Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

The Astrodome was built with so many redundant systems that it will outlive most other stadiums. It was the first indoor stadium, so they over-engineered it. We have a forum member that works with the county's engineers (he's IT) and has seen the original plans. The engineers he was with were amazed at how well built it is and the design was made to last 100+ years.

If we're honest about it, there was nothing really wrong with the Astrodome with the exception that it's not shiny and new and wasn't specifically built for a single sport like most modern stadiums these days.

I was part of the inspection team as a safety and environmental specialist when they were talking about turning the Astrodome into a museum/hotel. I get that it was engineered and built to last but with the various abuse it has taken over the years, more than a little of that damage had to be deliberate as well, believe me when we dug into the guts of it it would have needed major overhaul to be safe.

Would it have been cheaper to do that then build NRG, most likely yes but it wasn’t just football either that motivated it. Lots of other venues didn’t want to come to an old stadium either.

It's understandable. Thanks for sharing your experience. Even if they poured a bunch of money to spruce it up, the 'dome would never have that modern vibe that you get from the modern stadiums.

The best plans I saw for that property was a Linbeck proposal to turn the footprint into a cool green space that could be used for all kinds of events, including concerts. It had columns for each support beam for the dome that each had an individual memorial to various events from the dome's history. In the middle of the space was a small building built to look like the dome that had a museum, gift shop, and food vendors.

Here's a link to that proposal for anyone interested in checking it out.

I have zero doubt that the NFL pulled the odd number of games out of its butt in order to ensure the high ratings of Watson returning to Houston for his first game back.
They talked about this on NFLN this morning. It's a noon regional game, so unless it's flexed to a prime-time game (not likely) it won't have very many viewers at all

Even without direct evidence, I have zero doubt that the NFL pulled the odd number of games out of its butt in order to ensure the high ratings of Watson returning to Houston for his first game back. They probably salivate about it, because at the end of the day they give zero effs about anything other than higher revenues.

The Texans game was the the game that stood between him getting credit for this year on his contract or it rolling to next year. 47 million dollar game.

That, and the NFL could give a **** about sending a message to serial sexual assaulters, standing by women, or protecting the shield. They only care about money and ratings.

I even hate to bring this up.......................BUT.....................who are the 2 most influential owners in the NFL???? Kraft and Jones. And whose names would be dragged out and hung out to dry if the team Watson and the NFLPA was faced with a 1 year or greater indefinite suspension???
Pretty what I said when posters were saying the NFL wasn't scared of federal court.

Did you not see a broken shoulder Baker win 8 games last year? The AFC north is good, but lets not act like its a gauntlet or something.
It's important to note that Baker's main injury was a labrum tear, in his non throwing shoulder. His "humerus fracture" was actually not a classic fracture. It was actually what is called a "Hill-Sachs lesion." A Hill-Sachs lesion is a compression fracture or more of a "dent" of the posterosuperolateral humeral head that occurs in association with a dislocation of the glenohumeral [shoulder] joint. The "lesion" is in no way a displaced or unstable fracture. The labrum is usually eventually repaired, while the Hill-Sachs lesion seldom needs surgical attention.

Per Mary Cabot:

Watson also acknowledged he doesn’t know if more civil suits will arise.

“I can’t speak on that too much,’’ he said. “Like I said before, all these things that came forward were surprising to me.’’

"Surprising?" After an early refusal to settle the first case?

Has Josh Allen not passed Watson up in accomplishments since becoming a pro?
Look man, I understand Watson hurt your feelings and all, its cool. He's been a disappointment because of the transgressions off the field. Your original quote was he beat a green (inexperienced) Allen. I asked you what year Watson and Allen came out and you stated 2017 and 2018. So how can 2 players, 1 draft class apart be so much greener than the other? Of course Allen has surpassed him ,but there are factors involved. Watson being a creep off the field and not playing for 1 season and now getting suspended for 11 more. Also, Buffalo has added to his arsenal of weapons vs subtracting like they did Watson. Buffalo traded a 1st rd pick for an established wr, paid him big money and continued to draft weapons and also surrounded him with a top tier defense. What did the Texans do? Traded the best wr in the game for a 2nd rd pick and a soon to be cut running back, fired the coach/gm who was making these bad decisons. Its ok, just don't try to act like 2 situations are the same when theyre not.

Allen never quit.

The person that always takes any and all criticism of Watson as a direct/personal attack towards himself really wants to go there? Lol. Facts are facts, and your boy couldn’t hold a candle to Josh Allen (on and off the filed.) By the way, I don’t have anything against you so I’ll just drop it.

We both agree Watson is a talented creep, and although both walked into different situations, Josh Allen has and continues to improve. Bill Obrien did Watson no favors, that’s a fact but Watson is now walking into a young and stacked team. We’ll see how he does in the next 2-3 seasons.

Allen can pick up a blitz. Watson is a one read QB who takes off when that one read isn’t open. And hates throwing from the pocket.

Who in the hell scrambles out of the pocket in PRACTICE? Without the Defense on the field?

Watson was ok with the direction of the team and said how much he admired the owners, the organization, coach OB, and Easterby when he signed his contract extension.

One of the supposed reasons Hopkins was traded was at the request of Watson’s mom talking to Janice McNair. (Now - what OB got in return was all on him. I mean anybody could have gotten more and known that was a bad trade.)

Watson benefited from JJ Watt turning that Buffalo game around. He sparked the come back. Just saying.

From the Haslam Press Conference:

“And I struggle a little bit — is he (Watson) never supposed to play again? Is he never supposed to be part of society? Does he get no chance to rehabilitate himself?

That’s what we’re going to do. And you can say, ‘well that’s because he’s a star quarterback.’ Well of course! But if he was Joe Smith he wouldn’t be on the headlines every day.

**********************************************************************************************************

No. If it were Joe Smith, good ole boy Joe would be in jail.

This is one of the most ridiculous narratives possible. So you really think a guy can be 1 read and throw 100 tds with 30 ints in the nfl? By the way, Josh Allen runs way more than Watson, by a long shot. So is he 1 read, scramble qb too? Look , I get it, he's a creep, he forced his way out and got paid, I get all of that, but to act like he's Rick Mirer or one of those guys is just plain old false. Go find you an all 22 film and watch him scan the field. There is no way in hell a qb on the nfl level is going to throw that many tds with that small amount of ints being 1 read. By the way, Josh Allen has more rushing attempts and more yards rushing than Watson in the same amount of season by a pretty good margin. Does that mean he's 1 read?

So when the lb blew up Ryan in the superbowl and caused the to, didn't that spark the comeback? Nobody on this earth can get me to believe a players mom called an owner to speak about the weakness of her son to another player especially when Hopkins said himself he knew he could force a trade by asking for money. Again, how many times does Hopkins has to say this? Truth be told, any player can be traded, especially in football, but the one sided nature of that trade is what infuriates probably just about everyone on this board. The mere fact most of the teams didn't even know he was on the block and the template of a wr lesser caliber than he went for multiple 1st rd picks is even more ridiculous.

I agree with you on how Hopkins was traded. It was done in the middle of the night and the Texans got nothing for him. The second worse trade in NFL history.

We just agree to disagree and the mama Watson speaking to Janice. It does make sense on the how, why and Hopkins was traded and the results they got for him. OB probably only talked to 2, max 3 teams in the trade. He and Watson destroyed this team.

I don’t hold much weight what players say. They spin their own reality. Look at Watson.

When did they make that "No More" clip?

I went to the YouTube page its posted from and didn't find a date.
342,243 views Oct 22, 2014 Nearly two dozen men of the NFL use their voices, their commitment, and, perhaps most significantly, a new and deeply stirring expression of their formidable power to say NO MORE to domestic violence and sexual assault.

Now, why don't you keep it balanced and show all the poor decisions and poor plays side-by-side to all the plays you picked out??..........there are at least an equal amount available to choose from.
You do know that’s not my video right? I didn’t pick the plays.

that video is not about Watson’s play overall. It’s specifically about his progress playing from the pocket in the context of an NFL offense.

I posted it in response to a guy saying Watson is a one read & run QB.

If you’re going to argue Watson can’t play this game at a high level, you’re just going to frustrate yourself when he’s going to be in the top 10 of most QB stats. Regardless of the bad decisions he makes

First of all, the comments were directed towards the video "analyzer." My comments still stand, the video presentation was unbalanced as Watson still abdicated the pocket way too often when he shouldn't have, even in 2020. I doubt that in the end, I will have any more frustration as Watson has remorse.

Cool. Hard for me to tell

he started with a premise. Chose the plays to prove his point.

If he chose to demonstrate Watson’s happy feet I’m sure he would have chosen different plays.

I agree Watson is not comfortable playing from the pocket. But Bill O’Brien (& I hate Bill O’Brien) did as good a job as could be done transforming Watson from a college QB to an NFL QB.

The people who says Watson is a 1 read qb don't know squat about football or is playing the streotypical dumb black qb narrative. You can go through anyone who played the position at a high level like O sullivan or any of the countless dc's and oc's and they will tell you other wise. If you ever read a scouting report of Brady in NE, they always say take away his 1st read, get him to hold the ball, squeeze the pocket inside out and make him throw outside the numbers. That sounds like a great game plan, especially taken away the 1st read, but high end qb's know what their 1st read is on any play design and they manipulate the coverage with their eyes and get to their 1st read. Watson could improve on playing from the pocket, but I don't know why posters are forgetting Davenport at left tackle,Martin at center and some of those terrible o-lines. We watched Mahomes in the superbowl look like a rookie because of protection breakdowns. He had both tackles and I believe his center missing. He was under duress the entire game. Commentators were talking about him escaping the pocket too early. They bracketed Kelce, inside outside coverage on Cheetah and were wipping the oline with 4 dropping 7. Guess what? That happened alot with Watson and he had Hopkins and a sometimes Fuller.

Pretty sure that's not it at all. It stems from hate. They hate he is who he is, did what he did, & is getting off easy.

Once he's able to play again, most people are going to forget about his transgressions & they hate that too.

So do I. But I'm not going to say the sky isn't blue because of it.

I don't know about that. The same posters who are making or agreeing with these one-read comments were making those comments before the allegations and have felt that way for years. If Watson was here without the allegations and playing out his contract, they would still feel the same way.

I went from typing a witty response to realizing it is 2022.

Watson signs a contract, breaks it months later, uses it as cover for his sexual assault “allegations”, holds the city for ransom a whole year, and never shows remorse or apologizes to his victims.

How the **** are you expecting fans of the Texans to feel about him?

A few posters didn’t like him or his play from the start and that all of a sudden makes them racist?

Maybe they were just right and you have a bigger problem with that you want to label them something they aren’t?

Instead of throwing around accusations maybe we should stop projecting peoples own deep problems?
