2007 Member Mock Draft

New year's thing is very big in Japan. Like my case, we get off from Dec.28 through Jan.8. That's a long holiday. Maybe he is taking a trip to somewhere.

AR if you stick around, maybe Kastofsna will let you make one of the picks for one of the participants that can't make the 12 hour rule -

Hey do I see Wharton's name on the "currently active users list"? Is a pick coming?

hey kast...... I pm'd you my pick, can you go ahead and throw it in there when the time comes & I'm on the clock??

If he's taken, I'll send you another pick, but if no-one gets him, that's the guy I want there.

Here’s the 411 on the Titans. Their offense runs in the middle of the pack for the NFL, but they are second to last in total defense. Rushing is 144 YPG, 3rd from last and passing is dead last at 369.7 YPG.

So I’m going defense. The defense is 4th from the bottom in sacks with 26 but near the middle of the pack on pass defenses (78) and interceptions (17). This tells me that opponent QBs has a large amount of time to throw the ball and, while the defensive backfield is at least average, they can’t hold out forever. What’s the old adage, give any QB enough time and he will pick you apart.

Basically, the Titans are giving up too many yards on the ground and not getting any pressure on the QB. The linebackers are made up of David Thorton (Sam), Peter Sermon (Mike) and Keith Bullock (Willie). Thorton and Bullock are very good linebackers, while Sermon is about average and can hold his own. I don’t see a glaring weakness here. You may want pick up a middle linebacker to challenge Sermon but it’s not required since the Titans took Stephen Tulloch last year and are very high on him.

The front line is a different story. The only true starter here is DLE Kyle Bosch who led the team with 6.5 sacks and led the front line with 75 tackles. The rest of the line is made of DRE Travis Laboy (31 tackles & 3.5 sacks), Robaire Smith (44 tackles & 0.5 sacks), and Albert "Stomper" Haynesworth (30 tackles & 2 sacks).

The Titans could also use a Wide Receiver and OLineman but since 3 WR have been picked already and I'm not real fond of linemen in the 1st round, I’ll stick to defensive line. The DT I like are gone so I’d pick either LaMarr Woodley DE/OLB 6'2 274 Michigan (Lombardi Award) if available, then Moss Quentin Moses DE 6'5 257 Georgia.

LaMarr Woodley DE/OLB 6'2 274 Michigan

He is a rock solid 270lbs and has the toughness and strength to play on the line, but the instincts and athleticism to play off the line. He could be a big time pass rusher in the NFL if given the freedom to attack the quarterback. But he also shows the ability to stuff the run and make plays in space.
Granted, in some folks eyes, I am taking a risk but considering Jason Taylor is only 255 lbs, at 274 lbs, LaMarr should be more then large enough to play DE in the 4-3.

Plus, personally, I don't put allot of stock in the hoopla about particular players fitting different types of systems. Good players are good players whether it’s the 3-4 or the 4-3. Junior Seau went for the 3-4 in San Deigo (at least I think it was the 3-4, it’s been so long) to the 4-3 in Miami, and then back to the 3-4 in New England without missing a beat. Of course, I am using a HoF LB as an example. On the other side, Babin couldn’t play either OLB in the 3-4 nor can he play DE in the 4-3.

Dwight Freeney weighs in under 270lbs....... so who knows??

Who cares about the cowboys??

Whats important is my superbowl pick is still alive... Seahawks/Ravens.

Now get your pick on K.D

With the 20th pick of 2007 NFL Draft, the NY Giants select RB Kenny Irons from Auburn University.

Everyone knows Barber is going to retire, so this pick should give them a decent back to go along with the big back (forgot his name). Irons probably could flourish behind the Giants o-line, they are a pretty good run team, when they are focused and opening holes for the RB.

Next pick it's on you.

Dallas selects Quentin Moses DE Georgia

Dallas needs help on defense, but I think drafting in the secondary would be a reach at this point based on how many safeties and cornerbacks have been taken.

We picked HB Blades to upgrade our LB position which was a hodge podge of available LB FAs...... picked up in a hurry to start the season. HB Blades should provide immediate impact and become the new face of our defense, similar to what Demeco provided for the Texans in '07

HB Blades
HB Blades is a force up and down the line of scrimmage. Very few players play with as much intensity and aggression. He is quick to diagnose the run and immediately fills a lane, looking to hit someone. Despite his lack of size, he is very physical and can take on blockers and still make the tackle. Blades is an excellent interior run stuffer, but has the speed to run plays down on the outside. His experience inside and out for the Panthers will only help him earn early playing time in the NFL. Blades is a leader, and has every intangible you want in a linebacker.

Next time we have a mock draft can we at least require that participants live in the WESTERN HEMISPHERE?

Or

How about the same amount of waiting time for everyone...

Or

Even close to the same waiting time for everyone....

Or

Not set rules and just flat out say "I'm going to pick for you when I feel like it"

:)

With the 26th pick the New York Jets select Adam Carriker

Adam Carriker
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 295lbs
Birthdate: May 6, 1984
Hometown: Hastings, Nebraska

Adam Carriker is an interesting blend of talent. He has excellent size and strength, but has the athleticism to go along with it. He is already bigger than a lot of NFL defensive ends, and has the strength to push tackles out of his way. He has the ability to bull rush lineman, and can also hold his ground at the point of attack. Carriker has been a productive pass rusher in college, and knows how to get to the quarterback. He also has good straightline speed for a player his size.

http://www.footballsfuture.com/2007/prospects/adam_carriker.html

The Jets really need some help on the defensive line, they have major struggles with stopping the run.

Carricker is an upgrade over Bobby Hamilton on one end and provides a young compliment to Shaun Ellis.

Carricker is an ideal fit as a 3-4 end with his size and strength.

Also considered Jamaal Anderson here given all the man love flying around here for him but didn't fit the system so well.
