Texans Player Transaction DISCUSSION Thread

Not expecting Woodard to make the roster, but clearly a UDFA the team wanted since they snagged him off waivers when he got cut post seahawks minicamp.

From Dane Brugler (rated 6-7 round pick)

A former walk-on at Arkansas, he transferred to UNLV and topped 115 tackles in back-to-back seasons — including a standout senior year in which he led all FBS linebackers in passes defended (17) and ranked No. 2 in interceptions (four).

Wonder who get cut in the corresponding move
I heard that Futakasi had shoulder labrum repair mid March, something that has not be reported. If this is true, he will have no action in OTAs and preseason. His readiness for the beginning of the regular season will not happen. If this is not true and he has decided against surgery, rehab requires 3-6 months [closer to 6 months for full rehab], and depending when he was considered to have begun serious rehab, he could return sometime as early as the end of May or the beginning of June. Return to play is expected in 75% of players undergoing conservative treatment, with a 70% return performance level.

Apparently they see his as a tackle and with the number of bodies there, i guess they just didnt see him making it. This might be doing him a solid for him to catch on now so he has a whole offseason with a new team.

Or, and hear me out now, Foley was a better run-stuffer than PFF knows how to measure/grade.

He did have some plays that I really thought would push him into better better productivity but seemingly that did not happen. I hope they are not paying him the $5 million he got last season.

I'm fine with 5M, that's chump change for a situational starter/backup on the DL.
Usually, I would agree with you. However, if we are restructuring Fairbairn for less than $3 million space, 5 million is too much for what we paid for Fatu last season.

I am disappointed about retaining Fairbairn. He's good in the regular season but he can't kick in the cold in the playoffs when it matters. I've seen enough of him

I agree, but sometimes you have to do it the hard way. And when your kicker in the cold weather is a known weakness it's time for a change
Look at it this way: Fairbairn hit 13 FGs from 50+ yards last season. That was tied for 2nd in the league with the Steelers Boswell (a cold weather kicker). The next best cold weather kicker was Santos with the Bears with 9. Next was the Patriots kicker, Slye, at 6.

Basically, you're not going to get great FG kicking in cold weather. You have a good kicker for indoor/fair weather. Keep that. Because it doesn't really matter what kicker the Texans take into a cold weather game. They won't be able to replicate that climate while practicing in Houston.

For me Fairbairn is a tough read. I actually feel more confident with his long FG’s than with those within the chip shot range, including extra points. I think he has a bit of a mental thing on the easy stuff.

If the Texans get into chip shot range, they should just take like 6 straight delay penalties to get Fairbairn into his sweet spot.
or let Dare O kick since he played at Wisconson...and btw who would think that a dude from Hawaii and college in SoCal would not exactly like the cold.

Get the #1 seed and home field advantage, and it's a not an issue. This should be the goal for this team in a very weak AFC South.
Yes getting the number 1 seed should always be the goal. But it shouldn't be because your kicker doesn't kick well in the cold weather.

I’d be looking at kickers but I wouldn’t so eagerly be jumping into kicker hell. The grass absolutely is not always greener.
The grass may not be greener but tell me this do you trust Fairbarin to make a GW kick in Baltimore, Buffalo, Kansas City? BTW, I'm against cutting him this season due to xap reasons, knowing this is going to most likely end up biting the team in the butt this year.

Is this your gut feeling or do you have data to support this?

You know you've got a problem when your kicker is kicking more 50+ yards field goals than the league average.

On the one hand the coach likes his chances to score points in those situations. On the other hand your offense struggles to convert from midfield on.

Seems to me Miles will be competing with Tremon Smith for the last spot in the secondary and i favor Smith to win that battle. But competition is never a bad thing, plus if the injury bug bites, you've got an option in the building.

I'm not sure that it's the "cold" factor that is the main problem. In an open stadium during the cold season, I would think that the wind is just as much if not a greater factor. This is especially true since many of those stadiums are near large bodies of water where there is typically a combination of high winds and cold especially during the winter months. BTW, it is fact that coastal wind speeds are greater during the winter months.
