Week 5 Gameday Thread: Buffalo the Bills

And what memories do you have from HS football ?
Carpet burns from the turf at Tulley Stadium.

Since I knew you wouldn't look it up, teams that are blown out this season by 20 are 4-6 the following week. Eventually I think that number will be about 50%. Some will win. Some will lose. Facts + logic. Didn't you learn that in high school?

I’m not sure that proves or disproves either side. I think the argument was that teams that get their asses handed to them, play with more emotion the following game. A win or a loss in that game neither proves or disproves whether the players generally gave more effort, more focus, and/or with more emotion.

My take is yes they do…at the start of the game, but once it’s settled in…it’s more about big plays and other momentum shifts which cause the emotion -either positive or negative - which can indeed impact an outcome. And it can work in both directions.

Where is Tulley Stadium and who was this Tulley guy (or gal) ?
And please tell me more about your adventures at Tulley Stadium, I'm intrigued !

And how is that emotion measured? By their mood rings? This thread is getting dumber and dumber.

We're off the reservation now, so this won't hurt too much.

I think emotion is a very large factor in football games, and that is especially true at the los.
Unlike say golf or bowling, emotion can and does have a lot to do with the outcome of a football game.
Emotions are unrational. They will sink or swim with current conditions since they are ephemeral. Come out with these momentary feelings and the first whack down from a big play that challenges these ephemeral moods is a kick in the balls. It takes the wind out of emotions….why did all these “emotional” posters here get so pissed and out of whack when we didn’t bludgeon the Vikings? Did momentum from Viking big plays change their emotions? Did for the Texans.

Emotions are a very big part of golf. I watched an interview of Tiger Woods' caddie and he said he would tell Tiger a shorter yardage when he knew Tiger was amped up and hitting longer shots than he normally would.
So emotions can lose a game because they are an unrational adrenaline response to a more rational approach. Don’t think so? Tell a police officer to kiss your ass when he pulls you over for drag racing down Westheimer.

What?

As much as the Vikings game didn't matter in the long run, this one does. Bills will be a direct competition in the playoffs and for seeding. Losing to them will hurt come January. Hope the boys are locked in and focused. They haven't been once this season...
This is a must win.

Very impressive HS football stadium especially compared to the HS stadiums in my native
state of Missouri that I'm familiar with, but then I suppose that athletic stadiums in Texas are at a whole different level as compared to most other states.

Yea I know that stadium up in Allen is one of the states elite, or atleast one of the most expensive: I dunno wonder how many greenbacks they've got invested in that badboy ?
Internet tells me they built it for $82.2 mil. I remember reading something about how some concrete cracks developed a couple of years ago and they needed to do some repairs.

We have the 8th best offense and 5th best defense so far. I have to give it to Demeco, the way we’ve been playing I would have thought we’d be bottom 10. One things for sure, Texans need to stop allowing so many points. Out of the top 10 defenses, we’ve given up the most points.

Watching the season so far and how early we are in the season, I know how misleading these numbers are. For example, if NFL QBs completed NFL throws.. no way we're 5th best in defense at all.

I dunno if you ever played football, and I don't mean sandlot games but organized ball at the
scholastic or collegite level ? If you have then you know that should you get badly beaten
in a game well then if you and your teammates have any competitive spirits you are
very likely to come back in the next game looking for redemption ?
If you think that is bunk then you probably haven't played much ball, which is just fine
too.

I think it's dependent on resilience. If you're resilient, yes you'll likely come out fighting your arse off next game and be pissed off for greatness. But if you're not resilient, your confidence can definitely be shook just like a QB getting hit over and over and over again. Not every team or player responds the same way to adversity and that's basic psychology 101.

No the point is to say that just going "don't hold" isn't really going to accomplish anything as a major part of playing the position and playing it well is holding. The trick is doing it well and not being caught.
Thanks for confirming that you agree with cheating.

When things are going great, Allen is great, when **** is going sideways, he’s shown cracks…mentally that is. He’s Donovan Mcnabb 2.0 and This is the T.O. saga all over again except there will be no SB appearance for the Bills.

The Bills are trying to force Allen into a more assertive leadership role by bringing in more “team first” guys that won’t challenge him while subsequently making Diggs ……..and Ken Dorsey the scapegoats. Getting rid of the perceived “hinderance” to him truly ascending by tagging Diggs as the problem b/c of his “outburst” on the sideline last year. can’t have your skill guys emasculating your already mentally fragile franchise QB on the sideline in front of the other guys.

But show me an all time great QB who hasn’t had to deal with a “diva” skill guys. True alphas and leaders put those guys in their place. Last year when Diggs was apparently in Allen’s ass on the sideline for his **** play & doing the typical “get me the ball” routine, Allen just kinda sat there and took it….Bills brass decided that that was a bad look for Allen as the supposed leader of the team. And then there’s the narrative that Allen’s success was mostly b/c of Diggs. Had to get rid of him to “prove” Allen was going to be great whether Diggs was brought in or not..especially after they paid him all that money.

This will end badly for the Bills.
I agree however, I think Allen didn't say anything cuz he knew Di was correct

Unless DeMeco gets his **** together, and Mixon plays…this looks like a blowout to me. 38-20 Bills. I have some questions for Meco…who is having a sophomore slump of his own imho.

Why isn’t King elevated to play nickel and PR? Pitre can’t cover. He is sort of positionless, but a LB/s hybrid is probably the best fit. But asking him to play corner is dumb. Just like it was dumb last year to ask him to play deep safety.

Why is Sims still on the roster. King is clearly better then him. Sims has been a disaster. What kind of message is this sending?
Sims is on the roster for all of those Message Board fans who screamed how good he was at special teams.

If Texans can keep this close and not let Buffalo get a jump on them, they are a big chance to win this one.
CJ needs a big game as does Mixon.
I feel okay with our defense - they aren't perfect but neither are the Bills.
Gotta get down and dirty if you want to beat these guys.
This game is a real litmus test and will tell us a lot about our boys.
Go Texans!
So.. no fumble in our first series?

Literally everybody holds. If everybody is doing it, is it really cheating?

This is quite literally the first time I've ever heard of holding being cheating

It’s like speeding on the highway. Everyone is going 80 in a 65. Just don’t get caught.

The thing is about 20-30 years people noticed that red cars started to get pulled over more often. So what did the consumer do? Started buying another color. Try to go less noticeable. Now since people avoid red cars they are no longer the most popular color pulled over.

So in the NFL everyone is holding. Don’t be the person wearing RED GLOVES ON A WHITE JERSEY! LAREMY TUNSIL!!!

I don't know but LaPorte is refurbishing there high school also.

Interesting and would not have guessed that on either side of the ball.

You don't think that grabbing the opponents uniform to dislodge him or improve your own position is cheating? I thought breaking rules was cheating? Call it what you want, but illegally taking advantage of the opponent is not right. If you have to resort to that my respect disappears. Referring to a clown in pajamas in a scripted fake event...

When everybody's doing it, it ain't cheating my friend, it's blending in

Speaking about your notorious behavior among the coed population ?
Yip knew there was a good reason for that handle.
I was the short, gawkey non-athletic kid who could not get selected even in dodge ball; although I actually did well once the game began.
I couldn't offer girls a jacket so..

Got a 1959 Plymouth fury at age 14.. female prospects improved and sports didn't matter.

You owned Chistine !
Hey man, me thinks you really were notorius.

I wouldn’t call holding cheating per se. It’s against the rules and that’s why they have refs to attempt to enforce said rules. There are times when it’s done on purpose. If your opponent has a clear path to your QB and you reach out and grab the guy…that’s strategy not cheating. Your saving the QB’s neck. There are also times when it’s accidental. Lots of bodies colliding in there and frankly the refs Don’t have 10 eyes and 5 brains to process it all. I see tons of holds every game…for the most part I’m a fan of let them play. They could throw a hanky on every down if they got down to the letter of the law.

To me cheating would be something like engaging in point shaving or purposely trying to lose to gain some benefit such as a gambling issue. That’s cheating. Trying to gain an advantage over your opponent falls into a different area for me. Carry on.
