Texans random thought of the day

Yes.

What group would you like to be in? I want to know, as that way I won't unknowingly insult you. :)

Personally, I'm completely out of rats asses to give, so I just pick random posts to argue with.
You want to knowingly insult?

Put me in the group that thinks Caserio has done a good job with what he had. People complain about the free agents he brought in, but I think he has only brought in who he could afford, and who Lovie approved of. He extended certain players this past offseason because lovie wanted them back, and we couldn't really afford anyone better. The real test will start after this season. Caserio will have the money to go after better players, so we will see how well he does. So far, I think he has done a good job in the draft. I hope that continues.

As far as coaching hires, I think his hands were tied. Hopefully, now that Easterbunny is gone, Cal will let Caserio hire the coaches he wants. Until Caserio is allowed to do his job without restrictions, we will never know how good or bad he is.

That's fine.

It's a bad idea to trade him considering the cap.

I didn't think they'd ask for a 2nd. But if they get a 2nd, even if they pay some of the 2023 salary ($5 or $6M) I'd be OK with that

I’d love a 2nd for Cooks. But I don’t see a team giving that up for him. Even if Texans eat the salary like the Browns did for Osweiler (and gained a pick that turned into Nick Chubb).

Everybody should be reminding you that this is Caserio’s first GM job. Second, what did you expect based on the absolute shite show this organization was left in by OB?

Caserio has been digging out of this since his arrival while trying to field a somewhat respectable team. It wasn’t going to be easy.

I had high hopes for this Lovie Smith plus his staff and they’ve done their best to completely destroy that faith. Their systems have regressed the Texans versus building off the final 5 games of last season. I believe the players may be the next group to quit on these coaches.
Thank you sir Opt you beat me to this. Man exactly

That’s fine, but the shit show he took over isn’t much worse than the shit show he has now.

He brought in the QB. He brought in all those career special teams players and made them starters. He brought in the RB room he has, WRs, LBs, DL, OL, TEs. There’s only 9 players on this team from the 2020 roster and 2 of those are the K and LS.

So yeah, he took over shit, but he hasn’t replaced it with much.

Lets see, He's added Thomas/Collins/Collins/Lopez (Who should be a backup) Tremon Smith for ST's.) Hughes/Nelson/King/Then draft picks this yr. Stingley/Petrie/Green/Pierce/Harris all of whom look like they're potential playmakers and add Metchie.

Bottom line Caserio had a really good draft. But until the OL/DL gets fixed this team is going nowhere. Hopefully this gets fixed this offseason. So far Caserio has upgraded the talent level somewhat, but there's only so many picks to fill the holes. What I worry about is Caserio being forced to draft a QB in this class and the new QB having to work with/learn from Pep/Lovie.

Agree, but he hasn't had a full book of resources either - yes he had extra picks last draft, but no cash to make those big splashy FA signings.
This next off-season will finally give us a full picture.

I dont even think next yr will give a full picture. That wont happen until the 2024 season.

Yeah, gotta give the rookies some time to adjust.
Still we should have a glimpse of their potential after a handful of games.
Early look for me is Stingley and Pitre look like they’re gonna be quality starters for a long time. If Stingley can get better at zone I’ll be very happy with that. Green is struggling, he’s had a couple good games a couple meh games and two really bad games. Obviously you’d like to see more out of a first rounder so this is looking negative so far but we’re not even halfway through his rookie year so I’m optimistic.

Christian Harris has only played two games and they’ve been rough. But his tackling got better the second week already and also we barely have a dline so I think that makes it hard to evaluate him.

The Metchie thing is very unlucky hopefully he comes out ready to go next year. Dameon Pierce so far looks like an absolute steal.

So far I’d say 2022 draft looks meh. I’d push my feelings up to “good” if Green can improve to a consistent quality starter then I’d push that grade up to good

I don't know if Wallow will be anything more than a situational player, but I really liked how he came up and filled the gap on a few plays. The few plays that we actually stopped Henry for little to no gain, Wallow was the one that stuffed the hole, which allowed others to make the tackle.

Green’s best chance at improvement begins and ends with a new Center that can actually do his job. OL has never been 1 piece…it’s 5 pieces that have to fit and mesh.

Center to RT need to be addressed in the draft. Center has to be the top priority. I’d like to see Deculus get healthy so he can start.

Green may be more hurt then we know, upper body something. He has not played as well since he came out in the Raiders game and went back in. Chest, pec, or something. CNDD would know

Green's "chest injury" was a Grade II pectoral strain, which carries a 2-6 week return to FULL function. Meanwhile, he could and did play.......keeping his arm close to his body in order to compensate...........something that would definitely affect his performance (inability to contain his his man outside of his shoulder). Then this last game, he suffered a Grade I hamstring and is not on the Injury Report. He will be increased risk to re-injure playing Thursday.

Just when I really didn’t care what Watson was doing he comes back and gets in our ****.

Doesn’t he have counseling or a massage appointment to get to?

Don't really see this as any new news, but...........I do like the fact that Avery has been exclusively working with Watson during Watson's absence from the Browns............as he has not uncommonly been at odds in philosophy with team coaches.

Browns general manager: Deshaun Watson to start against Texans on Dec. 4

Another NFL arranged event, brought to you by the organization that supposedly champions women's rights and players health. We should all trust the NFL to always do the right thing.

Q's doing his job. Green's pec is more the issue I think

That Titan rush was coming from wherever they wanted it to. Blitz, 4-Man, 3-Man, and I’d even venture to say a 2-Man front would’ve been just as effective at getting pressure on Mills or shutting down the run.

It's Q's job to call and shift protections in this offense. I'm not convinced he's very good at it.

I think this could be part of the reason Mills is antsy sometimes. Last year, he was setting the protections, and I think he probably trusted himself more than he trusts Q.

I agree there's communication issues. We expect that. New Line, new way of doing things. You'd think they would be over that 6 or 7 games in. But things have happened. Green is not playing like he was early. Injury could explain that. McCray replaced Cann last game. McCray isn't very good.

There was one play where McCray & Q double teamed Simmons (I believe) then McCray came off the double to help Howard or pick up a late blitzer (Howard didn't seem to need any help so I'm guessing). He didn't do a good job of pushing Simmons or holding Simmons for Q to get under him. It's possible to believe Q didn't do a good job getting under Simmons. Either could be true, both could be true.

But overall, it looked (to me) Q is doing what he's supposed to do. Green isn't 100%. & McCray is not as good as Cann.

This is something I've wondered and commented on before.

I'm wondering just how much that chest injury is affecting Green. Maybe he needs to sit out until it is healed. Unfortunately, we don't really have anyone else to fill in for him. Someone mentioned moving Deculus inside to Guard, and I think he may be better there, so why not try it. I don't think Deculus could be much worse than McCray or McDermott.
