Week 7 Texans in Vegas

Wasn’t really sure why the Texans fired the last guy (can’t remember his name or be bothered to look it up either) and I wondered what Lovie Smith’s hiring was about. Now I think he’ll be gone at the end of the year too. I really believe that. Lovie, Pep, the whole bunch will be out the door post 2022. No idea what the point of any of this was.

When 4 of our rookies are outplaying the veterans, the first-year HC who picked them is going nowhere.

Starting to think I’ve seen enough of Lovie the defensive coordinator, never mind as head coach. Needs to be 1 and done to me, I love Lovie the guy I’m not enjoying watching his D play, I would not say he’s got a fair crack of the whip in this job, given all the dysfunction that’s gone before, but I don’t see Lovie turning this around, I don’t think his D scheme works anymore, and if it does, he needs to have done a better job of identifying talent in the middle rounds. 2 years in and he hasn’t found a quality player to take forward in his front 7.

I mentioned that I’d like to see Caserio force Lovie to bring in a DC after this season. For the upcoming draft….I don’t think it would matter if a new DC was from a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme.

I still think Lovie's defense can work. However, he needs better play/players/talent on the front seven.

Does everybody still think Caserio is the greatest?

Good to very good….yes. I like to reserve “greatest” for GM’s that built Super Bowl winning organizations. I’m not sure if you were, but I had no plans to purchase SB tickets b/c the Texans made a “Miracle Mets” turnaround in one season. No, I’m just fine with the way Caserio is stacking his chips at the moment.

Considering the talent the Raiders have at the skilled positions, I'm still not impressed with McDaniels. They better give Jacobs that new contract.

If they fall asleep at the wheel….sure wouldn't mind seeing a Jacobs/Pierce duo in Houston.

Mills might be solid for his next team
That's not how it works. After this season we'll sign Jacoby Brissett to a 2 year deal while Mills still learns. Then we'll extend Mills and sign Jared Goff who will beat out Mills for the starting role. Mills will be cut 1 year into extension with some nasty dead cap money. The Texans will finally get their QB in 2028 by drafting Jack Brady (guess who's son)...LOL

The final score was what I expected but I was thinking more of a beatdown throughout the game than a 4th quarter meltdown. Raiders are just way too talented to have the record that they have… they will play better coming out of the bye as they showed today. And imagine what that score would have been if Waller had played…

On the plus side Green made it back into the game. I was worried he had a torn pec.

And Cleveland lost again. Texans could potentially have two top 10 picks like the Jets/Giants had last draft. That infusion of talent makes a difference.

Davis did not get 3 TDs

Pierce did not run for 100

No Texans receiver was close to 100 yards

Mills got 2 TDs on 68% COM and 302 YDS….not to mention 1 ugly PK 6.

Pierce got 92 YDS on 20 Carries….good for 4.6 YPC.

No 100 YD receivers today, but Mills did get the ball to 8 different receivers…..that was pretty nice to see.

Not even remotely true that his game was all wiped away with one bad stare down throw. He played great throughout - made plays with his feet, improvised, was accurate. Sadly, a bad pick but still a real good game. The deficiencies on defense were highlighted more this game.
In my opinion he did. I understand you have a thing for Mills. But in this league a quarterback has to make plays in crunch time situations. So far this season, him and Pep hasn’t live up to the bill.

Before the game starts, Raiders ranked 28th in points allowed; Texans, 13th.

This includes any kind of return for TD, if applicable.

The opponents the two teams had faced probably play a part.

At any rate, it was quite unlikely that 20 points will be enough to win against the Raiders' offense, let alone giving up a pick-six.

Agree to disagree. I think you are 100% incorrect. Mills played a great game, and down two scores with his leading WR out of the game, he forced it. It was a bad force actually as he stared down the receiver. Regardless, Mills made about a dozen good throws/improvizations/ad hoc plays and that is not negated on that last play at all. Pretty obviously, 1 force at the end down 2 scored does not wipe away a game full of very good plays.

I understand you have a thing against Mills, but you're wrong here.

And you’re 100% in correct. Lol off the chains. Mills was solid through three quarters. When it was money time him and Pep stunk up the joint. That’s a fact.

I don't think making 1 mistake all game is stinking up the joint - especially late game, down two scores and down your top WR. So again, disagree. Mills moved the chains all game and was much more than solid - he was good all game. So again, your characterization of Mills play is quite a bit off IMO.

Yea I understand but ya know the ol rant here. Why not just show both games in Texas period no matter the TV station or time. After all there is CBS NBC and Fox heck I've seen it ABC. Bias TV schedulers for the Cowboys first every time. But we know the tune to that one.
This is a Texans away game too. There's only 2 NFL Texas teams c mon man.
The cowboys/lions game for some reason was put on CBS. That’s why it screwed the Texas area out of watching the Texans. CBS could only show one game since fox had the double header.
Stupid AF if you ask me but it is what it is.

Wouldn't the defense look so much better with Anderson/Carter on the front line and then signing a guy like Smith in FA, add a guy like Myles Jack in FA too and this defense will look a lot better. This could happen depending on how bad the Browns are. Also by trading down you could get more picks for next yrs draft and the 2024 draft. The 2024 draft should be a really deep draft.

We have some of the same players on that defense that was here last season. All of them looks like they regressed. Lovie’s defense is old and outdated. Time for some new blood. His son is the LB coach. He needs to be fired ASAP.
This defense is complete garbage. LBs are crap. Lovies system is crap. It’s just all crap.
Mills ain’t the problem. He played well today. Pierce is a HOSS.

I think he did a good job on last yrs draft. Also would you say Collins looks like the future at WR? This is what a rebuild looks like. Embrace the rebuild, the higher the Texans/Browns picks the better. Do you not like Pitre/Green/Pierce/Stingley?
I like Pitre, but he needs to do tackling drills every day until he can get someone down without a whiff or extra 5 yards
