Hall of Fame Game Aug 1 2024

Boy, you think the NFL couldn't sink lower and now they're stopping the game because of rain.

Is this a first.
1976 Steelers vs College All Stars. I don't think this was necessarily the first game called for rain. Just the first one I can remember.

After tonight's performances, they aren't trading Mills.

If Mills continues to look like this….I’d extend him, since it would be at a very affordable price and highly unlikely that Caserio would get a better QB2 at that price. I believe Mills understands his roll in Houston and also knows if he was traded or played out his contract…..more than likely he’s QB2 on another team at a dollar amount that makes him realize Houston is home.

Positives, anyone?

It’s over?

Hutch had a nice showing.

Both Mills and Case combined for 77.3% completion percentage, 8.2 Y/A, 2 TD, no picks.
Still, you don’t want to see either past August, and you still can’t sell me on Mills being an adequate backup. Sure, he looked good against lesser talent, but dude still has just 5 wins in 26 starts. Could be easier for him with the firepower around him now, but I’d have to see it first, and again, I don't want to see either of those guys past August unless they’re finishing off a blowout game.

Though the run game was a zero (2.6 YPC), I liked what I saw of Akers. Doesn’t appear the Achilles will be an issue.

Caleb Bullock is the only one who stood out to me on defense.

And that’s about it. D gave up 5.7 YPC, and allowed 3 Bears QBs to complete 75% of their passes with 3 TD and no picks, and they allowed the Bears to zoom down the field in 58 seconds at the end of the 1st half.

Just one day closer to Sep. 8.

Bring in a young camp arm with potential.
I didn't finish this post.. Keenum is our 3rd string QB and he's 36 years old.. chances of him ever pushing for a serious regular backup role here (Mills here or not) are zero. They should be trying to find someone who can replace that role who is younger with potential, and has a chance to replace him.

I respect the heck out of Keenum and would rather see him join the coaching staff (He's a coach's son.), with Slowik leaving, I'd rather see him on that side of the staff. That is never going to happen with bringing in QBs like Boyle who are 29 yo camp arms.. who stink. How many good practice reps do we even get out of him?

Regardless, I bet you Case ends up on our staff somewhere after this season.

People hate on the guy over the whole Davis starter vs drafting Stroud debate.. that debate is over. That doesn't mean he's a crappy backup.. and look at the coaches and situation (scandal) Mills entered the league under. Sorry, I'd rather have Mills entering year 2 in slowick's system than bringing in someone else and having to bring them up to speed.

How did Kenyon Green do?

Is Mills looking like he could fetch us a draft pick in the 5th or higher?
id ask for a much higher asking price for Mills. He's young with good arm, has 2 yrs in system and we have no viable back up if he leaves. Rather keep him at this point and let him settle into being Strouds backup. He seems to be getting used to the idea and accepting it.

Hannah asked me to give you this. I think you know what to do with it.

A friend I know wants to know what this is. He doesn’t get out much.

Hall of Fame Game featured eight kickoffs, one touchback, a long return of 31 yards

The NFL’s new kickoff rules were put to the test for the first time Thursday night.

The Texans and Bears met in the Hall of Fame Game, with everyone watching the great kickoff experiment. One of the most entertaining Hall of Fame Games in memory ended because of inclement weather with 3:31 left in the third quarter. The Bears won 21-17.

The teams combined for eight kickoffs, with only one resulting in a touchback, though two other kickoffs reached the end zone and could have been downed for touchbacks. The receiving team takes over at its own 30-yard line after a touchback.
Of the seven kickoffs returned, the average starting position was the 25.6-yard line.

The longest return was a 31-yarder by Bears receiver John Jackson.

Each team had an illegal formation penalty, both of which were declined.

Texans punter Tommy Townsend held the ball on the tee for kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn to start the third quarter, with Townsend running off the field as soon as the ball was kicked.

It gave teams around the league a first look at what is supposed bring a dead play back to life, and it likely will be a work in progress for awhile as teams try to figure out what works and what doesn’t.
