JJ Watt Appreciation

That game against cincy in playoffs. He got the pick six..

Probably one of the last times I screamed for the Texans and not at them lololol
I was sitting in row 12 near the 35 yard line. It happened right in front of me. It was so unexpected that the crowd didn't process it at first. Everyone was ready to leave for halftime, so they weren't making much noise when JJ reached up and deflected a ball like he did every game. But this time the ball came down in his hands. The crowd --not yet recognizing this unlikely occurence of a lineman intercepting at almost point blank range-- was still relatively calm during the surreal slow-motion 2.5 seconds that he secured the ball and began running. He was three strides toward the Cincy endzone when the crowd recognized what was happening, then Reliant Stadium became a madhouse. People wents nuts. Friends jumping over seats to hug one another, beer getting splashed, dogs and cats living together. It was a special moment knowing we were going to win our first playoff game in franchise history.

JJ Watt practically singlehandedly kept my interest in football during the O'Brien Tyranny and probably saved it from dying altogether.

Best defensive player I ever saw. The amount of direct, specific game-changing impact he had on a seemingly weekly basis was astounding. Every week was a must watch to see what he'd do and how he'd do it.

Not to mention everything he was off the field. Hard to believe that's real too. Maybe it just might be.

The injuries and the way his tenure in a Texans uniform ended especially with the absolute terrible team, coaching, and management around him really put a damper on enthusiasm, appreciation, and understanding of the magnitude of his career but, man....

JJ is an amazing football player. Not since Reggie White and LT roamed the field has a coach had to game plan for a single defensive player. That changed when JJ was drafted. Since 2011, JJ (and later Aaron Donald) have been keeping coaches up for days. Why? Because he, a single player, has the ability to destroy the game plan. QBs feared they would look pathetic as JJ, Man Beast himself, would bat down their passes, leave them hurting on the ground from sacks and maybe even play TE a few snaps and catch a TD.

Off the field, JJ was never known to be a problem. A stand up man who did so much to help people in need. Not just in Houston but all over the US. With food drives, donations and hands on help in the face of rebuilding after hurricanes. Bringing people together to make things happen for the good of many.

JJ. I will miss seeing you on the field on Sundays. You are a great man, father, husband and teammate. I wish you the very best in whatever you do in the future. And hey, don't forget Houston needs a few good coaches for our Defense lol, I'm sure you would be very welcomed!

I took my son and best bud to the first playoff game. We were in the end zone (6th level nose bleeds, of course!) where JJ had the pick 6 and Andre Johnson scored his first post-season TD. That was badass to witness.

Awesome night and one my son will never forget. I remember having so much optimism about the Texans, even after they lost the next week, and they appeared to have a good core of players going into the future. JJ was the foundation of it all.

Nobody should ever wear 99 for the Houston Texans again. I know they don't retire numbers, but it should just be an unwritten rule of respect.

I remember meeting you and your son in blue lot. I rode there from Austin with Hookem.

The best part about that Andre TD was he scored it against Packman Jones, who I have a special dislike for. It was man coverage and Andre used a double move that left Jones in the dust.

Sad part is he could have picked just about any team in the NFL and chose the Cardinals. Money talks. I don't blame him, but damn, shame to see it end this way.
If you remember, the Steelers and Packers didn't have cap room to sign Watt. Unless JJ took the vet minimum. He was limited by those that wanted him and those that could afford him.

That was a blast!! Blue Crew is always an awesome place to hang out before/after games, and that night was even better because of the win.

We parked at Hermann Park, so had to ride the train back to our ride. That was crazy. Drunk Texans fans fighting each other, rolling out of the train door when it stopped. How can you beat on each other when our team just won their first playoff game?! lol Insane.

Tampa Bay wanted him and had cap space. They just couldn't pay as much as Arizona.

My dad told me this is why he didn't take me to Oilers games when I was a kid. He hates those situations.

Maybe charging over $8 a beer isn't such a bad thing.

I agree with you 99 should be in the rafters. Hopefully, JJ signs a 1 day contract to retire a Texan. And Cal is smart enough to retire the number as well.

The Bucs weren’t really a contender until Brady signed. 2 weeks after Watt signed in Arizona.
'eh, they'd just won the SB. They were still a better winning option than the Cardinals who just had an 8-8 season and hadn't been to the playoffs since 2015.

He took the money. It's his choice, and I'm not going to feel sorry for his choices.

He made his choices.

He knew what joining the Cards meant.
Yep. No one outside of Arizona and the sensationalist media thought they were ever true contenders. JJ got a front row seat as to why when Murray looked overwhelmed in their one playoff appearance.

I dunno I may need to work on my attitude on west Coast football fans who I've never thought of too highly when compared to what I consider the "real" fans of the Midwest and in the South but this is a classy move by the folks in the Bay Area for JJ's final football game.
