Houston Texans Survey

That's going to really ******* suck if they switch to Oilers colors just to appease people who can't let that trash ass team go. Not saying I don't get the loyalty to the players, Earl is still one of my favorite's all time, but the owner gave the city of Houston double rods as he moved the team to hillybillyville, and the family ain't about to let anything Oilers come back to Houston. Not to mention a lifetime full of failures and disappointments with that franchise while they were here. Not that the Texans are any better mind you, but **** them and their colors.

But yeah, I don't doubt that a ton of the over 40 crowd, the only ones who can even remember they played here, will pee their pants getting to wear powderish blue/whatever version they use, again.

Ain’t that the f’en truth. Except it’s the over 60 crowd that wants it.

Let the Oilers and their colors die.

The whole idea of the Texans color scheme was to match the colors of the State of Texas flag. I doubt they go with the Columbia Blue. My bet is they go with red helmets with red jerseys and white pants. Blue pants would look awful with red. They are equal colors battling for dominance.

I think the team with the worst record should have to wear the Tampa Bay creamsicles jerseys at home and the away games they have to wear the Eagles throw back that was blue and yellow.

I personally think the all deep steel blue is the best combo, along with the blue color rush unis. That red helmet/jersey with white pants combo looks tacky as hell. I wouldn't even mind red helmet/jerseys, and red pants combo, but the white pants makes it all look cheap and tacky. I also hate the blue jersey white pant combo. Get rid of the white pants!

I beg to disagree, but my fashion sense may not be great
I remember when the Texans wore the Red jersey, blue pants combo against the Jags back in 2016. That combination was awesome. I just wish they would have used the blue socks instead of the red ones.

The only reason that “Oilers” hangs around is that it comes from a time when teams names were often linked to the identity of the city. For better or worse our local identity was Oil and the team had an identity (flawed as they were). The other half of the equation is that the McNair’s chose a bland, generic name and then spent 20 years failing to turn it into a name we could embrace. “Texans” is as bad a name now as it was in 2002. They’ve done nothing to overcome that and bad names can be overcome and transformed into good names. MLB, the NFL, NBA, and NHL are full of team names that sucked until they didn’t. They sucked until they became icons. Texans never superseded Oilers so it’s still a weak-ass name.

I’d like to see them ditch those wanna-be Broncos styled uniforms too. The shoulder accents have always bothered me. It’s like the whole time Bob was making decisions he was just looking at other teams and aping what they were doing.

That was the game Os was benched early after throwing 2 picks and Savage won the game. They did have the red leggings, but some wore high white socks over them

I'm a member of this crowd. ( Just turned 60).

I'm for letting anything related to the Adams family die a quick death.

Agreed. I still like my idea of nothing but black, white and varying shades of gray. No color at all. Metal Grey helmet and the bull logo is in stark black and white. Dark grey jersey, light gray pants. Switch the colors on the pants and jerseys whenever. Or, just make the players wear their pants on top and their jerseys around their legs. It certainly wouldn't affect their performance. :)

I still think the White Jersey and blue pants are the best look. Not sure how it would look with the Red helmet? Maybe, maybe a white helmet. But they need a redo on the logo and the general look of the uniform.

I like your idea.

It certainly wouldn't be the current bland

Just a few years away from that myself and I feel the same way. Like I said before that time passed. The window actually closed when Bud chose to change their team's name and was clear about it not being available for any other team. He could have started over Art Modell/Ravens style and moved on but he wanted to stick it one last time to the city of Houston. He may have regretted moving at some point. It doesn't really matter. He chose to keep the history and the name and so it's over. Done. If we weren't going to get the Oilers history and colors back on day one of the McNair's new team then to my mind the decision was made and it was time to move on. It's not about getting any of that back. It's about the failure of the current team to do what needs to be done to bury that memory and "close the wound" by eclipsing the old team.

When they were considering names for the new Houston team, I was all for the Apollos. The logo could have been Neil Armstrong's boot print from the surface of the moon.

I didn't care for Apollos but I did like the idea of trying to embrace the "Space City" element here. Once you get past the energy sector and the oil connection that's the next closest thing Houston has to an identity and it aligns with the other two major sports teams here. Astros, Rockets, __________.

"Texans" is generic crap.

I think space themed, bayou themed, or livestock/rodeo themed would be uniquely Houston. I never liked the name Texans. It's, as you said, generic crap.

"What's a Texan? How do I become a Texan?"

Establish residence? Get a drivers license? Hell I don't know, maybe buy a PO Box. It's just not the kind of identity you build a team around. Of all the regional personas out there who uses that as a sports team name? "The New York, New Yorkers" would probably be the single biggest regional persona in the US and nobody up there did that. California "dudes"? Nope. No Californians in the NFL (or MLB, NBA....) The idea seems to hinge on the belief that Texans are interchangeable with Cowboys. but the league already has a team called the Cowboys so all the trappings of that identity are taken.

Bulls would have worked. They could even keep the mascot more or less and the logo too.

It should have been the Texas Toros for so many obvious reasons. Same logo and even colors considering the Texas flag.

But, no, our owners are the literal definition of milquetoast, so they went with the blandest, least exciting name without even the slightest hint of boldness. I'm pretty sure Cal thinks carbonation is spicy.

If they change the name to anything it better be the Houston Tacos.

That would solve all our problems.

No sane person has ever said.... "Tacos suck".

Everyone loves tacos unless there is truly something deeply wrong with their mind or soul.

But there was once the Dallas Texans that became a pretty good team so the name must have been cool

Funny story about the Dallas Texans (KC Chiefs). They moved because the NFL expanded with the Cowboys. Their first choice was to put a new franchise in Houston (i.e. the Houston Cowboys!!), but Bud Adams pulled strings and kept Rice Stadium from being an option because he did not want any local competition for his new AFL franchise. So the NFL decided it was more trouble than it was worth and awarded Dallas with the new franchise, and the AFL team then moved to Kansas City and rebranded to the Chiefs.

The first 3 seasons of Oilers existence (1960-1962) saw them as AFL top dogs. 2 Championships, lost in the 1962 Championship game when the Oilers and Texans went 2 OT’s before the Texans won. The 1961 team set some AFL records for offensive production. It was just a shame that the organization only delivered these type of results in their first 3 seasons.

Maybe the Texans could finally be that competitive by 2025 for the City of Houston. Hail, they could celebrate 65 years of professional football and maybe introduce new uniforms b/c it may not be such a joke, by then, for the organization to celebrate something like this.
