I really appreciate you Watson fans keeping me posted on all the DWatt news. I really didn't want to have to join a Browns "fan" board.

There's a better way to report this. No reason to be childish about what may have been an oversight.

As soon as the 2024 draft is done unless they give us more future picks
It would be one thing if we were being kept apprise of that team & how they're doing in relation to those draft picks.

But I'm just getting garbage about a player’s personal life. Mostly. I know it's related, but only in a round about way.

If you don't want to read content about Deshaun Watson, don't click on the thread, it's that easy. I'll never understand people griping about a thread that they themselves read and reply to.
If you don't want to read content about people complaining about the content... don't read.

I'm not griping about the thread, read my post again. It's the childish "btchslapping" that I'm complaining about.

Yep. Simple concept, but apparently hard to grasp for some folks.

The schadenfreude towards H-town's most despised perv amuses me. He earned every atom of derision. A lifetime supply of it as far as I'm concerned.

Some of us like to complain. Whether it's about other complainers or an actual football topic isn't relevant. It's all about the complaining. :)

Shocking that this is your opinion.

You're a mod/God. Just delete the thread.

lol I'm not immune. The forum has been a sort of catharsis for long-suffering Houston pro football fans. At least it has been for me over the years. :brickwall: :texan:

A lot of us have sat through years of Oilers and Texans horse manure, and are just grumpy. I'm hopeful, but the bar graph inevitably slides the other way for Houston football fans. It always has, and until it doesn't, it always will.

Pray to the football gods for deliverance. In another thousand years they might do something. :)

Garret has not been happy with the Browns for a while. Now that Watson has been given the keys to run the Browns, continuance should not surprise anyone.

Browns: Myles Garrett continues to show lack of leadership
By Randy Gurzi | May 25, 2023

Ahead of the 2020 season, Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns agreed to a five-year, $125 million contract extension and since then, he's blossomed into a superstar. He set the franchise record with 16 sacks that season, then tied that mark in 2022. In the process, he became the Browns all-time sack leader as well.

As impressive as he is on the field, he's never truly lived up to the leadership role that's often bestowed upon a player with a contract north of $100 million. And that's continued this offseason as he's been criticized for not showing up for OTAs this week in Berea while Cleveland installs a new defense under Jim Schwartz.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about Garrett's absence and said the workouts are voluntary, so they understand why he's not there. However, he also stated just before this that every day is important as they learn a new scheme and only free agent addition Rodney McLeod knows the defense.

While Stefanski took the high road, that's not how Garrett has always operated, which is why his leadership is typically questioned. Garrett has been quick to throw coaches and teammates under the bus — and even went after the fans when they left during a complete meltdown in Week 2 of the 2022 season against the Jets.

Fans have often excused Garrett's desire to call out others by saying he's a leader but that's also not 100 percent true. Calling Perrion Winfrey out for being immature while getting yourself benched for not following team rules is not leadership. Neither is berating a coaching staff for not making adjustments but then getting mad when Baker Mayfield says it's not cool to beat a dude over the head with a helmet.

It's also not ideal to have a new coaching staff come in — after he was vocal that the old defensive coordinator was the issue — and not have their best player be there to help the transition.

Of course, since Tony Grossi is the one saying he doesn't approve of Garrett missing OTAs, it will be met with backlash but the fact remains that Garrett continues to expect everyone to be accountable and work to get better, as long as he can do things his way.

The Browns/Schwartz analogy of the MLB pitcher to the NFL defensive line is a real head scratcher. Pitchers are essentially a lone wolf on an island. With a defensive line, the unit's success is based on chemistry and cohesion amongst the linemates. It is difficult enough to develop/maintain such traits when dealing with the typical 6 man rotation. An 8-9 man rotation?? Such a rotation his had some, but very limited success in the NFL.........examples being Eagles, Patriots and Bills in limited number of seasons. It requires a definite stable of talented quality players able to work well in concert......or things can go south quickly. The Browns??????

Jim Schwartz on Browns’ defensive line: Keep them fresh throwing 100 mph fastballs

Posted by Michael David Smith on June 1, 2023, 4:43 AM EDT

New Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz thinks Major League Baseball is onto something with the trend of pitchers throwing fewer innings, but throwing harder fastballs.
Schwartz said he’s going to rotate his defensive linemen more than they’re accustomed to, meaning they may each play fewer snaps, but they’ll be more fresh and able to go harder on every play.
https://www.texanstalk.com/https:
“We’ll roll through eight, maybe even nine guys at times trying to keep guys fresh and keep ’em throwing a 100-miles-per-hour fastballs,” Schwartz said, via the Akron Beacon-Journal. “You guys will get tired of my baseball analogies, but a lot of the D-line is a lot throwing relief in the major leagues now. These guys coming in from the ‘pen throwing a 100, 101. . . . The tempo that we want those guys to play, we’re going to need to rotate fresh troops in.”
Schwartz said that because they’re currently in the non-contact portion of the offseason, it’s too early to see how his players are going to do with his call for a higher tempo of play.

“It’s too soon to really get a judge of where we are when you’re not full speed,” Schwartz said. “There’s things that you can do with walkthroughs. There’s things you can do with tempo and things like that. But to really play defense, you need to be physical. That’s the No. 1 thing. You need to be physical, and we can’t do that now.”

Schwartz has always been a proponent of analytics, and the analytics movement in baseball has been behind the trend of starting pitchers throwing harder and finishing fewer complete games. Schwartz thinks going harder but playing less applies to defensive linemen, too.

If the Browns want to trade him to the Texans, sign me up.

Deshaun Watson as Consequential as any Player this Season
In a list of 10 offensive players that could define the 2023 season, Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson wasn't included. Given his gravity in a brutal conference, he has to be one of the biggest stories of this coming season.
Cleveland Browns

CLEVELAND BROWNS
Whether Deshaun Watson continues to struggle or he reclaims his former glory, the Cleveland Browns go as he does, making him one of the most pivotal players in the NFL. For Gilberto Manzano of SI to leave him off his list of offensive players who will define the upcoming year is preposterous.

The prevailing question regarding the Browns is the level Deshaun Watson will be able to reach this season.

The Browns have structured their team around the expectation Watson will be a franchise quarterback, capable of leading them to the Super Bowl. If he's able to get back to the level of play he showed in 2020, the Browns are immediately a legitimate contender for the Super Bowl. Likewise, if the six games Watson played last year were indicative of what the Browns will get at the quarterback position, they are irrelevant and digging themselves out of a sizable hole of their own making.

Watson will almost certainly end up being somewhere in the middle with the hope he will gain confidence and improve over the course of the year reaching a crescendo in the postseason, which only serves to add to the intrigue. The AFC North looks brutal with four teams that have playoff aspirations and winning the division is the only surefire way to qualify for the postseason. The conference is loaded and there will be a no holds barred bloodbath between potentially eight contestants for the three wildcard berths.

If the Browns make the postseason, someone else can't. That becomes even more impactful if they are able to secure the division title, their first for the Browns since 1989. That could result in Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals or Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens missing out on the postseason.

The New York Jets with Aaron Rodgers and Chicago Bears with Justin Fields are the only other two teams in the NFL that have this singular focus on their season. They're both top four on this list, deservedly even as the lack of quality in the NFC lowers the stakes for Fields and the Bears. Nevertheless, it's a potential turning point for a Bears franchise that has been searching for a franchise quarterback for the last half century or once. The Browns and the Jets are teams expected to be in the playoff hunt and so much revolves around how well their respective quarterbacks perform this year. Their cursed histories at the position only adds to the level of scrutiny.

Perhaps the self-inflicted circumstances that prompted Watson's situation make it an undesirable story, but purely from a football standpoint, it's impossible to deny the monstrous impact Watson will have not only on the Browns but the division and the AFC as a whole.
