They traded up for Eresy, they traded up for Woody Mark's, they traded up for Luke Lachey. Most people don't agree with trading up for those players. Throughout Caserio's career here in Houston his selections after a trade causes most people to scratch their heads.I'm not sure about either statement here. Ersery seems to be an OT only but we will see. He's a great athlete for his size. And not sure that they thought more highly of him than Conerly. Reports that they tried to trade up for Conerly after moving down to 34. But also reports that they tried to trade up for Booker, Banks, and Egbuka prior to that. Still thrilled with Higgins, though. Wouldn't have even disliked it at 25.
I say RB, but I'm not sure what the think about Pierce. He flashed a little last year, but didn't get a lot of opportunities. I also believe TE is a huge hole, maybe they're still happy with Schultz. What needs do they have and how would you address them?
I view Ersery @ LG as I did Donovan Jackson @ LT; probably do okay but only if emergency.I'm not sure about either statement here. Ersery seems to be an OT only but we will see. I did not loathe Nick Caserio from day one. I can promise you, Nick earned every bit of my disrespect for him as a GM. It was around the first training camp that I realized that Nick Caserio was everything that Jack Easterby thought he could be. You have some kind of special gullibility to not see Nick the facilitator, was over his head as a GM.
Speaking only to the offense, I think the Texans have done a credible job addressing their most glaring needs in free agency, the draft and now a signing in UDFA. Our rebuilt OL is pretty much set, with the IOL still needing competition to upgrade Scruggs and Broeker. Maybe Eli Cox can push Scruggs at the backup OC position.
This offense should move to middle of the pack. Our passing game should return to maybe top 10. It remains to be seen how much better our run game can be, but improved over last year? Yes.
So, as of now, no glaring needs until we see how our new coaching staff can coach up this roster.
And I'm well aware I'm always more optimistic than some on this board who always want more. What I see is a playoff team with a two year record of 20 - 14 who has made significant changes to get the team to the next level. And I'm now patient to see the results.

I say this to say, we "know" the Texans tried to trade up at various points in the draft & did not succeed. We have no idea who the Texans were targeting & chances are we're wrong about who we think they wanted.

What can we do? Wait for someone to get cut, try to find a trade partner. I don't know.
Really liked getting both the Iowa State receivers - that feels like a massive dub for the team as a whole.
Was surprised and disappointed they weren’t able to get more o-line pieces especially in the interior but one thing I really noticed was a that a lot of the Cs and Gs dropped far lower than most prognosticators had them so nfl teams as whole didn’t rank them as highly.
Which again shouldn’t be surprising. One thing I don’t think people realize when they talk about “value” and “they could have got them later” when discussing guys taken in rounds 3 and beyond is most prognosticators have barely watched those prospects. They’ll watch maybe a game or two and have a very rough idea of their game and if those games happen to be good or bad it massively influences their overall feel of the player.
It’s just a simple numbers and time factor. A lot of these prognosticators have full time media gigs that have to fit tape watching in on the side. NFL teams have huge staffs that grind tape and go to games as a full time (plus overtime) job.
Overall though I liked the draft a lot. They addressed a lot of needs especially at wideout. Only criticisms were lack of interior oline and would have liked some higher ranked DT or RB picks because the classes were deep and good but I can’t really find faults because ones I wanted weren’t available without significant trade ups being required.

Without a doubt, the protection problems in the second half of the season were partly due to a lack of players who could create any separation with, or without, the ball. It's pretty obvious that the Texans feel better about the players they have in the building for OL as opposed to drafting more IOLs. And they definitely did not feel this way about the WR room. This speaks volumes about what they think about Metchie and Hutchinson. The picks tell me those guys are on the chopping block and very unlikely to make the team.
We won't know how good this draft is/was until a couple of years from now, but I can't fault them for their vision and the plan they executed. Doesn't look like they overdrafted anyone with the exception of Marks, but I don't really have an issue with it if he's the guy they thought would fit their offense. IMO don't really have an issue with overdrafting players unless it's in round 1 or 2.
Confirmed, Nick Caserio hates the fifth round.

31 teams get an automatic A+ for not drafting Shedeur.
I considered them getting another edge rusher like Jack Sawyer who would be a big culture fit type, but overall they seem to be plenty happy with Hunter and Anderson as starters, Barnett and Taylor as backups, and Horton as a developmental guy. Autry can also do some work on the edge. The Iowa State guys and Woody are all big upgrades in the passing game. With Kirk in there, that is a pretty solid 4 WR set, especially with Woody in the backfield.
A 3-tech DT would have been great. An interior pass rusher and a DE/OLB tweener to take advantage of Anderson and Hunter would have been sweet.
This for sure gave their franchise QB a bunch of weapons. I was pissed at the trade down originally, because I thought it cost them both a WR and Conerly. Glad that worked out
Where? He's not a guardErsery will probably start.
Caserio/Ryans/Caley thought more of Ersery than Conerly.
I don't, I think he's strictly a tackleI view Ersery @ LG as I did Donovan Jackson @ LT; probably do okay but only if emergency.
Depending on if they decide to use Howard at LG then he will probably fight it out with Fisher at RT. I could definitely see Ersery beating out Fisher. Stoots said Caserio thinks he can play LG.Where? He's not a guard
If he beats out Fisher, then Fisher is a mistake. One of thr biggest mistakes they have made is moving Howard from rt to lg. Not only a change of sides, but a stance change. He's a LT from what I see. Moving him inside is a recipe for disaster to me. Brandon Sherrif is still out there also.Depending on if they decide to use Howard at LG then he will probably fight it out with Fisher at RT. I could definitely see Ersery beating out Fisher. I wouldn't mind if healthy an OL like this,
Robinson/Howard/Patterson/Brown/Ersery.
With all of that beef I'll bet you they can run the ball better.
Let the best man win across the board . Forget about where guys were drafted and put the best players on the field. Same goes with Scruggs. If he beats out Fisher, then Fisher is a mistake. At least not this early, nothing he did (especially in coverage) screamed "deserves to be highest paid nickel in the NFL" to me.They depth of this draft with slot corners is the reason why I didn't understand the Pitre extension
Not at all familiar with Marks so I watch posted vids of him. He looks pretty shifty without losing speed. And he had a lot better 40 time than Arian Foster. It’s going to come down to how he is used. I just feel like his skill sets can be a big key to this offense. For me there is nothing more irritating than a FB that keeps making you pay. Defenses want to ignore those guys but hopefully he can freeze a blitz.0 starters except maybe at wr partially. A qb and a slow rb doesn't do it for me
I definitely agree with Howard being that left tackle but he did look a bit better as the season ended at left guard. If he beats out Fisher, then Fisher is a mistake. I think we're going to find out if you're right. Howard is an avg player that's way overpaid. Doesn't matter what side/stance etc.. he's on. Finally they say he's in the best shape of his career. I guess a little competition is a good thing. If he beats out Fisher, then Fisher is a mistake. One of thr biggest mistakes they have made is moving Howard from rt to lg. Upon hearing NC talk about Hutchinson several times at his press conference, I would now assume that Metchie is going to be the odd man out, or potentially dumped in a Kenyon Green type swap. It's pretty obvious that the Texans feel better about the players they have in the building for OL as opposed to drafting more IOLs. X has the inside track to stick because he's good at ST. If Metchie plays ST, I never noticed him. So even if they consider Metchie a slightly better WR, he doesn't give you as much value as the 5th or 6th WR on the roster.Upon hearing NC talk about Hutchinson several times at his press conference, I would now assume that Metchie is going to be the odd man out, or potentially dumped in a Kenyon Green type swap.
