Not so much vs Chiefs.Interior is being pushed around.
Agreed. They’re not getting pushed around, but they’re not moving bodies eitherNot so much vs Chiefs.
Is picky pickyAgreed. They’re not getting pushed around, but they’re not moving bodies either
& their 2nd level blocking is ineffective
No OL is going to look good in the run game when that is the only threat you haveI would like to see more from an Oline than what I'm seeing in ours - like a run game.
Perhaps that comes down to scheme.
Maybe they'll continue to improve as Green gets up to speed.
True.No OL is going to look good in the run game when that is the only threat you have
Caserio needs to draft a center. It's as big of a hole on this team as all of the other holes. Find a great center and the ol will be much improved. They also need to find a guy that can play both center and og to challenge Cann and be a great depth piece.True.
A run game that is equally effective as the passing game will give any defense problems - you don't want to be one dimensional with your attack.

Beerlover really wanted to draft Linderbaum and looking back on things Caerrio should uld have lost Petrie but trade back into the late 1st for Linderbaum.
Linderbaum was rare talent .... once every 5 yrs .... maybe decade. There were some really talented linemen in that draft .... not including Mr. Green Jeans ! John Michael Schmitz may be the guy ! Andrew Vorhees is hanging in there as top right guard. And .... am I the only one that Heck looked good to on Sunday ? Steel, you were very high on the Arkansas center a month or two ago .... did you ever read/hear about their right guard .... benches 600 and squats 700 .... they won't let him attempt more than that ! But, he looks as lost as Green - once the ball is snapped !
I agree that there are several C in this years draft that could be our guy. In no particular order I like Michael-Schmitz, Van Pran, Oluwatimi, and Stromberg. I think all have potential, so I’m very interested to see how they do at the EW Shrine, Senior Bowl, and the combine.Green was fine until he got hurt.
There are 4-5 centers I like and a couple of more guys that play OT that I think can not only be great OG's but play center at a high level as well. Mauck/Beebe. I absolutely love these guys and I'm looking forward to seeing them at the Sr. Bowl practices.
From A (@randomdogname): Are Texans better taking Bryce Young, or taking Will Anderson/Jalen Carter and rolling dice on a QB elsewhere?
A, it’s way too early to make a definitive call on that. That said, we can talk about it philosophically.
I do think the safer call here is to go with Alabama's Anderson Jr. or Georgia's Carter. Both are physically superior players at important positions that you can plug in and hope for a decade’s worth of Pro Bowls. If I had to guess which player Texans GM Nick Caserio would be more comfortable, I’d go with Anderson, because he is cleaner from a makeup perspective and comes from a program Caserio has a ton of background with. But Carter has more upside.
Here are the comps I got from one AFC exec, who started by saying that physically, Anderson is built like Von Miller, while he plays a little like a smaller version of another star edge guy.
“Will Anderson is a less athletic Myles Garrett—not as long or quick, but just as powerful,” he said. “Heavy-handed, more consistent motor than Myles coming out. … And Jalen is a unicorn. Probably the closest thing to [Ndamukong] Suh since Suh, just a total, freakish blend of size, power and athletic ability.”
One other comp that I got for Carter that I kind of liked was Fletcher Cox. And Kayvon Thibodeaux and Melvin Ingram are two other comps that came in for Anderson.
Now, if you want a real-life example of how the actual decision-making here could play out, if you’re not wild about the quarterbacks, look at the first three picks from 2019.
The Cardinals got Kyler Murray and that’s, well, complicated. He’s not a bust, but there’s a lot to dig through with him. Meanwhile, the 49ers and Jets are pulling Brinks trucks out of the driveway for Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams, both of whom have become game-wreckers at important positions, but not as important as quarterback. And both teams took quarterbacks two years after that, and are contending now (the Cardinals are not).
So there’s a lot to a decision such as this one, for sure. So it’s a good thing Caserio’s got four months to mull it over.
Should have taken Linderbaum over Green.Caserio needs to draft a center. It's as big of a hole on this team as all of the other holes. Find a great center and the ol will be much improved. They also need to find a guy that can play both center and og to challenge Cann and be a great depth piece.

A fantastic description of the decision at hand, thank you. Agree 100000% with the commenter on this one. Look where Arizona is now compared to SF and the Jets who drafted Bosa/Williams and waited on the QB. Getting a mid-tier guy like Murray and paying him $240M for mid-level production is an albatross on your team. Caserio better get this decision right if he takes Young or it could be a killer for this franchise if he's 'mid'.

I'm hoping the Texans follow the 49ers model. They handled the QB position correctly. IMHO.This conclusion made by the article is very faulty. The Jets nor 49ers needed a QB in that draft and despite their records have QB messes on their hands going forward.
Despite the on-field success of SanFran they had both spent heavily on a veteran free agent on Jimmy G the year before (2017) so they didn't "need" QB in the 2019 draft. In the end, the 40ers don't really trust Jimmy G, spending multiple 1st round picks trading up for a QB who has barely played for them. Bosa is a part of DL with two other 1st round picks so the 49ers have made a serious commitment to the front four and really the front seven on defense that has a large part in this run over how they have handled the QB position.
The Jets had just drafted Sam Darold in 2018. Again that team didn't "need" a QB in 2019. the Jets part ways with Darnold and drafted another in 2021 who was effectively benched for jouneyman Mike white. The QB mess has resulted in the Jets falling apart in the 2nd half of this year losing three straight games.
Murray while he probably should NOT have gotten the extension has at least led his team to a playoff game. Of course, this is exactly the kind of argument you make for a mid-level QB when tyring justify him going forward. Oh yeah, the Cardinals had just taken Josh Rosen in 2018 in the 1st round only hire a coach who wanted his guy in Murray. Rosen is one of the great 1st round bust barely even able to stay in the league despite being healty from all that I call tell.
At the end, of the day, all three of these teams have cycled through three starters this year and really don't know who will under center on Labor Day 2023. None are models for jow to handle QB.
I think the verdict on Lance is far from unknown because of the injury. He wasn't expected to be a Year 1 starter and then he busted his ankle early in 2022. So this is unknown as of now... However, Stroud/Young in this draft are expected to be NFL ready so we should know more quickly how they stack up.Quoted for truth
I'm not a believer in picking a QB high just because you need a QB.
The 49ers did it the right way. Problem is they missed on Lance.
Yea he's Albert Breer of SI; he always does columns like these every week and he's very plugged in to teams.A fantastic description of the decision at hand, thank you. My problem here is not whom the Texans select, but who is making the selection. Is it the GM, a coach, the owner?

The Texans have told VIPs they are going to make a "Splash" next year in the draft. Things I am sure may change but it leads me to believe it will be QB at 1.1.
The Texans have always used corporate decision-making and I have no personal interest in trying to figure out who makes what pick or free-agent move. Since they don't want us to hold a single person accountable I hold them ALL responsible for this mess, even going back to Papa McNair. My problem here is not whom the Texans select, but who is making the selection. Is it the GM, a coach, the owner? Do any of them have the credentials to make the pick? I could get behind just about any strategy if I knew someone competent was making the decision. The Texans strategy seems to be the blind squirrel can find the nut.

This makes me believe it will be a trade.
Draft history and this draft board say less than a 10 percent chance of a trade out of the number 1 spot.
Recent history suggests trades are more possible than past history suggests.
Caserio shows a willingness to make trades.

Exactly and Dickerson is who i have him compared to.I’m not sure there is a sure fire day one starting Center in this draft. Long way from having Linderbaum sitting right there to help your QB. There might be another option however, 2nd rd. O’Cyrus Torrence. Only thing, he’s never played Center. Natural knee bender, elite traits and could kick inside if he does well testing. Reminds me of Landon Dickerson, who played some Center @ Alabama now starting LG for the Eagles. Regardless position, he would fortify the OL.
How if he doesn't know if a team will trade up? Huge reach..unless he has imput from other teams already. This makes me believe it will be a trade.
Can't use that as aWhen was the last time a team traded from the number 1 pick?
I know we discussed him right? Red flag medical but otherwise elite.Exactly and Dickerson is who i have him compared to.
Can't use that as a
line in the sand As teams may want or desperately need the player they took rather than accepting a trade. This was recently discussed elsewhere.
Torrence would need some adjustment time at OC but his build and anchor + ferocious attitude interests me. DTs would have work cut out trying to move him.I know we discussed him right? Red flag medical but otherwise elite.
2016?When was the last time a team traded from the number 1 pick?

Centers typically make the OL calls. This most likely would be a learning adjustment. May be difficult for a rookie to start having never made these calls before.I’m not sure there is a sure fire day one starting Center in this draft. Who was the GM the times the Texans had the first pick? Who is the GM now?
Are we even sure he will be the GM on January 10?
Are we even sure this isn’t some sort of a simulation we are living in?
The fact that you keep answering questions with questions give credit to anything is possible and the past GM’s actions when having the first over all picks has little relevance.
I was messing with you on the last one. Should have put one of those silly things to let you know that.
I am more interested in would as the GM you take either one of the two number 1 overall trades in 2023
Apologize for offending you. I was hoping you would offer a little more If it was not just a hunch. It's well known I offer similar thoughts as yours so I was not attacking you. I can see how it seemed so. I also believed my 2nd part of the post about he may be in contact already for a trade (s) that fit in with your scenario. Again I am sorry.Didn’t know I would get pulled over message board police. I thought this is the place where we try to predict and speculate what will happen.

If only Cal McNair had that.. sigh. My speculation would be opposite of hindsight in me being optimistic that Cal will take a new approach to the Texas future. I am basing that primarily on his decision to move on from Jack Easterby.Apology not accepted. I want to pout, feel sorry for myself and scream at the heavens about the injustices the gods have brought upon myself.
Seriously though - no need to apologize.
All I have is speculation and hindsight to offer.
