I love my Texans and I think we are in a pretty good position.... but.... IMO You want a new stadium... prove you're a team deserving of a new stadium.

IF you are more or less the same team as you always have been... why should a single beam of a new stadium be erected until you prove you're a new team.

The Texans have made it to the divisional round two years in a row under their new HC. That's more than a lot of teams can say. Which, of course, doesn't mean they don't have problems. LOL

Yep. They're floating the idea for sure, to get reaction. Regardless, they don't need a new stadium; they can just do an extensive renovation. We (tourists and taxpayers) are STILL paying for NRG. No way should public funds be used to fund a SECOND stadium. No way.

And, they would dare to even THINK about threatening to move. That would backfire in their faces. They barely have the fan base back, threatening to leave could alienate them for good.

Even if there was (my guess would be east of 59, maybe midtown?) the infrastructure to get people in and out is not there. And when the 59/45 project gets going, it's only going to be 10,000 times worse.

This is the only reason I ever have even the slightest problem with this subject.

I don't care what billionaires do with their money... it's theirs.

I do have a problem with taxpayers taking on a huge portion of the cost... then those very same tax payers paying hefty prices for the season tickets/single ticket for the "privilege" to sit in the building their taxes paid most of its construction.

Plenty of bigger needs in the city than a fancier building.

But the reality is.... its always easier to spend other peoples money.

All for the low, low price of $2,000* per seat.

*this will increase by $1000 a year if the team posts a .500 record.

That long stretch between the Oilers exit from Houston until we got the Texans was tough
for me even though I continued to watch NFL games every week, but not the same without
my hometown team not to follow and root for every Sunday.

$ 2,000 per seat is about right when you take PSL's into account and that's without all of the shiny new toys.

There’s not really any other location in the loop to put it. Putting it in the Woodlands is not a great idea.

best way to do this, honestly, would be to re-invent the (new) dome as per reinventing the wheel.
do NOT put it across the loop on the old AstroWorld property
if you can't make it happen inner loop...
(which, technically they could-- it would just cost a lot... there are strategic locations throughout the region... with Katy/Fulshear/Bridgeland/Magnolia/NE Cypress/W Houston--outside 8.... no offense to the SW/S/SE/E side... it just aint gon' work.)
....making the most sense if you choose to leave the loop.
I would personally rather see something right along the bayou... fcuk it... HPD/city jail, you get to move into new digs... all that surrounding property you're on --> repurposed for downtown stadium mixed use district. Its a win-win for all parties.... they just dont know how to take advantage of state/fed funded programs & grants.

Exactly. How about the Texans Go "F" themselves on this one. I was all in on building them a stadium once. Twice I just don't care and $1.4 BILLION DOLLARS is madness. Insanity stops here (and I'm speaking as one of the admittedly "formerly insane"). Maintain the thing properly. That's all.

Reconsidered. They're the "Texans" right? Austin? San Antonio? Maybe even Fort Worth? Move around every 20-25 years but stay in Texas. Nothing changes but Houston gets a break having to keep fronting stadium money for the McNair's and the NFL.

Another place with land that's growing quickly is on 99 between Woodlands and New Caney.

1. Demolition of NRG and Astrodome.
2. New stadium on the same footprint would have a football stadium on the interior, and a hotel that would wrap the exterior. Restaurants and bars would gain the ground level outside facing exterior. This way hotel, restaurants, bars, and parking would be available year round.
3. Stadium would need to seat 85K fans. Better fits for National Championship Games and Super Bowl’s.
4. City would pay for the Dome’s demolition and McNair’s along with investors in hotel would pay the demolition of NRG.
5. Look at layout to ensure new park could be built while still utilizing NRG for home games.
6. I’d like think a billionaire hotel conglomerate wouldn’t mind having a stake….nor would I be surprised if Tillman Fertitta threw his hat in to have a hold on the restaurant’s.
7. The land being one of the biggest hurdles, could essentially be negated through an agreement to build new structure on the existing land. Parking should not be an issue with the removal of the Dome. Hail, I’d even add a state of the art pay for parking garage at the far end of the construction area. Tailgaters would still have plenty of parking around the stadium.
8. McNair’s would also a year round cash flow for the stadium now that the amenities of convenience would essentially be under the same roof.

At least that’s my idea.
