Probably very little.

If anything they are gonna do what they want to do and if it happens to agree with the will of the fans they will say they did it for the fans.

I don't have a huge issue with the uniforms but I would like the red jersey to to be the primary home jersey is all. The rest of the crap from ownership on down they can throw in the trash.

Black uniforms with the red helmet and red lettering outlined in white would look cool.
God no. So sick of everybody and their brother doing black.

They need to update it, it has been 20 years lol
Update how though? Unless they change color scheme, or go with red being the primary color over blue, there's not a whole lot they can do. I'm just afraid there's going to be a bunch of feedback of people wanting Columbia blue in the mix, which I am not in favor of at all. I mean I've already seen a pic of Toro on Twitter this morning in it.

IMG_20221231_104254~2.jpg

They can't get enough people in the stands to buy hot dogs and beer, so maybe if they change uniforms they can make some money. What's the saying around here, marketing firm with a football division? And what's worse is that they're not very good at marketing either.

I picked oiler colors and deep steel blue. I really don’t dont mind the current uniforms, I just don’t care about red helmets. They look tacky as hell. Maybe Cal would be willing to buy the Oiler rights since he seems to be “open” to fan suggestions.

Either way, I let them know that we don’t give a rat’s ass about uniforms. We want a competent coaching staff and less focusing on marketing over the on field product!

I noticed that Academy and Lids have been selling a lot of different Oilers merchandise lately. Not that it means anything and I’m sure that ship has sailed but it is just odd.

I say there is no way that the Texans ever own the rights to the Oilers.

EVEN IF an Adams were ever willing to sell.... McNair wouldn't be willing to pay the astronomical sum to do so.

I'm not even one that claims they are cheap.... just don't believe it would make financial sense from an ownership standpoint

Well, I saw a whole bunch of Columbia blue Texans T-shirts being worn today at the game. Every team shop I stopped at was sold out of those too. The Jumbotron showed Toro in a bunch of new clips wearing the Columbia blue t-shirt as well. Something’s definitely up…

I don’t know dude. I see a whole bunch of people wearing the Columbia blue Oilers jerseys at every Texans game. I’m almost willing to bet an entire paycheck on majority of the fan base choosing the Oilers over the Texans being the home team in Houston if it was a real option. It’ll never happen though.

Do they by chance have a color called 'winning'. Change the colors all you want but any color will do as long as spend d the energy and money toward winning some games.

Oh, I have no doubt that the fan base would embrace it.

The question is. Lets say they sold the roght and history of the Oilers to the Texans for 100 million (just to keep it simple) make the Texans AT LEAST 100 million in that purchasing of rights alone.?

Texans fans that are going to buy jerseys etc.... they will buy them regardless of the blue. You aren't likely going to increase sales merchandise just on that decision alone... so I don't see it. Thats even considering hell has already frozen over and the Adams family wants to sell.

New uniforms does not equal more wins. Something about “ Lipstick on a Pig”
Lipstick on a pig might be just the thing needed to soften up those in Tennessee that could get them to sell the rights.

A pig they haven't gotten to know already is worth its weight in gold there.

Oilers merchandise would not only sell well in Houston, it would sell well nationally as well. Especially in the social media and internet age.

That's going to really ******* suck if they switch to Oilers colors just to appease people who can't let that trash ass team go. Not saying I don't get the loyalty to the players, Earl is still one of my favorite's all time, but the owner gave the city of Houston double rods as he moved the team to hillybillyville, and the family ain't about to let anything Oilers come back to Houston. Not to mention a lifetime full of failures and disappointments with that franchise while they were here. Not that the Texans are any better mind you, but **** them and their colors.

But yeah, I don't doubt that a ton of the over 40 crowd, the only ones who can even remember they played here, will pee their pants getting to wear powderish blue/whatever version they use, again.

Overcome the asking price it would take for the Adams family to sell making the purchase worth it?.. I doubt it

Never was a fan of the name or uniforms. Color Scheme is ok.

But putting lipstick on a pig ain’t gonna make me get into bed with it.

Way too many questions about uniforms and not enough about actual football on that survey.

Same. I told them to see if Jim Crane would be Cal’s “Big Brother” so he could learn the importance of winning. Winning fuels everything. Winning cures all ills. Without winning it’s all just rearranging deck chairs as the ship sinks.

Right. I guess if it comes down to it I don't care if they wore pink with purple polkadots and called themselves the Houston P***ies as long as they were winning, always being in contention and at least getting to some AFCs or SBs. Win and I'm a huge P***y fan

There was a time when all I wanted was the Oilers back but that time has passed and I wouldn’t want them to assume that identity even if it was offered free of charge. The window has closed on that era and now it would only resonate with old fans like me who are the past and not the future.

The thing is “Texans” was a shiite name and Red/White/Blue was a safe, generic color combo. All of it is so pre-fab and ”plastic” it makes me want to puke and always has. “Liberty White Kickoff” “Battle Red” alternates. It’s fake, made-up tradition and the only reason it was accepted (I think) initially was fan optimism and the feeling that the team was on the right track. 3 years in that went out the window but Kubiak and jettisoning Carr made them respectable and the sense that progress was being made returned. Bill O’Brien snuffed that out when he badly coached and blatantly mismanaged the team into worse shape than they were in 2002. I really think that. David Culley’s team would have had a hard time beating the 2002 Texans. Lovie’s team would get creamed by them. Now that the entire world can look at Cal’s team and see it for what it is (trash) they are trying to find a way to rebrand. Pitiful. 20 years in and they have to start over with a cleaned-up or brand new identity.

All they have to do is win. Winning should be the only thing they lose sleep over. The Astros were a joke much of the time and irrelevant most of their existence but Crane comes in, makes changes, endures the necessary losing, and the culture does a 180. It’s not impossible. Changing the day of the week they wear red hats though isn’t going to get it done. Win or lose and GTFO as far as I care. Too many other things to spend my money and time on and I’m not alone there I suspect.

The Astros built a winning organization that still works today. The Texans have built nothing.

You can sum up all these frigging posts about the comparisons like this: Astros good, Texans bad. Let's leave it like that and move on. Christ, you're tainting the Astros by even mentioning them in the same sentence with the Texans.

Can we move on from these horseshit comparisons? It's getting old.

Besides which, baseball and football organizations are two different animals.

Disagree. The Astros comparisons show you so clearly how an owner can change everything by just being focused on the right things. “Bottom Line Bud” was a cheapskate who came around to valuing talent in his later years but had crap facilities and was unwilling to pay for a top tier coach. John McMullen was another bottom line guy who just wanted profits and seemed to have no interest in the success of the team outside of what it meant to his bank account. He owned the Astrodome lease and so got to feast on all that parking and concessions cash from Oiler games. He was a greedy man in a business that didn’t penalize him for being bad so he barely bothered to build anything here. Drayton was the closest thing to Bob/Cal we ever had. Drayton ran his baseball team like he ran his grocery stores. Watch that budget. Don’t take any chances. Keep it family friendly and take the slow road to as much success as you can afford. He got bold a couple of times but only when home town discounts were on the table. Mostly he just wanted everyone to have a good time whether the guys won or lost and he sure liked changing those uniforms.

Crane is an owner I can get behind because he knows that success on the field turns the engine. That’s what Cal needs to aspire to and if he can’t then he should stick to surveys and coming up with new gimmicky theme days. Maybe get somebody to write a new Texans song or something.

I could see keeping the dark blue and bringing the Columbia (Bluebonnet?) blue in as an accent color maybe but what difference would any of it make? They’re not going to rename the team and they’re not going to change the colors out too drastically so again with the deck chairs.

What I told them in the survey is that a team needs to go all in on one color (ex. Jets, Vikings), have a unique color (ex. 49ers gold, Tampa pewter), or have a unique color combination (ex. Bears midnight blue and orange, Packers yellow and green) to stand out.

The Texans do none of the above. White, navy blue, and medium red are not unique or interesting. It may be a trivial thing, but I would feel like the organization was moving in a brighter direction if they were bold about redefining their identity.

From the beginning, with name, uniform, head coach, and first draft, this organization has been about playing it safe and conservative.

This is a reflection of the founder and owner, Bob McNair. IMO, he was a true conservative, not just in a political sense, not even meant as negative either.

The problem is many fans including on this MB dont want to go through the necessary losing. They didn't want to go through it with Crane either, but Crane stayed strong to his beliefs during the hard times. Will Cal be strong like Crane was? Not a chance. These fans would rather be entertained than go through the pain of a rebuild done right.

Couldn't have said it better...& its not the over 40 crowd, its the over 50 crowd simply b/c most of them are the only ones who can really remember the Luv ya' Blue Oilers..which is the only real version of that team in its entire existence here that had a legit SB window for a while.

I'd be tremendously disappointed if the Texans brass...in an attempt to appease a small sect of this fanbase adopted the Oilers' colors.

Loyalty to the players is 1 thing, trying to completely recreate the same feel of a franchise that wasn't even all that successful by adopting the colors of inter division rival is lame.
