Not to make it sound better than it is, but Perry was more like trying to squeeze him in to the OLB position. Mercilus is more natural and mobile all along the line, yet with his frame he isn't so much of a push to get him standing up in that OLB position...even better than Brooks Reed, probably.
Perry is great, but I think in Wade's system he would need a little bit more work as an OLB.

I'm mos def OK with DeMarcus Ware-type of guy.
Yeah, looking back at Perry...I can see the stiffness. I just felt like he was more powerful. He has that bull rush going on, but he'll be facing bigger guys in the NFL every Sunday too.
Now that I read you guys' comments, maybe Perry was GB's consolation prize. Could turn out that GB wanted Mercilus but settled for Perry. And if that's the case...why didn't GB trade up to beat us to the punch for Mercilus?

Could turn into murderer's row along that Texans front 7 now. And we even have Bradie James too. And Dobbins comes back. I think we can pencil in Cushing, Reed, Barwin, Mercilus, Dobbins, and James at LB for the final roster. Braman makes it as a special teamer and LB depth again. Sharpton might squeak into the lineup somehow. That's eight total LBs...2-deep at LB.

That us very debatable. Both Mayock and a few others said he could end up being the top defensive player from the 1st round in 3 years. I trust Mayock more than most. For that position I loved pick. It's just like a few people saying Merclius is Ware like yet he is there at 26. Go figure. Each team treasures different things and yet these guys lasted this long. Crap shoot

2. New England Patriots: Too often in past years, the Patriots got a little too cute. They'd trade a choice for a future first-rounder. They'd trade back and acquire more draft choices than they had roster spots for rookies. On Thursday, Bill Belichick made two wise trades, and finally got a pass-rusher (Chandler Jones from Syracuse) and a quality inside linebacker (Dont'a Hightower of Alabama). Those were significant and telling moves. It shows the Patriots might be moving back into a 3-4 defense, but now they can do it with two young linebackers who can rush. Jones is quick from the outside. Hightower can rush from the inside. The Patriots have only two remaining draft choices, but the two trades cost them only two fourth-round picks.

Right? I did not see the Texans taking Hightower. I guess they also jumped Bengals, Packers, Vikings, 49ers. And we can assume the Texans had no interest in trading down to 31 and losing a guy named Mercilus.
