Looks like they're interviewing their candidates. Seems like a thorough process so far. How are you going to have someone lined up immediately until you fire your existing OC? You can't interview until after the position is open. Who exactly do you want that hasn't been interviewed yet or hasn't "lined up"? And yes, I know you probably would have kept Slowik.

I'm not sure why they don't just keep the Shanny system but add the elements that the Rams (McVay) and Packers (Matt LaFleur) are adding to the base scheme. As I am writing this last sentence, based on his work with Packers OL and working with LaFleur. If Chip Kelly is unavailable, Stenavich might be the candidate.

I agree, he can run if need be but I don't think he's particularly good at it. The playoffs are a do anything at all costs or go home type of vibe.

Agreed. Stroud is not a RPO QB. That is not his strength. Use it occasionally to help keep the defense off balance, but Stroud needs a quick passing game with a deep shot here and there. I think what Cincinnati does fits Stroud to a T.

They are interviewing folks who have never been an OC before. What happened to the experience they were looking for?

He already has interviewed with the Seahawks.

2) doubt this as recruiting for 2025 over. 2026? Perhaps but most of that is on scouting at this time.

Aren't the Texans looking for an OC that has called plays? I don't see how Stenavich has a leg up on any of the other non-play callers that have been interviewed.

Having the OC title makes a difference. Even if he’s not the play caller he’s doing the gameplan and execution OC tasks. If it worked for KOC and Matt Lafleur maybe it’ll work for Stenavich?

It makes a lot of sense for the Packers. LaFleur can handle all of the head coach duties, and still call the offense on gameday. For the Texans? Not so sure. I will say the Packers run game looked great when Love was injured early last season.
 
“Nick” “C”aley and “Nick” “C”aserio have more than their first name and first letter in their last name in common.

Both went to John Carroll University.

Both Nick’s were with the Patriots when they were on top of the hill.

I suspect these guys know each other pretty well and Caley has plenty of experience at 42 years old. He’s still coaching TE’s up, but he added passing game coordinator to his resume with the Rams. Rams had a nice season.

Maybe it’s time for his shot.

The question was not asked of me, but I was hoping they would have spoken with Chip Kelly and Doug Pederson. Looks like they were not interested in coming here. Other than that, the Texans have done a good job of looking at a lot of candidates. I guess that Commander QB coach Brian Johnson would be my choice, but not by a large margin.

If it's true about Kelly considering he was seen at the airport, I can understand. Good situation at OSU just having won the National Championship. But both he and Pederson are probably more interested in HC jobs than being coordinators. I was all in on Kelly. I'll be fine with whoever they hire, provided we see some results. If **** still stinks next season, then it's on Demeco and Nick, and potentially CJ. The problem with blaming CJ is that you can easily fire a coach and find another one. You can't just go and find a QB of CJ's quality... And I think any reasonable person would agree, CJ is the best/most talented QB this franchise has ever had. We really don't want to f'k it up with him...
 
Personally I dont really care who they get.

Getting big names only guarantee you are the offseason winner... but big names are feel good acquisitions. They can fail just like a never known if they aren't in the right environment.

Just get the hire right. I don't need to be impressed as the offseason champs.

Beyond that it was pretty clear that Slow and CJ weren't the answer. One had to go... IMO they chose correctly at which one to move on from. Hopefully the new OC and CJ will be the answer.

Exactly. That's why I don't understand anyone who's complaining that they haven't made a hire yet. Have they lost any candidates they've interviewed to other teams? No. Then let them take their time to do their due diligence and make the right hire based on hiring process...

You should have had the replacement ready when Slowik got fired makes literally 0 sense, logistically or otherwise.

A lot of people were saying that after the Slowik firing. That the new OC was lined up. But these guys were in tough games down the stretch, then preparing for playoff games. When did they have time to consider Slowik's replacement? Was Slowik already gone before the playoff loss to the Chiefs? I doubt that.
 
Thinking about DeMeco hiring Strausser who to my knowledge did not have a relationship with Slowik or even coaching the OL in the Shanny/Kubiak system and then not hiring anyone from the Shanahan, McVay or LaFleur staffs to help Slowik. It might have been a tough lesson learned to fire his friend but hopefully he now has a better idea of what to look for in an OC.

I really don't care how long it takes. They have to get this right.

Agree. Also, since Zac Taylor spent some time with the Rams and also Mike Sherman's WCO, he seems to be running a hybrid of those schemes. Coming from Cincinnati, based on his experience in the offense. I wonder what Mixon thought of Slowik's play calling and designs.

I’d like to add…..if Nick Caley is offered the job, maybe he could convince Asst OL Coach, Zak Kromer to join him in Houston as the new OL Coach. Kromer has been fairly successful in LA during his career. At least this tandem could be on the same page.
 
We need someone that will maximize Stroud.. Stenavich would do a good job. OL background and brings a different feel to our offense. Packers offense always looks pretty smooth, so imagine that system with our much better personnel.

TBH, this does bother me a little since it means they don't know what they (I'm guessing DeMeco and Caserio) want after 2 years in. Reminds me of our comments related to not having an offensive identity.
