Who do you want as the new OC?

Whoa... wth is going on here?

I really hope they're checking these guys out to fill out their staff & have their eyes set higher for the actual OC.
These types of dudes have been the ones hired during this cycle...
Hired: 49ers pass game specialist Klay Kubiak (1st gig)
Broncos TE coach Declan Doyle (1st gig)
Browns TEs coach Tommy Rees (2 year college different teams, 1st NFL)
Broncos passing game coordinator John Morton (1 college year, 1 NFL year)
Saints OC Klint Kubiak ( 2nfl years with separate teams)
Former Patriots OC Josh McDaniels (legit experience OC)

The guys the Texans have interviewed have the same limited-experience and/or success as the ones hired.

Everybody writing Josh McCown off because reports say he’s unlikely to leave Minnesota?

I like McCown but feel like it's just hitting the reset button. Much like promoting Jerrod Johnson.

Ideally I want an experienced OC who can come in and essentially become the head coach of the offense. Not someone who has to come in and learn how to call plays and everything else that goes into being the coordinator.

It's why even if we bring in someone who would be new to being an OC I'd want them to have an extensive coaching background.

Even if McCown hit the ground running there would be plenty of growing pains here and there. I'm not sure with our window we really want to be going through that.

He seems to “fit the mold” of the type of guy DeMeco wants on this team player or coach. And he’s experienced. But i’d like more marquee achievements on his resume.

Syracuse did have an impressive offense this season. But i’d be more impressed if he was coaching against tougher competition.
The ACC isn't the SEC or the Big 10, but it's also not a powderpuff conference.

I'm warming to the idea of Jeff Nixon. He has extensive experience coaching RBs and this team has had a problem developing RBs the past few years (he helped develop Lamar Miller in Miami and managed to get over 600 yards rushing and 6 TDs from some guy names Mike Davis in Carolina after McCaffrey got injured). Also, he knows how to use RBs effectively in the passing game which was lacking under Slowik.

Same, of the mentioned candidates that have been interviewed I would rank Nixon the leader. I would love to see RBs involved in the passing game and he has worked with a lot of pass catching backs.

How many of the first time playcallers are being hired under a defensive hc? It’s one thing if baby Shanny or Sean Payton hires a guy like that, it’s another if Meco does.

We just fired a first time playcaller after only two years. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

What the hell is taking so long.. I really hope they don't do a Cowboys-esque friday evening news dump on this hire
The Texans' is probably the most attractive OC position of all that's left. They don't have to rush, can interview their candidates knowing that they will probably wait to hear from the Texans before any other team.

They're only going to wait so long.. teams that have already made hires are already filling out staffs.. No one wants to be holding the short straws "waiting". I pray it's not Bill Lazor, I wouldn't of even entertained a interview with him.

This group so far sucks donkey balls. Absolutely horrible. Not a single cat in this group that should have been given a chance at this job. My God. Is this really what they are going to push down our throats? If I’m CJ, Mixon, Nico…I’d be absolutely livid.

And the leisurely pace of these interviews is like watching paint dry.

Two years back they nailed the HC search. All the guys interviewed were A+ candidates, and all of them have a HC job elsewhere. They nailed it. They had a sense of urgency, found their guy, and signed him.

This feels eerily similar to the previous HC search, where they are interviewing guys like Hines Ward, Josh McCown…and we got some WR coach that even his own team said who? We are about to be David Cully’ed guys.

This OC search is a Flat out 0 on a scale of 0-10. Once again, Nick is failing this team. If we get some yahoo with no experience, he is back on my chopping block. Nick HAS to do better then this crapfest.

Or, just being logical. If no legitimate candidate is willing to interview or come here they might feel they could be fired even after success. Prepare yourself for Jerrod.

Gotta give it time Porky. Those are just interviews and that’s it. Right now they’re just going through the motions.

Some of these candidates have ties to Chip Kelly. A strong rumor mentions Kelly is the OC hire, and these interviews are to A) fill out his staff and B) offer alternatives if Kelly backs out.

I am thinking that the Texans may have already agreed with Chip Kelly for example but giving the college time to get their plan together for who they will replace him with. Pure conjectural my part. Remember, OSU is in the process of interviewing to replace their defensive coordinator.

I know I'm repeating myself, but if Kelly is the guy I hope he brings his offensive line head coach Frye with him. That would be an amazing important partnership. If Kelly is the guy and also brings other assistant coaches with him that would really place a burden on Ryan Day.

I'm not really worried. I would be surprised if it were Kelly because they could've interviewed him already. I highly doubt it will be another guy who never called plays. In regards to Lazor or Johnson, they were on staff with the failures. I think they're looking for their version of Spags. Ex failed head coach who probably won't get another coaching gig for 5-7 years. Just my thoughts or wants, no sources.

You mean like running deep over routes with no check downs? How about the oline inability to block t-e games and the qb being pressured the most in nfl? Did you see the compressed sets which just brought more pressure to the qb?
You seem to forget multiple times Stroud breaks the huddle late and snapped the ball with 2 seconds on the clock…..Leaving the offense little time to get set. But again. It’s another QB you fail to accurately find fault in.

I think everyone is overrating the experience angle to this. McCarthy, Pederson and Reich have all the experience in the world and that didn’t help them whatsoever at their 2nd stops as HC’s.

Sure, those are HC gigs and not OC jobs but you can’t look at this stuff in a vacuum. Especially if you’re looking for a “HC” of the offense. Plus, I think u need a younger guy to come in here and be able to relate to these guys. That isn’t any of the 3 I listed above. They’re literally the opposite. Older guys who look at the qb position differently and more importantly already have books out on how they call plays in the NFL; i.e. tendencies.

Plus look around the league. Outside of Reid and Payton, all of the coaches regarded as the best play callers in the league are all on the younger side.
So we're gonna act like Dallas offense wasn't good when Dak was healthy? Coaches need players, especially a qb. Jacksonville struggling offensively tells me more about Lawrence than it does Pederson. Pederson to me would be a great oc because that's all he would be responsible for. He's won a sb with Nick Foles and had the other qb in mvp conversation.

Or how about running only two receivers on routes. Or how running the same screen plays over and over with Robert Woods or Metchie. Lol

The play was called. That’s on the QB to run the play. Many instances, receivers ran the wrong routes. That falls on the QB. Maybe he didn’t know the plays either.
The play you may be speaking about might been known as I have no clue which one you're talking about. I'm just stating that there were several times in more than one game that Stroud did not have the play as clock ran down. Even announcers commented on it.

Yes!!!!!!!! The QB is supposed to make sure his receivers know the play and routes 😂
Are you serious? You just lost all relevancy to me. The quarterback calls the play and each player knows where they're supposed to go. Now each player not just wide receivers can hear the play wrong or confuse it but the quarterback never says "okay Nico you run down 10 steps and go to the left. Robert, you cut across the middle and block before you release and look for the ball".
