I actually really like this invite. It wouldn’t shock me to see him get a contract/make the practice squad.
Also found this on him-No real info on my normal site about him.

Camp body, maybe makes the PS.Texans signed WR Daniel Jackson.
Jackson’s (5’11/193) athletic abilities won’t garner him much praise on the gridiron, but what he lacks in flash, he makes up for with savvy route running to gain an edge over opposing defenders. He’ll need to show that same level of acumen at a higher level if he hopes to show he can separate in the pros, but his career 50 percent contested catch rate suggests he can find more ways to win in coverage. Jackson was a four-year starter at Minnesota and ended his career with a 75-863-4 line, posting career highs in receptions, yards, and targets. His ability to play outside and in the slot will work to his advantage, as coaches will have a chance to explore where he would best fit in their receiving room, but he could be better suited as a zone-beating slot receiver due to his limited speed — he ran just a 4.63s 40-yard dash. Jackson only logged 20 snaps on special teams during his career, which may work against him when it comes to finalizing roster cutdowns.
Eli Cox-OC Kentucky signed a 250k garranteed 3yr deal.. I'm not saying that he is going to replace anyone but, with 250k garranteed. The must like something about him. His weaknesses seem coachable

Looking for UFDA and of course the Texans signings I noticed on various tracker sites the Texans have the least signings so far opposed to the other teams. I know it's early but many of the other teams are signing them up. I can not recall the signings being so slow in the past years. Anyways just a now observance.

Cero Miedo! The greatest luchador of all time is El Grande Americano.
Don't really understand this move, even with "redshirt" year.Huzzie was a highly regarded prospect before he tore his ACL at the shrine bowl. I assume he’ll be moved to IR once the cutdowns begin to let him rehab fully. But interesting the Texans think highly enough of him to sign him with essentially a “redshirt” year.

I share your sentiments but not getting my hopes up because it seems if the Texans thought he had a realistic chance to make the team and contribute they would have used one of thoseMost guaranteed among UDFAs per Aaron Wilson. Would love to see another viable center on this roster other than Patterson. Hopefully he’s a UDFA gem!
Agree. I don’t know why but UDFA’s seem to generate more interest around here than 6th and 7th rounders. Maybe it’s just a “lottery” attitude? I believe they sell tickets for UFDA’s at Valero stations.I share your sentiments but not getting my hopes up because it seems if the Texans thought he had a realistic chance to make the team and contribute they would have used one of those
many sixth or seventh round picks for him ?
Unfortunately, he falls more in the category of Suggs...............very weak in the lower extremities. Won't be able tp hold back strong NFL Dlinemen. Most guaranteed among UDFAs per Aaron Wilson. The same things were said about David Andrews when he came out of college. I wouldn't bet against this young man. He's probably a PS guy next yr.Unfortunately, he falls more in the category of Suggs...............very weak in the lower extremities. Won't be able tp hold back strong NFL Dlinemen.
Arm length has not been much of an important evaluation for a center, but it is still important, especially when compensating for weakness. NFL centers' arm lengths today still hoover around 33 inches. Cox has an arm length of just barely 31 inches! The same things were said about David Andrews when he came out of college. Despite a 4.62 40, he was not able to gain separation in college.............not likely to be coached up in the NFL to do better.WR Daniel Jackson added to the roster. Decent combine numbers. No real info on much else.

Edit: Unless he can be coached up fast...camp body
lol not really I always enjoyed diamond in the rough UDFA signings. But it's not interest vs 6&7 rounders it's something to get into after all the draft is over. So next stops are UDFA and then maybe more trades as the season progresses.Agree. I don’t know why but UDFA’s seem to generate more interest around here than 6th and 7th rounders. Maybe it’s just a “lottery” attitude? I believe they sell tickets for UFDA’s at Valero stations.
What caught my attention was the mention of Jerome Carvin as the backup OC ???. Will have to see who this guy is. I agree with CnnnD about Cox's 31" arms. First thing I noticed when I searched his draft report after the signing. Except for this, seems a decent enough prospect for a depth position, but the odds are really against him.

Yeah there have been plenty of centers with short arms.Arm length has not been much of an important evaluation for a center, but it is still important, especially when compensating for weakness. Out of curiosity, I looked up all 2024 centers........FWIW, none had an arm length of 31 inches.Yeah there have been plenty of centers with short arms.
Despite a 4.62 40, he was not able to gain separation in college.............not likely to be coached up in the NFL to do better.
If a center can control two and a half feet on either side of him and throw in another six or eight inches with slide or shuffle, I am more interested in his ability to read the defense and set up the offensive line play. As a guard for emergency plays, we'll see. What caught my attention was the mention of Jerome Carvin as the backup OC ???. Will have to see who this guy is. I agree with CnnnD about Cox's 31" arms. Was that his combine measurement? Hasn't there been an issue of the new person doing the measurements giving out much shorter measurements this year?Out of curiosity, I looked up all 2024 centers........FWIW, none had an arm length of 31 inches.
Yes, most teams went with the measurements from the all-star games or got their own. And it wasn't just arm lengths that were off, a bunch of the hand measurements were wrong as wellWas that his combine measurement? Hasn't there been an issue of the new person doing the measurements giving out much shorter measurements this year?
Yes, the problem is that we don't know exactly what the discrepancy is. But yesterday I did find an old Kentucky measurement of 31 1/8".Was that his combine measurement? Hasn't there been an issue of the new person doing the measurements giving out much shorter measurements this year?
I reported this earlier elsewhere, usingYes, most teams went with the measurements from the all-star games or got their own. And it wasn't just arm lengths that were off, a bunch of the hand measurements were wrong as well
wow 6'8 usually TE avg 6'4-6 '6 and 7 but 8 that's tall no? it's not bad or good whadda I know lolYep, I smell camp body. Now the 6' 8" TE, I hope he is healthy, he had an ACL last year. He has skill and at 6' 8"...wow. Runs a 4.6-ish.
In 2023 at Pro Day, his arms measured at 34 1/2 inches. If a center can control two and a half feet on either side of him and throw in another six or eight inches with slide or shuffle, I am more interested in his ability to read the defense and set up the offensive line play. FWIW, Draftbuzz has him. 33 3/8s
Has anyone actually measured his arms? I know he wasn't @ combine and I didn't find anything at his pro day.https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Jerome-Carvin-OL-Tennessee

Texans Invite Mammoth-Sized Rookie Weapon to Tryouts

Wow! 3 concussions isn't good. I do like that he is known for run blocking as we definitely need that. Thanks for the info!I spoke to a person I know who has followed him since his days at Klein HS. Interestingly enough, he has confirmed that Tharp is actually just under 6'9" tall (after having grown two inches during his time as a Red Raider). The 250 lbs in this article is also not correct. He put on serious weight to tip the scales at 270 pounds, 45 pounds heavier than he weighed as a recruit. Also interesting is that prior to taking up with Texas Tech, he was given offers from the Arizona Wildcats and the Michigan State Spartans!
He has been known more for his run blocking prowess................something that the Texans have lacked for decades.
Injury history (with loss of 9 games) have been a concern. His specific injuries have essentially been kept under wrap. However, I have managed to find out that while at Texas Tech before the 2023 season, he had already suffered 3 significant concussions.
I found an article that very well reviews Tharp and includes some very interesting video clips.
2025 NFL DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT: TEXAS TECH TE MASON THARP
I like this young man. I hope with time and a lot of effort, he can develop into a real Texans weapon while avoiding injury.
