Nick Caserio is throwing money around like Larry Hagman in tv series Dallas. I have not seen any moves that I hate and even Danielle Hunter only made me go whoa. Howard's restructure gave me pause but I can at least understand Nick's thinking. So here's my question:
Will Caserio allow a few games to pass to evaluate how Stroud is doing behind a supposedly better offensive line then extend Stroud ? I am still thinking Nick will bring in a quality wide receiver and at least one guard and one tackle in draft. That could consist of a tackle that is also good at guard such as Banks. By game 5, he should know if we are seeing Stroud's 2023 or 2024 season.
I am very impressed by the way Derek Stingley's extension worked out. We all know that the quarterback salaries are going to continue to explode. While per annum costs for QB has increased, the percentage to cap hasn’t. The percentage of GTD $ has jumped.
Spotrac projects 2028 cap to increase by 80 m or 31%.
A Stroud projection from June 2024 (link above) for 3 years from now was $392 million and $291 m GTD with APY of 78.5 m.
Nick isn't afraid of high risk maneuvers. I think he could save quite a bit by extending Stroud during the 2025 season. As with Sting, Stroud's extension would not have large money into cap space until 2027.
Setting aside Dak Prescott stupid deal as you would DeShaun Watson when he signed, $55 million APY for the next four top quarterbacks recently signed. I think Nick could push that same type deal to 23 YOA Stroud.
It's all about how the $ is placed and the guarantee.
Leaving Will Anderson...?
