Texans random thought of the day

Past year success does not guarantee future results.

Signed,

Last year’s Texans playing their best football down the stretch.

Kubiak’s Texans pre Watt scratching and clawing their way to .500 down the stretch after their trademark slow starts.

Jeff Fisher and his 9-7 bull****
True, but if you keep the core of decent ones you have something to build on - cut the deadwood and replace them with better players. That's how you build.
You have more chance of success this way than just tossing the whole team to the kerb.

So was this Cal or Carsterio?

So was this Cal or Carsterio?

Given rb's history coming back from a torn Achilles I can understand why he didn't bring Foreman back to Kirby.

I'm really happy Foreman was able to beat the odds.

On August 4, 2019, Foreman was waived by the Texans, who cited poor work habits and being late to team meetings

Colts will likely lose to the 8-6 Chargers and again next week against the Giants. If they lose to the Texans in the final game, and if the Texans beat the Jags next Sunday, the Colts just may leapfrog the Texans in draft positioning, with the Texans and Colts ending up with the same 4-12-1 record.

In case of a tie in record with Indy, the Texans would draft ahead of the Colts due to a weaker strength of schedule.

I didn't know that. I always just assumed head-to-head record was the first tiebreaker. I guess it really is true that you are never to old to learn something new.

That was an immature Foreman under BOB. Once he got back in with Titans when Henry got hurt and sadly his dad died in a rollover. you man has been a model citizen. My good friend writes for covers Titans and alot of people were disappointed they didn't resign him.

Would he have signed with them? Did his agent contact them?

Don't get me to lying, but to me he should've maybe been maybe a priority especially at that price.
I would have thought so also but then I was shocked when the Titans didn't retain him. Thought maybe he wanted too much money

In Foreman’s defense it seems once you were on the dog house with OB you never got out. There were a few players that experienced that.

I believe Foreman was signed at a really cheap rate. It made me think his agent is an idiot because he didn’t get more but it may be more attributed to the Achilles injury and his position.

Very interesting read.

Quoted from link
"Teams that didn’t qualify for the playoffs are assigned draft slots 1-20."

I'm assuming (again) that because the playoffs have changed from a 12 team tournament to a 14 team tournament that changed to slots 1-18.

Quoted from link
"The four teams eliminated in the wild card round pick in slots 21-24 in the reverse order of their final regular season records."

This would change also because there are now 6 teams eliminated in the Wild Card Round. It should be slots 19-24.

When we were witnessing the trash run game Culley had, I thought it was part scheme and part players in the backfield. David Johnson last years in Arizona, he was one of the worse rbs at breaking tackles. Everyone knew that position needed to be upgraded because of the lack of talent. They came back with Burkhead, Mack,Dare and drafted Pierce. Only reason Burkhead is on this team is because of Caserio.

On the NFL site, this weeks power rankings have the Texans at 27 instead of their usual spot at the bottom at 32. The teams rated below the Texans (in order): Atlanta, Chicago, Arizona, Indy and Denver.
That means as much as any of the other week's rankings

The Chargers always seems like the west coast version of the Oilers. With the playoffs on the line, I wouldn't be surprised if they lost to the Colts and disappointed their fans.

That secondary rb market is pretty cheap as we know.

Colts lost to Chargers 20-3, Monday night. Giants next Sunday. The recharged Texans need to take down the Jags to set up the end of season Texans @ Indy.

This didn't age well... perhaps you weren't aware they played last night?
LOL. No. I didn't know they played last night. My point still stands that they will disappoint more often than not.

Not just a QB. A championship QB in his 3rd year. The clock is ticking on the mythical TT 15% threshold. :kitten:

Agreed and there's nothing mythical about it. It's simply a fact that some fail to acknowledge? 4-5 more yrs of a championship window for the Chargers with Herbert.

i know watt said hes going to retire but him and clowney are free agents

why not play 1 more year in houston with watt and clown coming back lol

It would be a very Texans thing to fall to the second or third pick in the Draft and trade back up one to get who they wanted.
If they win their last two games, they could fall down to the #5 pick - if the four above them lose out.
That would also be a very Texans thing.🙄
Currently sitting behind us (in order)
Bears
Seahawks
Cardinals
Colts.
Seahawks and Cardinals have a decent chance to win one. Bears not so much.
And Colts have always been a thorn in our side so I don't think we fall out of the top three.

Agree with JJ but he looks set to retire.
Clowney? Yeah but only if he asks for a team friendly contract and I don't think he will settle for that.

While yes, the Seahawks are selecting in that high slot, it's actually Denvers position. They will likely lose out. I agree Arizonia has the best opportunity to win, against the 5-10 Falcons. If the Texans and Colts end up in a tie, the Texans draft first based on strength of schedule. We'll have a better understanding of it all after this Sunday's games.

EDGE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Houston Texans

Okoronkwo is coming off the best game of his season, and perhaps career, in Week 16, with seven total pressures — including two sacks and five hurries — to go along with three tackles for loss against the Tennessee Titans. Okoronkwo has earned an 83.9 pass-rushing grade this season with a 19.6% pass-rush win rate that ranks 12th among edge defenders this season and a 14% pressure percentage that ranks 22nd.

The limiting factor for Okoronkwo is his playtime thus far in his career, with his 437 snaps in 2022 a career high by almost 200 snaps. He landed in Houston this season after starting his career with the Los Angeles Rams and has progressively improved as his role has expanded, registering 18 pressures over his past four games. However, there is nonetheless a very small sample size to work off here.

Okoronkwo is a rangy athlete who fits well as a rotational outside linebacker and isn’t a complete liability against the run, earning 70.0-plus grades in back-to-back seasons. This deal is mirrored after another former Houston Texans edge defender in Jacob Martin, who had a similar stretch to close out the 2021 season before ultimately signing a three-year, $13.5 million contract.

Projected contract: Three years, $15 million ($5 million per year), $6.5 million total guaranteed

Investigation?........Such a sham!! Continued show of incompetence regarding the Concussion Protocol.

NFLPA initiates joint review of latest Tua Tagovailoa concussion
Posted by Mike Florio on December 28, 2022, 12:00 PM EST

Another Tua Tagovailoa concussion, another joint NFL-NFLPA review of the circumstances.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL Players Association has initiated a joint investigation of the latest Tagovailoa concussion. It happened at some point in Sunday’s game between the Packers and Dolphins; during a play late in the second quarter, Tua’s head struck the turf.

The union exercised its prerogative to conduct a joint review of the events surrounding the decision to clear Tagovailoa to return to a Week Three game between the Bills and Dolphins. That review resulted in changes to the concussion protocol aimed at ensuring players who show signs of ataxia will be prevented from returning to play. (It also resulted in the union exercising its prerogative to terminate the Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant assigned to the Dolphins that day.) Tua had been clearly unstable and wobbly after striking his head on the ground during that game.

This time around, the review undoubtedly will focus on the failure to connect Tua’s head striking to the turf to the potential need for a concussion evaluation, along with the question of whether he was demonstrating any behaviors that would suggest the possible existence of a concussion.

Yes, the league has already said that there were no signs or symptoms of a concussion during the game. The league also insisted then (and would still insist now) that Tua had only a back injury during the game against the Bills.

Others would strongly disagree with the latter; it makes sense, then, to at least remain a little skeptical about the former.

I am a little lost.

Are we talking about Herbert and the Chargers? What championships has Herbert won?
You're not lost. The answer is none. Based on @steelbtexan's definition and the 15% QB threshold. A championship QB doesn't need to win a championship. They just have to have certain traits needed to win a championship before their salary exceeds 14-15% of the salary cap.

So, Jimmy G, Josh Allen (I think), Justin Hebert and Joe Burrow are all considered championship QBs. However, Dan Fouts, Dan Marino, and Warren Moon are not championship QBs.

To identify the traits of a championship QB who have not won a championship, @steelbtexan will have to explain his methodology.

Agreed and there's nothing mythical about it. It's simply a fact that some fail to acknowledge? 4-5 more yrs of a championship window for the Chargers with Herbert.

I don't get the confusion, either. It's just a stat, but one supported by facts:

"Only one QB since 1994 has won a Super Bowl with a cap hit percentage higher than 13, per Thompson, and that was 49ers legend Steve Young, whose deal predated the salary cap itself." - CBS Sports (Here's the ideal salary range for Super Bowl-winning QBs, and why Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson may benefit)
