In my opinion, an argument can be made that they should have kept Culley for one more year.
I can't see any reason to justify keeping Lovie after the way the team performed under his leadership.
And circling back, Lovie's poor performance is the only reason an argument could be made that Culley should have been retained.

The Texans organization makes bad decision making an art form. It's why I keep insisting that the only way the Texans ever have a real winner is by complete accident.

I kinda wonder David and Lovie knew they weren't long term. Hell they got paid.
Astros in their rebuild went through 4 managers (Mills,DeFrancesco, porter and lawless)in 3 years that they lost 100 games
also before they cleared the salary cap and got to an actual move forward with picks and money. Then brought a long term vision

So hopefuly the Texans find their version of AJ Hinch

I dont see why the media is making such a big deal about this being Caserio's 3rd hire. It was supposed to be Culley for 2 yrs of the rebuild and then hire the HC Caserio really wanted. Culley made it through one yr and then Cal decided to bring in Lovie over Caserio's recommendation to hire Gannon. It should be no big deal, but for some reason the media is making it a big deal.

Good to see you too, Thorn. I been around, just lurking until this team does something worth talking about.. The O'Brien years made me regret talking so bad about Kubiak.
Missed you man

Too bad they did away with the NSZ.

Hope you hang around.

I'm afraid to say... This is one the Mainstream Media has right.... The coaches who've been fired with only a single year of service have the same thing in common (I don't accuse anyone of the 'R' word anymore, although I take mental note of its presence.) They've kept worse coaches on for too long, and even gave one the powers of general manager. The Houston Astros had the same problem this organization had, once. Once the owner fired himself, and the great Jim Crane bought the team, the Astros struggle to keep themselves out of the League Championship Series every year. Two World Series in four years is a hell of an accomplishment. When the Texans stop pissing off their legends (Andre Johnson,) and pushing away their franchise QB's (Deshaun Watson,) maybe their best talent can be maintained at a fair price (as Deandre Hopkins was requesting.) I watch this Texans dumpster fire, but I can't root for it.. We need the McNair family to entrust the team to a group of owners committed to winning.
The Texans didn’t hold a gun to Watson head and tell him to do the crap he was doing off the field. They actually gave him an top dollar extension in which he was very happy to sign. He’s the one that quit on this team.

The Texans pushed away Watson? When?

Was it like when the 25+ women pushed away Watson and his junk and said no?

Or was it when he endorsed OB and Easterby and McNair for signing him to a contract that less than 5 months he wanted out of?

Or was it when they traded the future for a LT for him?

Was it when he got his feelings hurt that he didn’t get consulted for the GM position when he left on vacation on a yacht in Mexico instead of being with the team?

Or was it when the Texans got him a private room at the Houstonian for his massages?

Please enlighten me of when the Texans pushed him away.

They traded away Duane Brown, gave up the farm for Laremy Tunsil in an attempt to make up for it, then traded away Deandre Hopkins...
The Texans had all those women sign non-disclosure agreements. There was no scandal until IMMEDIATELY AFTER Watson demanded to be traded..

If the Steelers can protect Roethlisberger, then you know the Texans can attempt to ruin Deshaun Watson's career in order to lower the price of his trade.

Yet Watson signed a huge contract after all of those trades

Maybe its the melatonin and other sleep time stuff kicking in but......

Why would the Texans want to lower the price of his trade?

Considering they would benefit from his price being high.......

If they did that to drive down his trade price..... how many more first rounds could we have had if they didn't Titanic his trade value?

That's basically how I felt after reading that sentence he posted..

If Watson was ever victimized or ramrodded due to race or hell.. any reason at all. Lord I hope I'm victimized and ramrodded too.. 🙄

The Steelers protected Rothlesberger? Didn’t his rape come to light and he have to serve a suspension? Where was the protection? The Steelers couldn’t and didn’t.

The Texans didn’t have those women sign the NDAs. The Texans gave Watson a form and Watson had all those massage therapists sign the form.

The scandal was already beginning in November of 2020 prior to Watson asking for the trade when a massage therapist threatened to go public and ruin him. Watson continued to book massage therapists.

No one could protect Watson from sexually assaulting (allegedly) these women but Watson.

Nothing you say - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING - will impact or influence his perspectives. I know this after years of No Spin Zone tail chasing.

To ALL: This thread is close to wearing out it's point. Keep it respectful and civil and it'll stay open. Otherwise, y'all know what's up. :cowboy1:

Its just a guess on my part, but I suspect that Payton goes back to the studio gig. Money is real good, gets a lot of atta boys from everyone and he doesn't have to spend 20 hours a day doing it. My guess for us is Ryans. I'm not real sure how I feel about that. He's a really good young DC, but how will that translate to HC I'm not sure. I THINK he is probably smart enough to bring in an equally good, innovative young coach to run the offense. With any luck, he will do the same for the defense also. A big question in my mind will be how good are they all at judging talent and bringing guys up to their full potential. If they can't recognize talent or teach, its not going to really matter how good they are at scheming plays.

He moves in coaching circles and plays opposite them every game so I imagine he recognizes talent when he sees it.

The Texans hired two coaches that no one else was lining up to sign.

Gave them guaranteed contracts worth millions. They both are set up for the rest of their lives.

That's not what racists do.

:coffee:
Exactly my thoughts. Lovie is under .500 for his entire coaching career and no one else was going to hire him for HC. So not only did Stephen A call the Texans racists, he encouraged other black coaching candidates to avoid working for the team. So, I guess he doesn't want another person of color to get a high paying job?

It's all based on him capitalizing on the optics of the situation and to make it seem something it's not, while hoping to influence others to not apply and advance in their career. He's judging a book by it's cover, or manipulating the cover to what he wants people to believe, jumping to conclusions, assigning blame, making bold accusations without any facts or personal knowledges of the situation all for a hot take. Sounds rather racist. All with zero repercussions.

He's either a racist himself or a sell out with zero interest in behaving with integrity. But not anything better than those two. It's despicable.

This is another part of why he was hired in addition to being able to put butts in the seats.

Luckily he's a potential good HC.
Are you pissing in your own bowl of and eating it hoping it tastes good? That is what this comment says.

Pouting because your guy Kafca isn’t going to get the job.

Kafca wasn’t a good prospect. He still has to prove his worth and earn his dues.

Nope, I just dont like the way Ryans got the job and the reasons he got the job. I do think he will be a good HC. No pouting here and not surprised Cal wouldn't listen to his GM's recommendations again. Like a great philosopher/sexual predator once said, some things never change.

The McNairs get goodwill from the fans/media with this hire. So I guess that's a good thing.

Stephen A, along with the woke mob, has a free pass to spread as much hate and division as he damn well pleases because everyone must pay for the mistakes that were made by others hundreds of years ago. If you dare disagree or call him and the woke mob out on their reverse racism, you are racist and will be cancelled.

Isn’t it funny and satisfying to see him be proven wrong by all the candidates that he claimed were not interested, and by Hannah McNair calling him out on his racist agenda personally on Sports 610?

Stephen A is a jackass and always has been. On the topic of slavery, I'm roughly 50/50 German-Czech. Germans were captive to the Roman's as slaves for hundreds of years. The term slave is derived from the word "slav." As in Czech's.

Go back far enough, every culture was a slave.

If I was Cal, I would call up the producers of first take and set up a in studio debate. Those dumbasses would trip over themselves to make that happen. As soon as Stephen A started screaming I would stand up and slam down a document envelope informing him that ESPN/ABC/Disney and Stephen personally are being served with a defamation lawsuit. I would then remove my mic..drop it, and walk out.

In all honesty they should be sued and held liable. This wouldn't be the first or even second time Screaming A. got in hot water with the network. If Cal did this I promise you it'd never reach court. It'd be settled for millions and Stephen A would be out of a job. Someone needs to start holding the media accountable.

Brian Cushing played like an All-Pro with DeMeco Ryans playing at his side. Once DeMeco was traded to Philly, Cushing never played at that level again. Will DeMeco be a good head coach someday? I say, "yes." Do the Texans deserve him? Hell naw... Hopefully, a better opportunity comes along for Mr. Ryans, but I think the Texans have first dibs.

Houston has to be on top of DR's list with all the ties he has here. And I reckon he's a fair weather guy.
