Week 17 - Jags vs Texans: The "Why Win?" Bowl

Not having the pick yet would seem to be a pointless exercise. And there can be no trades until the beginning of the new league year.
My real question is whether or not there is a league rule against any discussion between teams prior to a certain date
I think discussion can occur at any time but no trade becomes formal until the timeline set by the collected bargaining agreement and signed off by NFL.

Significantly, value of a pick should increase as draft draws closer.

For example, Panthers verbally agree to give rounds 1 and 2 in 2023 and round 1 in 2024 for 1.1. No handshake or written.

Then with Houston on clock day one of draft, Seattle offers both round ones and their second round two for 1.1

Frankly I'm not sure if any of this will really matter. We could take the first pick he craters on us. We could take the fourth pick and he craters. Even the eleventh pick can crater, so in my opinion, sit back, get some popcorn and enjoy the show. There isn't a darn thing we can do about it and it will play out the way its going to. If we could actually influence what will happen that would be different. Me, I think I would prefer us to have pick number one, but it certainly wouldn't be a bad thing to have pick two its all a crapshoot anyway. (when I say we I mean the fans)
Texans select Stroud with 1.1 and Young with Browns pick. In 2024 we trade up for best QB we can get and let all three battle Mills for starter.

🙂

What has me down on Caserio is Stingley. He didn’t either care or do research regarding his injury history. I don’t think they fire Lovie I think they do fire Pep. But regardless, Caserio must draft well this time.
I think Nick researched and still did not care. Another reason I want him gone.

That's what I thought, but it's the Texans and Caserio :kitten:

edit: It was supposed to insert the quote from Mr. Tex that they would get an impact player no matter what

Based on tonight watching the bowl games, I think Stood would be the better choice. I would have really liked toward Levis in a bowl game. I suspect that he may be the best one. Reminds me of Josh Allen a lot

I wasn't asking you, I was asking @steelbtexan because he has embraced the tank all year
As long as Lovie and company are in charge I don't have to embrace the tank. The team will be bad. Good news is Lovie knows talent and I wouldn't care if he stayed 1 more yr. Then draft the QB and move forward.

As if Cal/Caserio decide this is the way to go and it is what I would do, Then I'm trying to trade down from 1-1 and 1-12. Load up with picks in 2024 plus add a couple of 2nda.

I would trade with Carolina tomorrow for 1-1 if they gave me Chinn, pick #6, a 2nd, a 2024 1st, 3rd and 5rh.

I'm changing my routine. Instead of my pregame lunch at the normal tex-mex place, I'm going to a new orientale place that just opened up and I haven't tried yet. The pictures of their Kung Pau Chicken on their website look really good.

It's a sign. A sign of championship football. The Texans will take the Jaggies to the woodshed today, and the Dolts next week. We will drop a few positions in the draft, and everybody will cry in their beer.

Taking my daughters to see a movie at 1230. I don’t care about this game. Until the Texans fire their staff and get serious about hiring innovative coaches, this team will be on the back burner.

Of course it’s a crapshoot, but you’d still rather have a better pick, in each round BTW, than not have it. Again, I bring up the Jets. Would they rather have Lawrence or those 2 late season wins that lost them Lawrence where they had to settle for Wilson, who they’re already wanting to move on from?
better pick is a judgment call when discussing within the draft rounds. It's hypothetical to ask the ifs, should've, could've of scenarios. Hell Tom Brady was a 6th round pick. Hey I'm all for getting the best player available to that team's needs. Texans should pick up a QB. Texans should pick up several positions. imho barring those key injuries some bad play calls and field mistakes the games especially of late most have been close and getting better. I'm excited for the April draft and the outcome selection and next season will be awesome. The Texans will rock H Town and the league. I have no problem with Young nor CJ or Levis yea they all have pros n cons strengths n weaknesses. My attitude this year vs other years in the Texans draft is that they have many picks and again next year that alone is so refreshing. It's time to pick the huge crop of players and hopefully they turn out a non bust. I'm sure many will be very successful. If it's Bryce Young first pick and then all the other picks so be it. It is what it is turn a new page in 2023

It is amazing how not to appreciate a top ten draft pick and then still get #11 too. It's all good. QB is just a start still have to fill the other positions which I expect they will do.
Hey Thorn it's New Year's Day hangover food got to do the menudo

Really, if winning doesn't matter why bother keeping score.

Losers are just that, losers

2nd place is the 1st place loser in my world.
ikr as one analyst of the statement said it meant which goes beyond football -
The statement doesn’t deny the existence of losing, it denies the possibility of it. Winning is the only option, because no one wants to lose, you have to have the determination to win.

If we don’t win there's no way to succeed in life for many people, because that's what winning is. Winning is success and without, there is no success. In the world we live in that isn’t an option for millions of people out there, so the statement “winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing” is more than valid.

Dare Ogunbowale (knee) is active for Houston's Week 17 game against Jacksonville.
Ogunbowale was the only questionable player on Houston's injury report and will likely continue to split snaps with Royce Freeman against the Jaguars. Inactive for the Texans are QB Kyle Allen, CB Jacobi Francis, C Jimmy Morrissey (concussion), DL Thomas Booker, and TE Teagan Quitoriano (thigh).
