2009 Member Mock (Second) Rounds 4-7

Yeah, let's do it.

Oakland's take so far:

RAJI - DT
BRITT - WR
CALDWELL - C

CB maybe since they released Hall and maybe S since they cut Wilson (who had a good year with them). However, I think I remember reading somewhere that they were changing schemes but don't quote me on that.

I think OT would be good here if there are any left that run a zone-blocking scheme.

I don't know if they've given up on Michael Huff yet, so maybe a safety like Derek Pueges.

They also need a SLB according to the stuff I'm reading.

Is SS Hamlin fast enough for Big Gay Al?

I could see them drafting an OLB, but only with blazing speed of course.

Personally, unless I hear something otherwise - my vote is for a SLB or SS. They have two excellent LBs in Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard, but their SLB is lacking.

Zack Follett? He's a local kid, hard hitter, super-aggressive. Might be a good fit.

Like Shaft said - SS might be a good pick.

Chip Vaughn is on the board, and the Raiders did cut their starter from last year, Gibril Wilson.

Hamlinhas decent speed but is a playmaker which might please Al. However, I feel they could also use a WR to give Russell another target to pass to.

I think their biggest need at this point is SAM and I think Follett is the guy.

They took a WR in the second round.

Like the Lions, they have too many needs to jump into the same position twice.

Hamlin looks like a good pick to me.

Myself and Pencil Neck like Follett, but it looks like we have 3+ votes for Hamlin.

I think the rule was made that we needed three votes, so Hamlin is the guy.

Objections?

Shaft, Bah, and Texan4ever voted Hamlin.

Myself and PNeck voted Follett.

JC - which do you like? You can tie it up or put Hamlin over the top, then we'll just need one for a tiebreaker.

Hamlin. I thought he would have been an early third round pick.

With the 105th pick in the draft, the Green Bay Packers select:

Andre Brown, RB, NC State

To me, it's insanity that Brown is still on the board at this point.

The Packers sank money into Ryan Grant, but he kind of went bust in 2008, and he's FAR from locked in as their back of the future. Backup Brandon Jackson is capable - and a lot of people think he should get a shot to start ahead of Grant in 2009 - but there's too much uncertainty around this group to go with the status quo, and a free agent signing won't make enough of a difference.

I seriously considered FS Derek Pegues here for safety depth - but Andre Brown is by FAR the best player on my board right now, and I think he could really strengthen a questionable position for GB. I guess you could say I chose value over need - but with Ryan Grant at the top of the depth chart, I don't think it's far fetched to say that they might spend a 4th rounder on a RB.

The Buffalo Bills select: TE Cornelius Ingram, Florida

Got injured in his senior campaign but has alot of ability and could be a great TE in a couple years.

Well, Andre Brown has had injury problems his whole football career. Sometimes it's hard to justify taking an injury riddled player early.

The 4th round is generally when teams go after guys like Andre Brown and Cornelius Ingram.

Was it Metallica? I heard they were playing a surprise show.

I know I am up, and I will try to make pick before crashing (just got home). I am exhausted from working and having one of the major bosses cover my ass so I could see some shows while being paid. He and my brother ride together when he is in town, between his home in LA and Bastrop. Archangel, Silversun Pickups and yes I saw Metallica which I was pissed about. Right after the sound manager for the shows I was working got me into it, his buddy said he could get me in to Jane's Addiction. I missed out on the F'n Playboy party. So I get to go backstage with the sound guys for Metallica and while for some that sounds like good news, I miss the Bunnies.

I heard Metalllica was awesome, and knew I would be sorry for missing it.

The C3/Playboy Party was ok. It was great in that it was the best set up they have ever had for entry, and the best stage set up they have had for a show at their party. Jane's was awesome, but I felt like I was at a concert more than at a party. They did not play Jane Say's, which chaps my hide a bit.

The two highlights of my weekend were Crystal Method playing between sets at the Spin Party and going to see a live taping for Ben Harper at the ACL studio.

Ben Harper player where I was working and got to here only two songs and while it was pretty good, I know it could have been better which I am sure the taping was. Even the sound guys say that while they do what they can it is hard to run a band out with 20 min prep time and have it perfect.

With only 3 safeties on the roster, I'd have a hard time passing on Chip Vaughn here. I know we already have two SS's on the roster in Ferguson and Barber, but I think he's a player.

That coupled with Shaft's earlier pick of Delmas would give us a solid safety corps, and very possibly our safeties of the future - Delmas & Vaughn.

I wouldn't speak against James Davis, though.

My guy is there but I am a little confused right now. Why is everyone so deadset on taking a back right now? Are we that faithful to Brisiel, and do we think that our dt situation is that great?

I see your point with Chip Vaughn, I mean even Sherrod Martin is out there, but there might be more pressing needs.

Interesting guys on the board.

At RB: James Davis, Glen Coffee, Cedric Peerman, Javon Ringer.

At SS: Emanual Cook, Chip Vaughn.

At DT: Terrence Taylor.

I'd go James Davis or Emanual Cook. We really need a RB though.

It might be a round early - but Sammie Lee Hill is still on the board at DT. He'd be the big, wide NT that everyone wants, and he apparently interviewed VERY well.

Of course, he's got SSS (Small School Syndrome), however - he was often DOMINANT, which is good if you you have SSS. I mean, at least if you dominate it makes teams think you could play on a higher level.

With Jennings and Andre Brown off the board - I personally would be just fine if you didn't go RB until later. Gartrell Johnson will be there next round probably.

Pick 118 will be great if my player slides. But wow, at 108 I felt like a wealth of good players were available.

As far as the safety position is concerned I belive that we will go with 5 and with the drafting of Delmas and the resigning of Fergerson that gives us 5. I would look at corner before another safety. As far as Brisel I think he got better as the year progressed I feel that we will take an interior lineman at some point just not at 108. This is the spot where the Texans normally gambles on a small school prospect.

True. I have always liked taylor and was glad to pick him.

I understand the Terrence Taylor selection, but I also feel like running back is a more pressing need. However, there will probably still be good RB prospects in the 5th.

I look at this pick like this - you have to get someone who at least has a chance to start.

So far with three picks, you've only got one starter. Taylor MIGHT replace Travis Johnson, but Taylor is a classic underachiever. Still, I like that pick better than a RB at this spot. I've actually taken Taylor in a couple of seven-round Texans mocks, so I'm cool with it. I just think he would have still been on the board with your next pick. Not a sure thing though, so I don't have much of a problem with this.

I dont like Taylor he's an undrerachiever (Watson, Branch). The texans like to take chances on small school players in the 3rd or 4th rds. I hope they take S.L.Hill or C. Baker.

I would have had a hard time passing on Vaughn. Draft Delmas & Vaughn & you dont have to worry about the S position for the next 10 years. These are the S the Texans were said to be looking at during the all-star games. This would be a great luxury to have. IMO

I cant belive how many good CB's are left @ 118 I would take one if the one I wanted was available.
