I don’t think that would be the case for the Texans with Pierce and Singletary in front of him. At 5’-8 1/2” and 188 pounds…..Devon would be better used as a future 3rd down back who could benefit with a FB like Koepke on the field with him at the same time.
But it was with A&M which is what you asked

Bijan is Deebo in reverse. He is an RB who can double as a slot receiver. There isn't another RB in this draft doing that. Plus you get a 5th year option. Look at what the Panthers got for trading McCaffery. Draft a receiver later. Hell if you are hell bent on drafting a QB this year draft a receiver in the 1st round next year. There is no Bijan in next year's draft. There are equivalent receivers.

Blake Corum ranked higher in '22.

As much as I like Robinson, we need to take the best WR or Edge available at that spot. Then the best edge or receiver that we didn't take at twelve, we take them at 33. Possibly even move up back in to the bottom of the first to do it. A case COULD be made that if we took Robinson at twelve, we would also be getting the WR since he can play the slot.

I wonder how Bijan would have done soley as WR at Texas.

Mayer is just as exciting a prospect at his position and has terrific hands.
A TE is a (rookie) QBs best friend.
A big target close to the line of scrimmage will help a short QB.
Mayer doesn't have special traits. He's not big or fast like Pitts. He's not ultra athletic like Tony G or Gates. He's just solid at a position that has alot of prospect. I wouldn't draft Mayer in the 1st rd.

Where besides PFF? I looked at 8 different pre-season rankings for 2022. Not one had Corum ranked higher. In fact the highest Corum ranked was 3. He averaged around 7 or 8. Bijan had a better season, catches more passes for double the average of Corum. Corum had 80 receiving yards last year and 41 of those were on one play. So tell me again how much of a dual threat he is.

That is performance scoring, not draft ranking.
I don't think we're going to see many more Bijan Robinsons. They're going to play WR or CB. Anything but a position that's been devalued by the NFL. Clemson LB Trenton Simpson played RB for a couple of seasons in HS. 6'2" 230 lbs, he would have been in the power I 45 years ago. Doesn't want anything to do with playing RB. Same thing with Devon White. Great HS RB, no just LB in college for me.

I loved watching the great RBs growing up. They're dinosaurs, now.

maybe not the pure numbers of elite dudes, but there will still be dudes who like to touch the ball and have a body that is tough to put anywhere else. R. Sanders from Arkansas is 6'2 225 4.4 dude who runs, catches, and blocks as the number 1 RB prospect next year.

Then there are those dudes like Blake Corum and T. Henderson where their body dictates that they RBs.

I post this here as there was a question earlier if Pittsburgh would trade up to 12 for an offensive tackle.

My preference is as follows:

1. Lukas Van Ness
2. JSN
3. Trade down to somewhere before #20 to add more picks

Rich Schmidt

I am getting a Will Fuller vibe on JSN, good player, but made of glass. Not sure I would take him at 12, but when he plays, I bet he will be good.
