QB-set
RB-set
OL-possible but you dont draft a guard/center this high
WR-set but a possible if we cant get a decent 3rd via free agency
TE-set
DT-set but depth needs help
DE-set but depth needs help
OLB-set
ILB-maybe not a big need
CB-set
S-set
Our starters are decent on O but on D we can use depth mainly no glaring needs ATM
If we are that high in the draft than absolutley. A perfect replacement for an ageing Aaron Glenn. A year or two in the nickel back spot where he plays very well at to begin with and he will be ready to go a left corner.DC_ROCK said:CB of Miami (FL) Antrel Rolle.
Chance_C said:I don't know about the TE position, safety spots, and ILB positions being set. They may be set for now but they are upgradeable, which IMO relates to not being "set".
TE: Bruener is good, but he's getting older, and if Joppru ever recovers then we could be set. Note the if in relation to Joppru.
Safety: A young gun for depth and future replacement is needed. I love Eric Brown in run support, but as we saw Sunday, his coverage skills leaves a little to be desired. He will knock the snot out of you, and I absolutely love that about him.
ILB: Foreman is good, but he is upgradeable.
I would think we would go D-line next year. It is great when you have depth and quality there because that position wears down faster than any other on the team. The Patriots have spent 1st rounders on that position over the last few years and it has worked.

You dont use a first on a replacement because a guy is old unless you know he wont be with you

Why would we select a QB??? We spent a 3rd round pick on Ragone so he isnt going anywhere and BJ Symons will be back next year and will be the 3rd string QB if Banks leaves. And Banks wants a starting job, where is he going to get one??? San Fran is the only one I can think of. Miami maybe???texansfan88 said:qb: set, but look for the texans to possibly take a shot at James Killian out of Tulsa, Jon Buetjer out of Illinois, or Danny Wimprine out of Memphis in the 5th round
Why would the go with a WR. They have star in AJ. We spent a 2nd round pick on Gaff and he can make plays if they throw him the ball. And the coaching staff loves Armstrong. And dont forget that Palmer said that Starling has more untapped potential on the team, including AJ. And what if Bradford stays???texansfan88 said:wr: this is where i think we'll go in the 1st round. lots of good receivers again with Michigan Braylon Edwards, Mike Williams, Miami (OH) Martin Nance, Cal's Geoff McArhtur and West Virginias Chris Henry. I feel that they'll go with Nance just because he is a big playmaker
Why not??? We have a one demensional TE in Billy Miller, a 31 year old one in Bruener and a TE in his second year who hasnt played a down???texansfan88 said:te: nope
I dont see us going tackle so high. We just signed Wade to a big deal and the coaching staff is giving Wand the starting job to protect Carr's blindside so they much have a lot of faith in him...texansfan88 said:tackle: maybe, if they go 2nd round here, go Rob Pettiti at Pitt
I think this depends on when McKinney is going to be a FA. If he has only one more year after this year, they might take one high to groom for a year and not throw him into the fire. And then they dont have to worry about McKinney leaving after next year without a center ready to replace him...texansfan88 said:center: no
Glenn Earl is the Strong Saftey. He would have been of been a 2nd round pick if not for his injury so I dont see us taking a saftey early...Panther5407 said:Getting Rolle out of Miami would be great but I would have to say a Strong Saftey or a left guard. I also like Jackson Apple out of A&M because he is a warrior. But, a dominate saftey or lineman (meaning right guard) would be a great pick up in the draft. By the way, could Rolle play saftey, he definently has the size.

The only trades I've seen for a 1st round pick in your scenario is for a 2nd round pick that year and a 1st rounder the following year. A 3rd round pick is too low to make that deal.Mistril48 said:I hope the Texans trade their 1st round pick for (at least) a 3rd in 2005 and a 1st in 2006...The trade would still give them four first day picks and position them with two first round picks in 2006 when the players who they drafted in 2002 will generally have four accrued years of service and be free agents.
I sort of agree. That's why I said 'at least'. If our first rounder was late enough (unlikely) and the third early enough, a 3rd would be reasonable.Lucky said:The only trades I've seen for a 1st round pick in your scenario is for a 2nd round pick that year and a 1st rounder the following year. We have a lot of guys we are developing now and would add 4 2nd and 3rd rounders in 2005. When we start losing some 4 yr accured guys, or other starters, we could replace some with developed players off the depth chart and look for a top ten draft pick to be an immediate starter/impact player, by trading our two first round picks to move up.Lucky said:And Im not seeing your argument. Wouldn't you be asking a rookie to replace a vet in '06? Why not draft the guy in '05, and teach him the system for a year? Unless the Texans wind up with another top 10 pick (I can't believe I even said that), I would prefer rookies not to get a free ride to the starting lineup.
