lot when you remember that he was playing against a lot of CB's who weren't all that great in college.
