Texans vs Chargers AAR

Well, the good guys won. The Texans own the Saturday early wild card game slot. 32-12 their most complete game against a winning team played all season!

What went well:

1) Team effort.
I am so proud of this team. They make mistakes sure. Lots of times awful mistakes. But they don’t give up. There were plenty of self-inflicted mistakes today but there was also big plays made by a variety of players to counterbalance those mistakes. They did not play a classic “clean” football game. But they created chaos every play and the Chargers just couldn’t keep up. They SWARMED and drowned the Chargers!!!

2) CJ got his mojo back! I said before the game that this was going to come down to which QB would put on his cape and make the plays needed to win. We saw CJ do just that today. He made some mistakes of course… but he also made some big time plays with his arm and legs against the #1 scoring defense in the league. It’s good to see good CJ back in time for the playoffs!

3) Elite defense and special teams.
Those two things travel in the playoffs. And they were rewarded by a running game that finally emerged in the 4th quarter when the opposing defense was worn out because the good guys kept making stops. The team we saw today can beat anybody. Warts and all.

What did not go well:

1) Penalties.
Same story as all season. Undisciplined unforced errors. Kind of goes with the relentless playing style. Would like to avoid the holding and tripping penalties though Tytus!

Herbert, 43.8% completion percentage, 4 picks, 40.9 passer rating.

Against Herbert, Goff and Allen this season, they have a combined 41.3% completion percentage, 9 INT and a 39.2 passer rating against the Texans D.

Play like that against the Swifties and they’ll have a chance.

Two things, SOS matters. The Chargers never stood a chance. Texans are battle tested. They've played the best in the league, went toe to toe with them... lost, but that's how you get better & not play down to your opponent all the time.

Cj... he's the straw that stirs the Texans KoolAid. I mean the defense was going to have a good game regardless. But I'm sure they finished stronger because the offense chewed clock & put points on the board. But because of Cj Stroud that talentless offense looks like an NFL offense, Bobby Slowik might get that Jets job, & no one wants to play the Texans now.

Hoping for KC, I prefer playing a team we lost to in regular season and Baltimore always makes me nervous.

IF the Texans beat KC it would be nice to be the ones to stomp out their hopes for three peters.
I think this team wants that game back.

I’m assuming buffalo and Baltimore wins. No matter where we go the crowd will be tough. But CJ has ice in his veins!

Houston had a rough second half of the regular season, but will now be one of the last eight teams standing after ending Jim Harbaugh's first season in Los Ang...

CJ Stroud slides like I break dance.

I am waiting for all those folks that said I appraised Diontae Johnson incorrectly, to tell me how he did as I know they saw something I did not.

Our draft spot dropped from 19 to 25...

Slowik gets a break from me...
This week.

Howard name called some but not the rest of oline.

Patterson/Scruggs/ Fisher looked pretty darn good vs Chargers defensive 7. Much better than I dared hope for.

I do not remember any significant injuries?

Cade Stover looked good.
Correct thread. I look for the arse thread but it was so far down I missed it.

Bal win / Buf win = Hou @ KC
Bal win / Buf loss = Hou @ Bal
Bal loss / Buf win = Hou @ Buf
Bal loss / Buf loss = Pit @ Hou

I dunno who was that guy out there today because it looked like Michael Vick !
Was that by design or out of necessity ?
Anyway I think our young QB has added a new dimension to his skill set.

I wonder how much impact having all our starting LBs on the field for maybe the first time this year had.
Not just the LBs but Foley and Autry back in the lineup together as well. This was the front 7 we were expecting but never got in the regular season. And they held the Chargers to 2.8 ypc and sub 50% passing.4 sacks, 9 QB hits and then 4 INTs by the DBs. Just dominant!

The Chargers were hoping to play bully ball but they couldn’t establish the run against the Texans 4-3. DeMeco has a defense that can match the physicality of other teams, that will travel in the playoffs!
