Welcome Home, DeMeco Ryans

Fortunately it appears that our new HC agrees with us:

"Yes, we want a great quarterback but we need a great offensive line, running back, wide receivers... We all play together. It's not all on one guy's shoulders."

So many people are obsessed with using a 2023 first round on a QB. If they do, fine. But if they don't? I'm okay with it.
Well if he wants a great QB, where will he find one?

Will be live here. You can just sit there and wait for it to start.

I am absolutely STOKED after watching this! Talk about a natural speaker and in total command of the podium. This press conference right here is a really good indicator of how well he speaks and carries himself among a group of people. Pressure? What pressure?!

Let’s go Texans!!!

It wouldn’t be a reach at all. They have four quarterbacks in this years draft that NFL ready. Another thing defensive player flame out too. Meaning they’re not a for sure hit. Even though Clowney and Williams were solid, they weren’t big time different makers either.

You do know the offensive line played a lot better this past season. Mills was protected pretty darn good. Run pro is where they struggled the most.

New coaches and new schemes completely change the dynamics. If they want to sit him a year - i.e. Mahomes, Rodgers, Brady, etc. - that's fine. But expecting/demanding he start game 1 is shortsighted. I'll leave that up to the professionals to decide.

Besides, "NFL ready" is purely subjective. I'm not sure if a 180 lb QB is ever truly ready. lol

As far as defensive players, we've now got a guy that will certainly play a big factor in finding defensive talent that will not flame out. I've got confidence in DeMeco. I hope you do, too.

Justin Herbert came into a team that finished 5-11.
His offensive line is basically two starters (at best).

That line was ranked dead last by PFF

As long as the rookie is ready, he can play.

The Texans offensive line looks like All-World as compared to that line.
They had the Texans ranked as the #23 OLine, and we all know that's wrong. The only reason the Oline was ranked that high that season was because of WD-40's hero ball.

And so many are obsessed with drafting what y’all wants. And just like you im a fan so whoever they draft. I’m all onboard. Been that way since day one.

It’s just seems as some people are only stuck with their way and only their way.

I didn’t want to draft a QB when Lovie and his crew was here.

My opinion now is DeMeco can do whatever the heck he wants and I am on board.

I have faith in 59.

Him and Carr will take a big chunk of that cap they kept bragging about.
I really dont want Rodgers, but my reply to taking a huge chunk out of it.

Whats the point of having it if you never dip into it?

Im not into following the cap but as long as whoever they bring in at a heavy hit is only a space filler Id imagine they are off the books and gone by the time it comes due to keep the valuable future players that emerge.

I was asked just the other day on here about how long would I have him sit. I said 6-8 games but an entire year would suffice IMO. Personally I wouldn’t want to go into the season with Mills at the helm. Bring in a quality quarterback like Brissett or even Jimmy G to be your stop gap.

Lol you’re looking at Young’s size but the kid can ball. He became the starter because he was going to work on the staters the year before becoming the starter. Saban and crew saw something special in him despite his size. And look how is panned out for them.

My pick would be Stroud, he checks all the measurable IMO. Some people are knocking him because of the talent he’s playing with. Man those two defensive studs aren’t playing with scrubs and they’re on elite teams.

I don't know, a box of Cracker Jacks? :um:

Where the heck do you think? Dumb questions earn dumb answers.
It was an honest question.
It would be the same question I would ask him.
"Coach, you said you want a great QB. I'd like to know where you're going find him?"

Or perhaps "how do you intend to find him?"

So you're saying the Chargers offensive line was ranked too high? 🤣

In a more serious note; PFF grade the offensive linemen on whether they win or lose their block (among other things).
A QB playing hero ball has little to no effect on their grades.

I understand it was his first day on the job and everything is new and he's going through OJT. I thought DeMeco sounded every bit just like an LB coach or a DC. Demeco is now the HC. If Demeco hires coordinators who have never been coordinators before then that will be a reason for concern for me. Red Flag. Everyone in the organization now looks up to DeMeco. He has to motivate the entire organization, not just the players.

Based on the little I know about Munchak, if they are going to run a shanny/Kubiak style WCO with the outside zone and bootlegs being a staple, I would rather go with an ol coach who has specialized in that system.

No knock on Munchak…I just don’t know if he would be the best guy for that type of system based on some of the things he said here: https://steelersdepot.com/2014/04/mike-munchak-speaks-outside-zone-blocking/

Now if they are going hybrid or some type of power scheme I’d be down with Munchak for sure. I don’t know who still runs that old style zbs so they probably will go more hybrid if they go that route.

Mike has more knowledge and experience than most of us will ever have about OL so I could be way off base. Would not complain about hiring him because regardless he’s a good coach.
It's been my experience that when dealing with someone who is intuitively good at something that they have a difficult time teaching / explaining it. It's instinctive to them and they tend to be unable to comprehend how it's difficult for others to grasp. That was one of the takeaways I had about Munchak after reading that article. He might've very well excelled in such a scheme due to his natural talents, but I don't think he would be an effective teacher of it.

Speaking from experience as someone that has had to jump from speaking to small groups (ten to twenty) to very large groups (hundreds to a few thousand) it’s different on a whole lot of levels. It sounded to me like it was just his first time to do it and it was done pretty well for a first shot. Better than mine for sure. He fumbled over a few words but his energy was there and it came through. Juxtapose that presser to Cully. Clearly that was Cully’s first and he never stopped sounding completely lost and way over his head.

Public speaking is hard. While I can control a room when I speak, I have rarely felt comfortable doing it. Takes practice. I am also certain that if I had been on that podium knowing I had cameras on me and thousands of people listening too, I would have been nervous too.

I was looking at the analyst in white pant suit. Someone tell me what the two guys said...
Did that one idiot that spoke after David Carr really just say that DeMeco’s “street credibility” is going to help that defense? Wtf is this, high school?

OK watching the press conference..... I get the feeling Demeco is going to ride it out with mills atleast for this season. The way he spoke about the QB position and the way he talked about developing players. I got that vibe.... anyone else?
I got the same vibe. Hell, I wouldn’t mind him signing a decent FA QB while he stacks both sides of the ball this year through the draft and FA. DeMeco doesn’t appear to be the type of guy that will force anything, as he just oozes confidence. We’ll have our franchise guy in a couple of years. Let’s let Nick and DeMeco build this thing the right way!

If you do not think NFL player cred is important, you are incorrect. There are already articles about free agents interested in playing for Ryans and others having increased opinion of Houston because of his hire.

If his staff can turn Davis Mills into an adequate starting quarterback I will be amazed but really glad. My concern is we may not have an option to get a franchise quarterback going forward if Mills is not the guy.

That’s NOT what he said. He literally said what’s going to help the Texans defense is DeMeco’s “street cred.” Again, Wtf is this high school?

I’d love to read an article about that quick google search didn’t turn up much, any chance you could drop a link?

If DeMeco does his job the way everyone hopes he does, then we're not picking as high next year unless Cleveland caves horribly. That's my issue. This is the year we have the draft capital to do it right, but I'm just so wary of the top rated QBs. But, next year we might have to sacrifice some serious draft capital to get one of the hot ones.

It's a dilemma.

The popular kids change, the cycle.. in general... doesn't.

Look at social media and its popularity even among adults..... its success is no coincidence.

At least we got the cool letterman jackets though.

Saw that earlier before the press conference. They all look genuinely happy. The hiring of DeMeco just feels so right.
Love this hire. A fiery competitor unlike the wilting flower that was Lovie Smith. A superb track record building the defense in SF and getting the most out of his players. Part of a winning system & culture. History with the org and wants to be here. Even if Ryans flames out and busts, I will never think hiring him was a bad idea at the time.
