Week 9 starts in HTown: Eagles vs Texans

You can not stare your receiver down like that in the red zone. But on his scramble Jordan was wide open. Another missed opportunity.
On 3rd and 19 with 3 mins left in the game, down 2 scores, he took a chance and it didn't workout. Idont have a problem with that throw.

Agreed about Jordan, how has Q looked tonight against Philly's big DT's?

His first int spotted them a TD. This 2nd one ended all remaining chances. That's on Mills. Defense was also shite.

Didn't watch much of the game for obvious reasons.

I just made that comment because I knew that's what posters would be saying regardless of how Mills played.

Back to the Stros.

If you notice, both of Philly dt can rush the passer with quickness. None are like Carter who can only bull rush and stands up too much. Hargrave is 6'2 305, Cox is 6'4 310. Both can get skinny and can hand fight. Those are Lovie Smith type of dt's.

I like that the team is improving. I didn't expect them to have a chance late in the game. Green has had a rough couple of weeks. He needs coaching up on his pass protection.

He's more run blocker than pass blocker. He's a rookie and taking rookie lumps. Might as well get those lumps out the way now and hope he gets better moving his feet and better hand combat inside.

If Cleveland gives us a high enough pick, there is a chance we could get both Anderson and Carter. I think the interior is more important though.
Anderson and Carter would be a start of solving a lot of issues on this team.

Carter can do these things too.

Sadly, with Cooks quitting on the team, i think we'll need 2 top WR picks or one WR pick and mid-range WR in FA. So many needs. I think the secondary is in the best shape overall on the team though.
I'm all for adding a WR to this team.

But I'm a build the trenches guy. I think a good Center could be there at the top of the 3rd. Van Prann and Stromberg are my 1-2 guys. Give me Anderson/Carter in Rd.1 and Ika Rd. 2. Then WR Mingo and Van Prann or Stromberg in Rd.3.

Okay…caught the end of the game. Went to bed at 2030 and woke up at 0330. Now ‘m watching the game from the start.

1. I’m going with TB74 on his assessment. The throw to Dorsett drifted from his inside shoulder to his outside shoulder by the time it was arriving. This caused Dorsett to break stride and twist to make a great catch. Had that ball remained to the inside shoulder….Dorsett easily catches the ball in stride and waltzes in for an easy TD.

2. On the TD. It could’ve been a far easier task had he led him a little more versus where the ball wound up. It became a bit more contested and the rookie TE made an awesome catch.

Nice drive regardless. Pierce continues his march toward the Rookie of the Year award.

More coming as the game progresses.

Tampa 2 defense up to its same failures. On the field for almost 8 minutes and give up a rushing TD on a 4th down attempt. A few nice plays mixed in with a missed INT and the failure to get off the field.

Go pull up videos and show me when he's beat a guy with his hands. He's strictly a straight arm bull rusher. That's not to say he can't be taught, but most guys who try to win with bull rush and are successful, that's what they are, like Clowney. Carter doesn't have that burst, get skinny, hand fighting. He bull rush and stand up. Maybe its the scheme, but that's all I see him do, even last year. They have 7 sacks as a team this year and most teams are in passing situations vs them. I'm not saying I don't like him, but he's not a scheme fit nor is he scheme adverse.

Did you look at last yr?

Really liked the LG- McDermott’s pancake block on Pierce’s run. That guy just kept going and finished up on top the guy in front of hm while springing Pierce for a nice run. End of the 1st.

Tunsil false start never helps….always at the worst time. Makes it a 3rd and 11 versus 3rd and 6.

Mills should’ve just kept running and he probably gets the first down…..versus slowing down and looking as though he wanted to pitch the ball to someone. When that ball comes down and you know it’s time to run…..take off with authority.

I saw that play, the only one I watched. That's the difference between accuracy and completion %. If that ball is inside, dude is line dancing in the end zone vs turning around and stopping his feet.

Yep, but what does that have to do with this year? You have to update your resume every game. Even before he got hurt and played vs Oregon, he was doing the same thing in terms of interior rusher, nothing.

If you like what you saw last yr, you know he's got it in him.

He's been hurt this yr. I look at it this way, when he played against Oregon he was a focal point of a defense that shutout a pretty good Oregon offense with a bunch of new starters. I mean 1/2 of their defense got drafted in the 1st three rds and Carter was the best DL on that team. I'll take my chances on a guy like that.

Nice sack/FF by Nelson and recovery by the defense. It is interesting that Lovie is upping the attack on this defense

Another long drive in the 2nd quarter by the Eagles that keeps the defense on the field far too long. Missed tackles at the core. One that stood out for me was 2 defenders running past the screen versus hitting the guy who caught it….that was ugly. Of course, Eagles score on the series.

Watching the Texans but just noticed on ESPN that the Astros took GM5. Verlander gets his first WS win!!!!!! The WS schnide is over for Verlander. Astros coming home with a 3-2 series lead. Sorry for the interruption, but it was worth it.

Pierce on another nice run in what’s left of the 2nd quarter. Hargraves is a monster. He was a RD3 pick from South Carolina. Pierce on another big nasty and punishing run.

I’ve given Pierce his proper and new nickname, “The Punisher”!!!!!

Mills TD pass was ducking right on the button. Scramble and a laser to Moore. I have a real issue with the fact that they’re reviewing the TD. These are the nice little plays that show some of us that he’s got the tools. Now he needs the consistency.

A tie before halftime. Almost seems like the standard script for this season. Second half is where coaching and execution seem to fall apart.

wonder which qb we’re taking with then #1 pick

Hopefully none of them. That first pick has nice return of picks written all over it. QB isn’t the biggest issue plaguing this team. There’s some big holes that need to be addressed to make this team better. I think the Texans could go shopping for a solid bridge veteran QB in 2024 while looking at QB in RD1 of the 2024 draft. Mills would come to camp in 2024 and compete for a roster spot against the veteran and rookie.

That’s 3 drafts in the books. 2 drafts moving veterans into 2024, to go along with another rookie class, as well as FA additions for a new veteran and rookie QB to be part of……which would be a far better approach than the Texans last 20 years of existence.

It’s 0600 here and I’m going to eat some breakfast, then get ready for work. Texans “D” holding 6 minutes into the 3rd quarter.

That was a horrible INT by Mills. He should’ve just kept moving and leaned forward.

Defense made that easy for Hurts to Brown, but Mills set the table.

Wow….a perfectly executed screen to Moore. Moore looked great on that play. Cooks may want to take a look at this game b/c Moore and Dorsett are producing. If Pep will make a bigger commitment to Aiken, Howard, and Jordan….it would sure change how defenses approach the Texans.

Give it up and go watch the Astros game. 🤣

In same week NFL reminded teams of the rule, officials missed clear “assisting the runner” foul
Posted by Mike Florio on November 3, 2022, 11:48 PM EDT

As the Eagles moved toward the end zone for a touchdown that would tie Thursday night’s game at seven in the first quarter, Philadelphia got closer to the goal line when center Jason Kelce pulled running back Kenneth Gainwell forward at the end of the play.

It should have drawn a flag. It didn’t.

Prior to 2006, the rules prohibited pushing a runner. That year, the rule was revised to allow pushing. However, it remained illegal to “pull a runner in any direction at any time.”

As noted by the Football Zebras account on Twitter, a foul hasn’t been called for assisting the running in 30 years. Per a league source, however, the NFL sent this week a video to all teams regarding the “assisting the runner” rule, specifically pointing out that pulling a runner is prohibited.

And the officials still missed it.

Amazon’s rules analyst, former NFL referee Terry McAulay, later explained that a penalty should have been called. (McAulay also mentioned the video, something I didn’t catch during the live broadcast.) As the source who informed us of the recent video described it, the failure to spot the foul reflected “utter incompetence” by the officials.

It happened so early in the game that it’s impossible to say it affected the outcome. But it helped get the Eagles a little closer on a drive that resulted in a 7-7 tie, instead of a 7-3 or 7-0 deficit. And it’s another example of the simple fact that the game officials aren’t as good as they need to be, especially not in an age of ever-spreading legalized wagering.

Those red helmets look sweet as hell…

With the exception of the Titans game all of our games have played out the same way. Play a team tough for about 3 quarters and then in the 4th, the opposition makes 1 or 2 plays more than we can that lead to points b/c they have a security blanket, go-to guy or 2 at WR or RB that they can rely on for production and we lose…. Just bolsters my opinion about this team’s main issues…we just dont quite yet have enough talent around the qb at the skill positions to finish these games. Sure getting better qb play would definitely help, but more talent around the qb at the skill positions would help more imo. Matt Schaub had AJ and later Arian as his security blanket. Whose Mills’ go-to security blanket guy?

Pep and Lovie are doing Mills’ development a disservice with the conservative playcalling….trying to protect him from himself early in games……We all wonder why this kid & the offense continue to fall short in these very winnable games in the 4th qtrs……..Its b/c they’ve slowed his development down to a snails pace with the conservative, protective playcalling so that he doesn’t make a mistake early….then in the 4th qtr of tight games, they ask him to go win it……with no go-to guy..no security blanket…

he has to be turned loose and allowed to make mistakes…if not the whole game, at least earlier in games………open it up…let him sling it and take his lumps like you’d let any young player at another skill position do. Sure It would be painful to watch at times, but he needs that to happen so he can make the mistakes when there’s no pressure….enough of them, so that he can begin to learn from them and develop and refine his decision-making and internal clock and pocket presence FASTER. Right now in pressure situations he’s being forced to make throws that he might not otherwise make. Unsure of when he needs to take off or try to squeeze that throw through that window or check it down. Its coming its just so SLOW. if he’s turned loose and allowed to just play the game. You can see his development at times…He ran today more than any other game i’ve seen him in the past and made some 1st downs with his feet Once he didn’t see it downfield immediately b/c his internal clock went off & he was gone. He wasnt doing that earlier in the season. Took him 8 damn games to figure that out. They keep putting him in these force type pressure packed 4th qtr situations and he’s already got enough of that coming from his defense putting pressure on him & the offense b/c they cant stop **** and they don’t really get him many extra possessions.

Lovie is ******* up!

They mentioned several times during the game, that in a pregame interview, Mills said that he was going to start using his feet more to gain yards when the opportunity was there. He began doing that tonight to some effect.
IMO, this is the key to Mills success with the O-line issues we have. He moves and throws very well on the run, he just doesn't do it enough. I would like to see more plays with a designed roll out and moving pocket. Mills also needs to use his legs if he can get a 1st down - he has the ability, he just doesn't use it.

He's more run blocker than pass blocker. He's a rookie and taking rookie lumps. Might as well get those lumps out the way now and hope he gets better moving his feet and better hand combat inside.
I agree. There's nothing to gain but experience this year. I'm glad they're letting the young guys play.

I may be in the minority here, but I like how Caserio is building the team. He's not making big splashes in FA or big trades, but there's no point in doing that right now. The nuclear meltdown of roster/draft capital/salary cap left by BOB was going to take a while to clean up.

Sadly, with Cooks quitting on the team, i think we'll need 2 top WR picks or one WR pick and mid-range WR in FA. So many needs. I think the secondary is in the best shape overall on the team though.
I don't think so. We need a number 1 wide receiver but Nico Collins is shaping up to be a good #2 option and Dorsett and Moore look like they can be solid #3 options. Also gotta remember we have Metchie coming back next year. Obviously we'll see how that goes as that is a unique situation but he could be something. We have way too many holes to be spending cap or more than 1 draft pick on a wide receiver.
