2:1 - Who are we taking?

OB has had 3 days to see Derek Newton live "in action" now,

Have to think he's pounding the table for a RT.

Jimmy Garoppolo!

I'm gonna have fun watching all the redasses purposely misspelling his last name because he wasn't the one they wanted. :)

I wouldn't be against a trade down and taking Van Noy or Tuitt or an RT. OR Jace Amaro.

Although I'd love to get a big man in the middle, the point about the NT being a 2 down player is a very good one.

I don't want a QB at this point and I don't want a RB or WR here, either.

Morgan Moses or Jernigan if it's a position player. Both solidify real positions of need.

I like the quick release of Jimmy Garoppolo, so I would take a flyer on him if they want to try to go QB. He could develop into a decent to good starter.

It really bit that Minn came up and took Bridgewater. He's not without flaws, but to me he is the only guy that in 3 years from now I say without much hesitation he'll be at least a solid starter. Getting Clowney AND Bridgewater would have been a dream haul for me.

Carr, Bortles and Manziel have high upsides and could just as easily bust. I'll support the Carr pick if that's what it is because he does have talent, but his inability to work under pressure is very concerning. It could be improved....or not.

Jimmy Garoppolo on down for me are all developmental guys that you might win with or they might never make it past backup material. But I think he is the best left imo.

We'll see I spose. Trade down would be ideal imo.

NT is only a two down player if they aren't good enough or if they are tool old to play on passing downs.

Wilfork isn't a two down player. I think Nix can be that type of player. He's certainly talented enough.

But with his injuries and CnD's take, I think I'd pass and grab a big body with some talent later in the draft. I think Nix is very talented though, so I'm not going to scream in agony if we pick him.

I'm not big on Tuitt or Hageman. IMO neither play to their size and aren't all that strong at the point of attack.

There are some decent D-linemen that can probably be had a little bit later in this draft that CAN be that two down player. I like Justin Ellis as a big body for the line...McCullers is also a guy that with some work could be a stout NT for 1st and 2nd downs.

I'm not big on RT being taken here either.

I want either a DB or LB here. But again, I'm not going to be upset with another position being taken...Most importantly I want a good player.

This is kinda where I'm at right now. I'm leaning OL.

I am on record as wanting Nix, but I'd be happy with damn near any position, TBH. We haven't had a NT around here in a decade, but last year, Newton was the worst starter on the field, and probably the worst starting OL in the NFL. There were plays where a traffic cone would have offered more resistance. He actually got out of the way of rushers a couple times. I can't stand that guy.

Jimmy Garoppolo!

I'd be perfectly happy with him, but I can't spell his name even if I do like him.

Is an NT a) going to see the field enough (70% nickel/even fronts per B.O.B) and b) when we know the RAC wants a big fat guy (to be blunt) when the NT will be on the field to justify drafting Nix at 33?

Give me a RT, a CB, an ILB or the QB and with all of the needs trading down here makes even more sense than trading down from 1. Unless there is somebody the front office loves as at RT, because the tackles got picked over last night.

A big athletic 340 lb pound nose guard are rare and highly valued . Poe , Raji , Gnata , Wolfork , and Casey Hampton were all 1st round picks .

Actually, more nickel fronts means you want that NT to be a stud. You're taking a LB off the field, so you really want your front to be stout. And any guy that can divert some of the offense's energy away from our LBs and/or Watt/Clowney is a welcome addition, in my book.

NT has been a need for years. It's time to solve this problem or at least take a legitimate shot at it.

I agree. I just don't think Nix is at that level. Or close to it. Actually, I think he tries to run around blocks too much for a 2 gap NT.

Just take Nix. Might as well load up the D and ensure that it is scary as Hell. Far as QBs, I am done with this draft class. I'm not looking for somebody to possibly help us win 6 games this year instead of 4. I was looking for a franchise QB and it is too late for that. At this point, I don't even care how many games we win this year. We are waiting for a better QB class, ie, sitting around with our thumbs up or butts.

There was never a franchise QB in this class. Drafting manure early doesn't make them a franchise player.

We need to find our Finch

Where are all the people that said there is absolutely no way Van Noy would be available at 33? .

I thought about that yesterday as well...

People always spouting off about who definitely won't be available where...

Just goes in one ear and quickly out the other...

I'd like to know why everyone thinks all the remaining QBs will still be available in the 3rd round.

Louis Nix is the next Casey Hampton and Vince Wilfork. He's going to be an all pro nose tackle in this league for a long time. Are you telling me the Texans will pass on him because of ridiculous injury concerns? He will be 100 % by training camp. He's a big boy and a flat out beast.

anyone wanting carr just hasnt been paying attention, especially those in houston. dude has a great arm, and that's it. everything else is questionable at best. he's got poor footwork, the mechanics leave at times, and zero pocket presence. sound familiar? he's learned his film study from david, his dad and david will be at practice and contradicting what the coaches tell him. he's already married with kid(s?), and it's a safe bet that he wont put in the work.

my pick is morgan moses. i mean what a great name, and dude's got an epic beard - the man looks like a "morgan moses". oh, and he can play day 1 at right tackle, which i guess is important to some people.

Would love to add Tuitt here.

Would not complain one bit. Nix/Tuitt are the 2 guys I would be really happy with. Lee would be a great value pick too. For me it would come down to those 3 with the edge given to Tuitt and Nix considering that we don't have any starting caliber players at those positions who fit the scheme. We need a true NT and a big DE.

on NFL netwerk it was reported that OB just said unless someone blows us away we are sticking to our board. He said DL is something we have to look at. If thats the case I would assume its one of these guys.

Louis Nix DT Notre Dame
Stephon Tuitt DE Notre Dame
Ra'Shede Hageman DT Minnesota

I hope its Nix if true.

Also could see a dark horses

DaQuan Jones DT Penn State
Ego Ferguson DT LSU

If it's a QB here, it better be Carr. PR ****storm notwithstanding, he's the best passer left in the draft.

I would advise waiting. Better players available and Mettenberger/Murray should be around later.

I like Nix ability , worry about his health ... that has to be why he's still on the board cause he is a one man wrecking crew inside.

I just don't like Hageman's build for the position , just too tall to get leverage. Think he may be better suited to a 34 DE than NT/DT. Some draft sites have Tuitt listed as a DT as well , but he like Hageman is 6'6" .... even if they play with proper pad level , interior blockers are going to be able to get under them and move them.

I like both .... but as ends , not DT's. Nix is built for the 34 nose position ....

(They still need a DE or two , Watt and Crick being the only two with NFL experience on the roster)

Tough call for me between Nix , Su'a-Filo & Tuitt. There are several OT's in the 3rd I think will be available (Richardson , Mewhort , Moses).

What is the matter with some of you people?

Jimmy Garoppolo would be the PERFECT selection at 2.1. Anyone who thinks that's just a rumor, better get out your crying towels.

Nix would be great, but a 2 down player with injury histories.

Tuitt would be just as great without those 2 problems.

Moses would be biblical. Finally a real RT here. I´d be ecstatic.

Garoppolo would be - underwhelming, but ok. He needs to learn how to deal with pressure. But I´d prefer him to Carr.

Lots of great players left. I´d trade down. Maybe we can pick up another 2nd. Maybe even a next years first.

I want Nix because an honest to God legit tackle in the middle of the DL would help this defense so damn much.

LOL, if that's who they pick, then that means they must really want him.

That being that, I'll support him or anyone else they pick. I'm being easy on the new regime this year. I think the only one I'd have a problem with is Carr, and it's admittedly not because of what I think of him as a QB. But even that I could get over if he performs.

Even if I think a pick is awful, he's a Texan now, and I'll support him.
I'm just pessimistic and think we're just going to have more years of the same.

Been a Nix fan for 2 years but love Tuitt also. ESPN reported this morning that SF trade conditional 2015 pick for WR Steve Johnson and wants to move up. They have two 2s and three 3s. As deep as draft is that could be way to go. I would not focus much on points but rather players. Decent Nose exist in 3rd and 4th rounds. Maybe a trade with Oakland and then trade that with 49ers.

I hope not. I'm counting on the new BoB to be what he's cracked up to be, and our new DC as well. I'm counting on finally having a coaching staff that can actually, you know, coach.

We haven't had a whole lot of that in the Texans history and I'm very hopeful we see some change this season.

Agree both Tuitt and Hageman are both DE's on our D. I see Nix as a better fit in Phillips style 3/4 but think he would be just fine in any front.

The only reason I would pass on Nix is I believe there is some Quality NT's that will be available later. I would love him at 2.1.

Would also love Cyrus or Moses there also. If we could get one of those guys at 3.1 I'll be doing back flips. Just a few more minutes and we will see. :headbang:
