Texans Player Transaction DISCUSSION Thread

I wonder if some of the reason these FA OL players don't want to sign is that they want a guaranteed starter spot?

Regardless of your feelings about our tackles, NC and Demeco have made it abundantly clear that all players on the roster will have to compete for their job. For those of you (myself included) that wanted Tunsil gone and the culture of the OL/offense to change, these are the growing pains of those changes. I care more about the finished product of the line instead of "winning free agency." I know it's a trite statement at this point, but usually the team that does well in FA is not as good in the regular season when the games count.
 
The first day of free agency Texans pulled some moves. Then it was the Kirk thing n said to myself great move. The second day of free agency imo the Texans seemed to be the most busy vs NFL teams and did some great money moves all along in their future plans. Considering when all the monetary dust settles dong the money salary cap space thing and such they have it rockin and rollin in this position and place in time.
Now when the draft comes imo they will go offensive with their first 1-3 maybe 4 picks

Daryl "Moose," Johnston says they want to be independent of the NFL yet nothing I have seen comes close to showing that to be the case.

With a possible players strike for the UFL players and the merged league not wanting to answer to their modest demands, I have no desire to follow the league. The NFL for the most part doesn't need or truly want the UFL's marginal talent that couldn't make it in the NFL coming out of college anyhow. The possibility of one or two feel good stories a year just is not all that interesting to me. Most UFL players will be nothing more than sub par special teams players or practice squad chumps! With no spring league ever again being anything like the original USFL I could care less and won't tune in!

Hey I understand but when you live in San Antonio and near areas we just love watching football live. We have a local team regardless that can give us that for $30 -$100. Its fun don't forget.
As a Houston fan I or we go to a game there gas lodging food parking etc and then tickets how much huh are they? ANd how many times is one going? Here take a Via bus free the Alamodome for me a regular bus .25 be there in 15 minutes and back. Now if I still lived in Houston or are fir shir man I'd be going to Reliant.
We have a blast and still have money left!

They can't even market their league or get involved in their communities in a way that says their serious about being successful. The only reason those two cities got a lot of support was because they carried over from before Covid started and ended the XFL 2 which looked like it had a real chance to succeed. I predict season two is the last season for the UFL!

We have a blast going to the games here and the kids. Thank you UFL. It's fun and still have money left over and some autographs for them. 2 adults 4 kids $30 a pop $180 good seats n views free parking by free bus. How much is a ticket for an NFL game for one person? And if you are out of town forget it.
I get what you say about the money management league business thing but in San Antonio they are football lovers too and we take it when we can.

Texans agree to one-year deal with Casey Toohill​


The Texans have a one-year agreement with veteran defensive end Casey Toohill, his agency announced Wednesday night.

Toohill, 28, spent last season with the Bills. He played 14 games and totaled 20 tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed.

The Eagles made Toohill a seventh-round pick in 2020, and he played one game for Philadelphia before his release. The Commanders claimed him.

He stayed with Washington through the 2023 season before leaving for Buffalo.

In his career, Toohill has recorded 100 tackles, eight sacks, 21 quarterback hits and 11 tackles for losses with three forced fumbles.

5 sacks and 6 TFLs in his most significant playing time with Washington in 2023. Obviously with any signing on the defensive side of the ball i’ll just assume this guy is going to be up for a raise once his contract expires after adding another testimonial to the DeMeco DL program.

It is going to be very difficult to make this team on the defensive line! If there is a position on this roster where the Texans are likely going to trade a player for a draft pick they’ll have to otherwise cut in camp, it’s on the DL.

Injuries have a way of changing things before the season. Does not hurt to have decent depth.

Anybody who doesn't perform well and cannot stay on the field is wasted money. Everybody doesn't have an additional 2.5 mil worth of incentives tied to that though.

No, but he is about to! That's what he is saying with these moves. He is putting his neck on the chopping block and therefore, I read what he is doing as bold and very confident... but not the idiot's version of confidence. He is, after all, tearing down that which he built- he drafted Green and signed Tunsil and Mason. So, the fact that he is moving on from them at this moment for this team says something significant! He knows that he is going to get scrutiny for the Tunsil move, especially. He is "all in," and I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out in 2025-26!!

Darby, 31, is a former second-round pick of the Bills out of Florida State back in 2015. The Eagles traded WR Jordan Matthews and a 2018 third-round pick to the Bills in return for Darby in 2017.

Darby played out the final year of his four-year, $4.569 million contract before returning to the Eagles on a one-year contract. From there, he agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract with Washington.

The Broncos signed Darby to a three-year, $30 million contract with $19 million fully guaranteed in 2021. However, he was released after two seasons.

From there, Darby signed a one-year deal with the Ravens in 2023. Darby then signed a two-year deal with Jacksonville last offseason but was let go after just a season.

In 2024, Darby appeared in 13 games for the Jaguars and recorded 46 tackles, including three tackles for loss and nine pass deflections.

Sports fans have an appetite for knowing how much athletes are paid. That goes back to Babe Ruth. Actors or CEOs, not so much. Unless they get to the Bill Gates, Elon Musk level.

The salary caps and tracking those numbers have taken this fascination to a different level. And I get it. It's part of the game inside of the game. But these numbers are fantasy. They only relate to the other numbers in the game. 2 years for $10 million? That's a bargain! For fans to moan about these numbers rings hollow. You attend the games, watch the commercials on TV, buy the licensed gear. The fans make all of this $$$ possible.

I get what you mean about the cost and fun of getting out with the family to enjoy football. The problem is that message is not getting through the way it should. Just the fact that the UFL can't even be bothered to pay their networks to have a "Today in the UFL," type of weekly TV program and have it get recognized on their network sports news and talk shows in a way that builds excitement for the casual football fans says to me they are being too cost prohibitive. I am not sure the league can survive being so frugal and inefficient with their promotion.

It doesn't help that Daryl "Moose," Johnston says things like this is the most talented alternative football league to the NFL since the original USFL and that they don't see themselves as a developmental league for the NFL when that is not what the people are witnessing. If this league is half as good as the original USFL and wants to stand alone aside of ties to the NFL they have a funny way of showing it.

They need to determine what kind of league they are. If they are just a TV program that they can use to broadcast cheaper shows than scripted or even other reality Tv shows, they need to put their eggs in that basket and spend accordingly to that. If however they want to be an exciting brand of Tv with weekly UFL news programs and mentions on shows like ESPN First Take while being a cheap and fun way for families like yours to come to games, they need to expound on that fact and promote it. Their commercials should highlight the low cost of admission and affordable food.

The people I have tried to get to tune in say they haven't seen anything that makes the league look all that interesting. I agree with them. There just aren't enough hardcore football fans in this country to watch what they think is a league with low talent and no excitement.

Tubi shows UFL games and I watched some of them and the football wasn't that bad. Nothing close to the original USFL of the 80's but it is still worthy of solid ratings and fans in the stands. I hope the players threatening a strike doesn't end this league in it's infancy before we have a real chance to see it grow and find out what it could become.

I get it but talking from a San Antonio aspect we have no problems filling up the Alamo stadium even with the TV broadcasts and that includes no families too. If I remember correctly the Brahmas were playing very good in the XFL too but that faded away $$$ rather quickly. Hey always room for improvement of these new leagues and your points are very good. It's a starting point of new ideas but it is a young league enterprise. It does offer typical football games when football season is over aka between the nfl college and baseball afterwards. If you are a long time cord cutter aka no ESPN and one without streaming subscriptions it's a winner for me.

They also gave away a lot of those tickets. The fans were there including myself but only because the UFL including the Brahmas mismanaged their money. I sure hope they get it figured out because it was fun to watch. I enjoyed it.

I respect that Caserio is willing to admit his mistakes and move on from them. OB would've traded CJ for a 4th round pick and a 35 yo RB with a lengthy injury history before he would admit a mistake.
I hope he is as honest with his assessment of his scouting staff as he seems to be with himself.
