2011 TexansTalk Member Mock Draft (FULL)

Ok, as per his PM for the last round the Oakland Raiders select Kris O'Dowd, OL, USC.

Was just about to make a post, although with a bit more menacing picture :D.

I'm a little skeptical with the guy due to durability concerns (he's dislocated his knee a few times), but when he's healthy he's pretty damn good...especially when compared to the players the Raiders currently have under center.
 
The Jaguars select: Robert Sands, S, West Virgina

Jags need alot of secondary help, but in previous rounds the value wasnt there for me. Sands is a little tall which will slow his change of direction, but his height will help him close up passing lanes at the FS position. A 6-4, 217 hard hitter.

Shockey 1st round 2002

Visanthe Shiancoe 3rd of 2003

Kevin Boss 5th in 2007

Travis Beckum 3rd in 2009


3 out of 4 have been great so far. Why not another? Stocker works for me.

Niles Paul, WR, Nebraska - The Chiefs really struggled at the position towards the end of the season and even went to the extreme of signing Curtis to help out. Paul has the size and speed of a top NFL WR. He'll need to work on his hands in order to become a solid starter.

Because you wanted him or for the same reason as me?

I screamed NOOOOOOOOO because I sincerely think that Paul will achieve nothing in his NFL career. He looks and times as an NFL receiver but in the whole season of watching Nebraska never once did I go WOW over a Paul play or think now if we can only get the ball to Paul here.

I think he was the fourth best pass catching option on the Huskers last year after Cotton, Kinnie and Burkehead.

I wanted him. Sure he is a pretty big gamble, but the Ravens are in a decent spot and can afford a pick on a boom or bust guy here. He has the size and athleticism to be an upper tier (not top 10 or anything) receiver. That said, I trust your evals of Nebraska players, so I guess I lucked out.

Your right, he has the physical attributes to be a player and the Ravens are in a good spot so I can understand the rationale.

As for my evaluation skills, I can tell if a rugby league player is for real or not in a flash and be pretty spot on, but football is still something I can't claim to have mastered. In saying that though, offensive skill positions are fairly easy imo.

Is a better football player than athlete with good on the field smarts and good producton. An attempt to replace Bob Sanders.

Interesting pick up.

Safety is one NFL position I worry about non-athletes.

They are at risk of getting exposed where other positions have less space to protect.
 
The Eagles select Mark Herzlich OLB Boston College.
A risk due to health, but was at one time a first round talent. The Eagles need an OLB and Mark could turn out to be a very good one.

Kendric Burney, CB, North Carolina
Chris Hairston, OT, Clemson (Has this guy already been picked?)
Shareece Wright, CB, USC
Derek Newton, OT, Arkansas State

The highest rated DE's I've got left are
1. Pernell McPhee, DE Mississippi State
2. Bruce Miller, DE/OLB, Central Florida
3. Thomas Keiser, DE/OLB, Stanford

But those guys aren't as highly ranked as the CBs and OTs on my board.

With the Jets losing either Santonio Holmes or Braylon Edwards, they are in need of a WR. So the Jets select WR from LSU Terrence Toliver He is huge at 6-4 and 212 lbs. His size is a good fit for Sanchez's tendency to overthrow.

With their forth round pick the Chicago Bears choose Chris Hairston, OT - Clemson.

Has football smarts and is a leader. Needs a good SC program to redistribute weight and learn to bend his knees but should be productive at the the next level.

Well we knocked out four rounds in about three weeks, right?

I think we can get the last three rounds in time.

I hope we go all 7. As the draft boards get smaller and smaller, I like seeing who gets taken in these late rounds.

just realize supplemental picks are not included, so a lot of really good top to bottom drafts might be a little thinner than expected in real thing. Plus it could affect how a team might attack their board with sandwich picks, hence more likely to address need for instance & pull trigger sooner if they have to address position, for example OLB.....
