Texans 2008 NFL Draft

And what is Washington doing??

They draft 2 receivers and a tight end in the 2nd round. They already have Santana Moss and Antwan Randle-El. Now they add Fred Davis, Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas.

New coach, new offense. More of a west coast thing. Needs more than 2 good WR's.

gives Beck some healthy competition, similiar to the Packers taking Brohm. Beck doesn't fit Parcells' QB mold at all so it's not surprising that he'd take a 4-year starter from a big program, as that's his thing at QB.

but the writing was on the wall for a while with Henne, lots of talk and innuendo regarding possible trades and stuff to get him

I love that Pittsburgh pick!

All the VY/UT losers were creaming themselves over the possibility of Sweed falling to them in the second, and Pittsburgh steps up and takes him instead.

Beautiful.

That and Big Ben asked for a tall receiver so he fit what they were asking for

we actually had a chance to trade back a second time but Smithiak declined...

http://houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=4272

This year's swap created some anxiety among the Texans' coaches and scouts, but Smith remained calm.

"We were worried (Brown wouldn't be there at No. 26)," Smith said. "I think I tried to be the calm in the storm because I had a room full of people who were scared to death that we were not going to get him. So I had to put on a good face."

The Seattle Seahawks, who held the No. 28 overall pick, called about trading up for the Texans' No. 26 overall pick, but Smith respectfully declined their offer.

"I don't think (Kubiak) could have handled that," Smith said smiling. "By the time we made the pick, (Kubiak) was in the back of the room."

"I actually heard the phone ring with about a minute left," Kubiak said, "and I screamed down, 'Don't answer it!'"

Man, some of the way this is developing is really surprising me.

I'm really surprised Connor is still around - many mocks had him in the first. I doubt he makes it out of the 2nd, but regardless, it's sruprising he's dropped.

Also, there haven't been any OTs in the 2nd round, after 8 taken in the first round.

Things are looking good for us in the CB front. Only 7 of them picked so far so we have a fairly good chance of getting a good one in the third. Godfrey, King, Patrick Lee are all available so good chance one drops to us. Makes not picking CB in the first look like a good choice in hindsight.

EDIT: Well, Lee is gone now but still, the chances of getting a good CB are good.

Spoke too soon. Lee off the board to GB.

I was about to say the same thing. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Does to me. They need to upgrade athletically at the position besides Witten and Fasano wasn't that guy. Plus they got a 4th. I think if he refines his skills he could be huge.

I'm hoping Godfrey falls to us.

If he doesn't, I'm looking at Zack Bowman, Tyvon Branch, and Justin King.

I like the pick. Saw him play twice last year, he's got good footwork, speed and knows how to block downfield. I have no problem with the pick and look forward to seeing what he can do.

Guess what my new tag line will be for '08 ?

put the whole series in or it means nothing.
...or are you like those Fox media twerps who just use soundbites that serve your purpose?

That statement was concerning the #18 pick where we neither picked an OL nor a RB. Those of us who thought (hoped) we'd pick a RB or OL at 18 were all wrong. They traded down.

I listen to nfl radio everyday, not to mention I have a buddy who is a scout. What is consensus and consistent is during his tenure with the broncos , gibbs chooses the lineman and rb's. He also coaches both. Also what's consistent is gibbs never drafts rb's that run from spread and the lt is almost always a ex tight end. Even spencer was a ex tight end.

I knew mendenhall would be there and I knew the texans would pass. Go and look at the rbs chosen by the broncos during gibbs era and u will see all were I-backs. People may not like it, but they got a atheletic tackle to coach up and a extra pick. I trust their judgement.

In Kubiak's time here, our 3rd round picks turned into Erik Winston, Charles Spencer, and Jacoby Jones. Can't wait to see who we get tomorrow.

By the way, everyone says Jonathan Stewart gives Carolina a legit running game....but no way he turns out better than DeAngelo Williams.
