NFL Random Thought of the Day

I'm not sure Peters would be an upgrade, but based on the Texans CB's play it sure wouldn't be a bad kicking of the tires to bring him in. He and the Raiders just didn't mesh so it wouldn't be bad to see how he responds to Ryans.....maybe he brings out the best in MP.
This article says missed tackles and "effort". I read that as not doing his best perhaps intentionally rather than his ability. Heated argument with his HC probably didn't help.

Just me guessing though.

Raiders coaches were reportedly frustrated with Marcus Peters' lack of effort.

We do need help.

Not just the Raiders. He doesn't mesh for long with any team. He has a reputation for being selfish and a locker room problem. He's been a talented DB who is now looking for his 5th team in 9 years. He's now 30 years old and still a head case who seems to have issues wherever he plays. No thanks!

BS call....including the (2) back judges looking at each other before a flag finally came out.
Extensively discussed in another thread. BS call, yes. But look at the all 22 and you can see Collins was not set for the required 1 second before Dell started his motion. But your comment on the referees was new to me. I'll have to take a look. If two referees were in agreement, imo this makes the call more legitimate. Still ticky tak, or BS, though.

Neither ref was reaching for their flag….one paused and just looked at the other. The ball was already out of CJ’s hand, caught by Dell, and CJ was moving downfield. That flag was really late.

Sorry, don't see what you are describing. The live feed only shows the two refs in the end zone very briefly. Stroud is at the 3 yd hash mark. The left ref seems to be looking at Stroud. The other ref appears to be looking down field. But neither is reaching for a flag. After the completion the live feed shows 2 refs discussing the call, one in a black cap with the head phone and #19 in a white cap. #19 seems to make the call and then the two discuss some more before the feed shifts to Stroud.

Are you watching all 22? I can only watch all 22 on my phone and can't stop action or advance frame by frame as I can on my tv.

Normally you would see a flag thrown immediately after the snap if any of the refs thought there was Illegal Motion. I didn't see any flags on the ground or thrown during the play, but maybe they did in another camera angle. It seemed more like they wanted to see how the 3rd and 15 went before declaring a penalty.

"For me, I see a lot of the same things happening around the league where guys aren't going through what I'm going through -- no flags, no fines, no suspensions," Jackson said Tuesday night in his first public comments since drawing his second suspension of the season last week.

"I'm not really sure why I'm being treated the way I'm being treated. I'm making regular football plays, nothing malicious, in my opinion," Jackson said. "I just want to know why I'm the only person going through what I'm going through."

The ordered paternity test has repeatedly been dodged by Jones. If he did not think that the claim was legitimate, he would have immediately offered to submit to the test to put everything to rest. The reason for the avoidance should clearly be self evident.

Defamation lawsuit against Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is re-filed
Published November 28, 2023 11:35 PM

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones faces a renewed claim that he and others defamed a woman who claims Jones is her father.

Via ESPN.com, Alexandra Davis re-filed her defamation complaint after a court order from last month dismissed part of her suit and gave her an opportunity to try to file a new document that would survive an inevitable challenge from Jones and others that the case should be thrown out of court.

The revised complaint claims that Jones, lawyer Donald P. Jack, and communications consultant Jim Wilkinson devised a plan to paint Davis as an “extortionist,” through a P.R. campaign “based knowingly on false statements and accusations.”

The prior order ruled that Davis was a “limited public figure,” triggering a higher bar to prove defamation.

“Throughout their smear campaign against Plaintiff, Defendants either knew the statements being made by them were false or they knew enough facts such that they should have entertained serious doubts as to the truth of their defamatory statements,” the new complaint contends.

The new complaint also accuses the defendants of “closely working with” Don Van Natta Jr. of ESPN.com, who wrote stories about the original lawsuit filed by Davis against Jones. The suit alleges that the defendants worked with other media members “to ensure all news outlets reported the statements Defendant Wilkinson had given to Van Natta.”

In the initial case, which is still pending, Davis seeks among other things to prove that Jones is her father.

The new complaint likewise alleges that the defendants attempted to tie Davis to a “‘conspiracy’ with others supposedly attempting to extort money from the Jones family.”

Most of the past stories on ESPN.com included a byline, with Van Natta’s name attached to multiple articles. The latest ESPN.com article has no byline at all, a development that likely arises from the new complaint’s effort to implicate Van Natta as a conduit for the P.R. campaign that Davis is attacking.

Last year, a judge in the initial case ordered that Jones submit to a paternity test. That test continues to be delayed.

You ever notice how billionaires never do the 23andme DNA tests? I have never heard a “you might be related to xxx billionaire.”

BTW - you shouldn’t either.

DNA tests in such cases are not performed by home test kits.........they are submitted to a certified forensic lab.

How can this be @CloakNNNdagger ?
Anything is possible......more appropriate question is how prudent is such an approach. The technique used to repair Rodgers' Achilles was developed a couple of years ago. The principle is that if you can avoid a direct tendon end to tendon end, there is less likelihood that the connecting sutures pull through the tendon tissue with the expected tension upon return to activity (like trying to sew wet toilet paper to wet toilet paper). The technique allows the tension to be taken off of the repair by anchoring one or two of the ends of the tendon to bone (1st video) or by placing multiple sutures at different distances from either tendon ends (the 2nd video). There are variants on this technique with the video below being the simplest. Even with this technique, it is not expected to be ready for strenuous activity short of 4 months........that would be about mid January for Rodgers.
Returning to play too soon because of unopposed enthusiasm/ego has its consequences, as many players/teams/doctors many times find out the hard way.

Code report for shoulder labrum tear and he will wear a brace and try to make it to the end of the season............

After the MRI, Stefanski was quoted as saying the "there is no structural damage."

So now even Cabot confirms what I deduced immediately. Nothing about injuries can be trusted coming from the Browns. The comments are entertaining.

Profit has driven the NFL since the 90s, it’s nothing new. Relocation of teams, skyrocketing values of franchises and the salary cap continuously increasing. Brady benefited from two of those directly.

I agree the emphasis on player safety is changing the game, but all sports have to/are evolving
Brady always signed cap friendly deals and was underpaid his market value. His play and his contracts basically gave the Patriots a cheat code (other cheats in there as well 😁) that no other team could match for 2 decades (minus Eli Manning which to this day baffles the hell out of me).

True profit has always driven the NFL but in the last 20 or so years the revenue of the NFL is up over 300%. The rate of increase by far exceeds any other sport globally. And after Covid, the owners are more protective than ever of their profits, IMO. Sure players will benefit financially too just like the owners but is the game actually evolving into a better on the field product? The latter will always be subjective and regardless I still enjoy the game itself.
The bubble is about to burst.. The only avenues for new revenue is international expansion or PPVing playoff games. They already sold their soul to the devil (gambling).

He should be asking questions. His latest suspension came when he delivered a hard hit to QB Dobbs who was being used as a RB on the play in question. SMH

Wonder why Jones didn't submit to the test and cut her out of the will.

After all apparently he settled with this girls mother and she agreed to a NDC, that should've been the end of the legal proceedings. But hey, I'm not a lawyer.

Please expand. Was he literally lined up in a position other than qb and the ball was snapped to another player, the qb on that play.

No, the qb was running and was well past the LOS

Yes, they were in the pistol formation the TE came in motion and stopped and went under center, then took the snap and pitched the ball to Dobbs.

It was a short yardage situation and the Vikings were trying a trick play

The way this reads, he was suspended not for hitting Dobbs, but for hitting, or leading, with the crown of his helmet, the same thing Perryman was suspended over.

His problem was leading with the crown of the helmet. Should have been flagged
How many times have you seen that exact same hit happen to a RB? There's a reason no penalty was called on that play.

Football isn't Football anymore. It's Flag Day.

Aren't we seeing, and complaining about, too many "arm" tackles, resulting in too many missed tackles. Perhaps this is a result of the new sissiffied game.
Yep, the NFL is turning into the arm tackle/block tackle league.

This isn't what this league was started out to be.

Caserio should look to pick him up.

Running some 2 TE sets with Ertz and Schultz would be optimal.

21 Personnel

Collins/Tank
Ertz/Schultz
Singletary

This would be optimal.

I am with Kareem, and Denzel for that matter. Certain players are targeted for suspensions and it’s not fair. On top of that, all these flags for what has been standard play over the decades is making the game more and more unwatchable. Do I still watch football? Yes. But is the game an enjoyable as it was in the golden era of the 70’s to 90’s? Nope. Not even close.

I would definitely acquire Ertz if possible. TE depth is non existent. Ertz has talent, he’s just never quite put it all together but I could see him being a weapon with this team.

I think this is just the Jets milking the media and trying to give false hope to their fanbase, which we all know is very prone to false hope.

Rodgers doing non-contact throwing drills in practice with the team is probably fine. Him trying to run around in a game and avoid tackles is likely problematic at this point. The Jets are 4-7, they could win every game left (not happening) and still miss the playoffs.

Tackle with your shoulders, then wrap up with your arms. Not you're freaking head. Nobody teaches tackling with your head.

What about when a player with the ball ducks as your trying to make a tackle. We see it all of the time and the defense always get a penalty called.

“Never quite put it all together”? He’s a 3x pro bowler, Super Bowl champion and holds the NFL record for receptions by a tight end (116). What is “putting it all together” supposed to look like?
