Texans random thought of the day

And Owens leads the team with close to 60 solo tackles…. Imagine how many he’d have without all his whiffs!
Imagine how few Owens would have if the guys in front of him could actually tackle before they got to him.
Exactly. A safety being your leading tackler is usually the result of bad play from your front seven.

If your an oilers fan, you remember a dark day in the 90's when we gave up a tremendous lead to lose to the Bills in the playoffs.

Football died for my dad that day. He never cared as much about the game afterward. I still remember the house after that, quiet, still, and dark.

I wonder now if he wasn't lucky. He cut ties from his team sudden and sharp like a guillotine. I'm being murdered by the slow monotonous thousand cuts of a derange McNair agent. Cut me or waterboard me. It's still slow.

I remember a time when I worked the night shift in the first couple years of the franchise. I'd wake up after 2 hours of sleep to watch a game. Always. It didn't matter if we got our azz kicked or not. I was there.

Over the last 2 decades, I care a little bit less every year. I barely know who we play next week. I used to be hardcore enough on the draft I knew most every name till the 6th round. Now I barely know prospects in the 2nd round.

This team doesn't want your faith. It doesn't deserve it. They just want your $. We are a laughingstock of the nfl again. 2 decades of utter suckery have killed my love of the game.

I hope that changes but I don't see much chance of it for a couple years.

I’m starting to feel the same freaking way with this team and the Rockets. I still have love for the game but I’m starting to say F it and watch other games that I think will be more competitive. Both of these teams Rockets and Texans keep making the same exact mistakes in every game. And I’m like wtf are these coaches doing. Are they not working on these mishaps? Are they making the necessary adjustments? Are they not able to deliver their philosophies to these players?

Well at least we have the Astros. Lol

Exactly. He should be questioned on why his offense is averaging less than 5 yards per pass in the first quarter and how he plans to fix it.

Reminder the good old days when you would track bad opening drives? Now you should track bad opening halves. I guess things can get worst.

Quoted for truth.

Many of us were devastated by that Bills game.

I rediscovered the game with Kubiak.

I recorded every game and watch football 350 days out of the year.

I remember thinking how I hated it that McNair re-upped Schaub in 2012 while they had the option to let the season play out.

I also hated it that they didn't draft Wilson that year.

I was among the few who advocated the trade for Matt Schaub before the Texans did (along with TexanMike), but I was always looking for an upgrade, and had said so continuously over the years.

I even said that the Texans should also draft Kirk Cousins and Keenum that same year.

All three of them or at least two, preferably Wilson and Keenum since their games are somewhat closer (making play outside tackles); the offensive line won't have to adjust much.
I said they could be an insurance policy for each other.
I was willing to take Wilson early in the second and Keenum in the fifth, maybe even the mid-to-late fourth (he had an injury when trying to tackle a defender after a rare interception in college; I understood that it represents a question mark in the NFL).

At that time, I already had an inkling that this could be bad news for the future.

I really Iiked Schaub and had defended him on many occasions, but I also recognized that he's not the one who can take the team deep into the playoffs.

McNair was so happy to announce the Schaub's deal.

I, on the other hand, thought that it was a very bad move.

I was really disappointed that they didn't draft Wilson.

I even said at the time that "I'm not sure who will have a better career between Wilson, Luck, and RG III."

I said Wilson might have the better career; that was really bold talk.

The last straw was when they fired Kubiak.

I thought Kubiak and Wade (both with strong ties to Houston) was a good combination.

I never thought of Wade as the best DC, but he was good enough for a few more years.

I learned about his match-man philosophy (which is quite similar to basketball when you play switch-man defense).

It kills me to see the defense getting worse and worse under O'Brien and even now.

Most people thought it was time to move from Kubiak and Wade.

I was among the few who disagreed.

And here we are.

You wanting a statue or something? Or you just trying to convince someone that you're the smartest guy in the room? Either way you fail

I had playbooks in my car.
I thought about a play while driving, in a line, etc.

I woke up at night thinking about a certain play.

That's the love of the game instead of petty/shallow thought about a fellow football fan.

I've had several posts about how I grew up as a soccer fan in Vietnam, but I did have an opportunity to watch football every week as a youngster in the late 60s and early 70s.

Then after a long while of studying, I realized that Football is the best strategic game.

I find it funny when people start questioning about my take.

In this country, everybody is allowed free thoughts/thinkings.

It's weak sauce when you can win an argument and resort to attack the person.

Sorry, I thought you had me on ignore. I just find it funny that you feel the need to list all these accomplishments of yours like they meant something. No offense intended. And I did not attack you but I appreciate your acknowledging that I won an argument. Whenever that was

You're right. I need to walk away from thisSht, I'm nowhere near a fan like you.

I'm so glad the Texans have someone like you in their corner. Never mind those die hands who dress up & show out & actually make it to the stadium to support them, rain or shine, good times & bad, in sickness & in health.

You drive around with playbooks in the car & think about plays throughout the week.

Bravo. Bravo.

From my understanding, many people have gotten rid of their PSL

Some die hard fans on this very MB didn't go to some game(s) even though they have tickets.

I've seen brown bags in the stadium.

The ineptitude of the organization, coupled with Vegas is really a bad combination for football as a sport.

It's now just entertainment for me.
There's no such thing as professional football any longer.

Hard to believe that Culley and Tim Kelly were more successful.
Hard to believe you care. They were only more successful in winning meaningless games late. It's not that late this season yet

And the Vegas victory means we are the only team remaining with less than three wins which gives us some breathing room in case Lovies troups do in fact win another game which would still leave us in sole possession of the first overall pic in the '23 Draft.

If they can beat the Browns i’ll be happy. That’s the only game I care about the rest of this lost season.

Week in, week out, we face strong Dlines and they wreak havoc on us.
Otoh, ours is sub par and the opponents are able to effectively score on us. Add to that an underperforming Oline and you have a recipe for failure.
Now we could shore up our Oline, but we definitely need to create a DLine that slows down the opponents scoring ability.
The old adage "the battle is won in the trenches" is obviously true watching the Texans.
Man, how valuable was JJ Watt?

On that thought, with no obvious QB stud in this next draft, we should take the best pass rusher available with the #1 pick and take the best available QB with our 2nd pick.
Not saying the new Edge is gonna be a JJ Watt, but if he is 90% of JJ, he will mean a lot to this team. Players wanted to come to Houston before and I put some of that down to JJ being here.

Like the city of Houston, our trenches (and ditches and bayous) seem to be filled with floating garbage. And it both cases, it's expensive to clean up. And takes a while. This team will be lucky to even get close to a .500 record in 2023. If all goes right in fantasy land, we "should be" competitive in 2024. Maybe. It is the Texans we're talking about.

Drafting the top rookie edge and bringing in a strong vet will make a substantial difference to our DLine.
The same philosophy could be applied to the Oline and only use two draft picks. It would impact the cap but we have a full bank coming in to this next off season.
The problem will be once again, the signal caller.
We could burn another top pick on one, or, do we try to bring in a seasoned vet - one that is better than Mills and not be too expensive?

My opinion, like a few others, is that this years QB crop isn't worth the top pick in the draft. Given that, you have a few choices. Draft one anyway, which I disagree with. Continue with Mills, or bring in a vet to run things while waiting on the 2024 draft for a QB. None of these are good choices, but one the Texans will have to choose from.

This.
And with that in mind:-
Trubisky
Garoppolo
Foles
Bridgewater
Dalton
Flacco
Henne.
Not all are inviting, but most are better than Mills.
I think Garoppolo would bring a sense of respect back to our O.
Foles would bring a lot of experience as well.
Keep Mills as backup.

This team quit Sunday. Zero emotion. Mills should have gone Brady on Kenyan. But he just goes back to the huddle and throws another incomplete pass or gets sacked again. Defense can't tackle. I changed it to Red Zone after the Pick 6 and never looked back. I might not even tune in next week. The Dolphins are gonna boat race the Texans. Tyreek, Waddle,Tua......shut up. The fish should drop a 50 burger on the Texans and Lovie needs to get on a plane and go back to Big Shady or wherever it is he's from!
Sell the team Cal!

I dunno but suspect the players & coachs don't have any kind of grudge against Watson unlike some fans and ownership does.
Personally I could care less about beating Watson & the Browns, but what does remain for me is a strong curiosity to see how this plays out in both Watsons personal and professional lives and to be perfectly honest perhaps a little sadness for what could have been down here in Houston.

Who on this list is looking to get paid or have happy to just have a job?

Because that is who we will get. Either someone looking to get one last pay check or someone happy they have a job.

No one is coming her because they want to win. Which is ok by me…
