Preseason GM 1: Saints vs Texans

David Johnson resembles your remarks.

Pre season game win with Saints playing their backups and possibly guys who double as the person in the mascot costume BUT Texans looked like they were laying the foundation for a solid rebuild and Lovie looked like he actually knew what he was doing as HC. You can certainly tell that he’s a man that has been there before and this is old hat to him.

Not ready to declare us Super Bowl bound, or you know winning season bound, but I also don’t think we’ll be quite the bottom feeders everyone says we will.

I lied earlier in the thread. I wasn't really ready.

I watched a couple of series and then found something else to do.

Just not all in yet and once Mills was pulled I just couldn't muster enough care.

In the time I watched the only player that really stood out to me was pitre who I love.

Looking forward at least watching until halftime next game.

I went out with the family and plan on watching it tomorrow.

Huh, wasn’t the Texans playing their backups and possibly mascots too. I really don’t understand why we have to word things this way. I agree with the rest but it seems like a bunch of Texans fans have to put some type of disclaimer in there.

Put Pierce in bubble wrap. Don’t use up his physicality in preseason games. 17 game regular season and this team will be much more fun to watch if he is playing in all of them!
1st thing some will say is that Pierce was playing against guys who will be bagging groceries in 4 weeks.

& that’s true. But we saw RoyceFreeman playing against the same scrubs & the difference was staggering. Pierce was a man among boys.

So yes, it would be nice to see him playing with the 1st team, but I’m sure we’re going to see more Marlon Mack. & I’m ok with that. Leave something to look forward to for the regular season.

Other than Mills and maybe a couple of others can you really tell the difference between our starters and our backups? Don’t get me wrong I’ll take the win and I was happy with what I saw but I think this game meant way more to the Texans than it did the Saints win or lose.

Cook, Nico, Tunsil, Howard and Green didn’t play. The first two series was very short lived, therefore we really didn’t see anything from that bunch. I can’t really answer that question. To me I was mainly focused on the youngster and the free agents fighting for a spot on the 53 man roster.

He was more like a football King from a college scene if you know what I mean? I said I don't mind but what do you mean he is the one? Who will dance on the field in the round? He told me his name was Davis Mills and he said he was the one. And he caused a scene on this message board. I said maybe but so far Billie Jean .. er Davis Mills you are not the one. And I danced on the floor in the round.

It really wasn't bad at all for the first preseason game.
Hey Pitre & Pierce both looked real good and also don't forget the 5th round pick in this years Draft from Stanford who got a sack.
And Lovie does have a presence about him and I'm confidant he gets the undivided attention of each player he speaks to.

I think Lovie and Pep are a great fit. I would like to see them coach together for a while successfully.

Agreed.
It's just getting thru to some people, that change isn't an instant thing.
Look for the improvements and celebrate the building till those pieces all click.
I do get it.
As a Texans fan. We've had more than our share of cloud 9's, only to be dropped free fallen.
Not every team can win the Super Bowl every year though.
There are those that fall behind, that's what would make that trophy taste so good to the Texans.
Knowing what the bottom feels like many times.
That's why we watch, buy tickets, gear, have our 30th birthday be Texan themed (not my bday today BTW. That was nine years ago, LOL).
We understand loss, but are eager every year for the stage.
I'd rather stick thru this than constantly have to be buying a different teams stuff every year.
The KC fans that mysteriously showed up in my area and the disappearance of the NE fans....this one should be on unsolved mysteries.

Why do we do this every single year? The wins and losses don't mean anything.

What matters is guys getting reps and kinda how they look doing so. Watching Pierce last night gives one hope. Then again, Scottie Phillips had 66 yards averaging 5.0 YPC in last year's pre-season opener and the Texans had 170 yards rushing. Doesn't really mean much.

What are you really hoping to see from a Jeff Driskel led offense with Johnny Johnson and Jalen Camp? I mean, Driskel had 80 yards passing (3.8 Y/A), 1 TD, 3 INT, from when he took over late in the 1Q until before the final drive. And a nice 2 minute drive it was, but hardly any of those players will be on the field come Sep. 11.

Nice to see the rooks out there making plays and contributing, Pierce, Pitre, Booker, etc. But other than that, there's really nothing for fans to get out of these games. The team you saw last night, and will see Friday night, and again the following Thursday night, is nowhere close to the team you will see on Sep. 11. It's not the same game, it's not the same game planning, it's not the same strategy, it's not the same playbook.

Yea, they got a W. Well, David Culley's team was 2-0 after 2 preseason games last year.

Optimism just seems better than draping ourselves in the piss drenched wet blankets of which you seem to have an endless supply.
Sorry, I don't share your misery.
Stay high.

NFL+ has those features…plus game replay for all the teams once the live feed is done. A must for those of us out here in the Midwest who cannot get a Texans game unless it’s Primetime.

Blessings…
The Texans need to do better. I mean I can watch all of the Astros and Rockets games out here in West Texas. I was able to watch every other NFL team games, especially the teams in our division. I’m seriously thinking writing Cal a letter since he spoke on how important his fan base are to them. We’ll have these joker uplift the freaking blackouts. I felt like I was back in the 40/50’s listening to the game on the radio.

You go from screaming for joint practices to prepare for the regular season to now saying preseason games and individual performances don’t matter.

Tell me, who hurt you? Was it the Oilers? Was it when they moved?

Show us on the doll where the mean person touched you.

I want joint practices so the players who will actually be on the field Sep. 11, you know, when all this shit matters, can get some reps in against another teams starters, instead of the bullshit 6 snaps they got last night. What is so ******* hard to figure out about that?

A preseason game where most of what you're watching will either be coming off the bench or won't even have a job in 2 weeks, doesn't tell you anything about your team.

But hey, if you want to have a parade for winning preseason games, more power to you.

I think I’m the only one who posted anything about the Texans winning. But I’m contrarian & not taken seriously, so I know this isn’t in response to me.

anyone else making an issue about whether this game was won or lost, or is this an interior dialogue expressed in public media?

I’m optimistic because of what we saw from the DL late in the game. I’m not expecting elite pass rush, even from our “starters” but I liked the hustle I saw from Rivers, Okoronkwo, & Hinish.

Hopefully the Texans will be able to manage a rotation that will generate constant pressure for 4 Qtrs. I agree these guys may not make the team, but the hustle this deep in the depth chart is, hopefully, a good sign.

Felt like I was the only one who saw it. Board was dead there, after the game. As if everyone had already checked out before the 2 minute warning. Good to see I’m not the only one with nothing better to do on a Saturday night

And that's fine. But what you saw late in the game last night isn't going to be what you see on Sep. 11. That's all I'm saying.

What I didn't see was Collins doing much of anything, never mind seeing where he's at against Roby or Lattimore or Mathieu, whoever it is they're using. Nice game for Jalen Camp and all, but he will not be on this team in 2 weeks, unless it's practice squad. I didn't see the defense trying to stop Kamara. You know, we've got Jonathan Taylor in week 1. I didn't see Stingley or Nelson against Thomas or Landry. In a scrimmage, those matchups take place. Granted, it's still not live bullets, but it's better than the 6-10 snaps that some of those guys got last night. And most saw zero snaps. That's all I'm saying.

I liked what I saw from Pierce. But I also liked what I saw from Scottie Phillips last year. So what does that mean? It means it's preseason and 75-90 players are rotating in and out of the game, with a good portion of those looking for jobs in 2 weeks.

While I generally agree with this post, do you make it your mission to make your posts come off as condescending?

If so, mission accomplished.

I conceded that.

They made it look like they were playing Kamara

Consider me the choir. I agree with you on this point.
So what does that mean?
Nothing. Well, we’re closer to the regular season. I watched a lot of football this weekend. Life is good

As friendly reminder you can’t use the preseason as a predictor for the regular season.

The 2008 Detroit Lions would agree with that statement.

This is what preseason is about. Seeing individual players play with the team. Not worried about the outcome.

Show me where I am celebrating a win.

And BTW - starters usually play the most against other starters by the third preseason games. Usually it’s a half.

Tampa and Miami just held JS. You don’t think some players that are going to get cut played in those practices?

Seriously - I feel like these posts “what are y’all happy for? It’s just preseason comes out every preseason.” With the usually reply “I am just keeping it real.” Everyone knows it’s preseason and knows winning in the preseason doesn’t matter.

But hey, I don’t know much, but it’s not your fault. Look at me son - It’s not your fault. It’s not your fault.

The Texans... DID win though... just sayin.

Preseason or regular season.... when I don't expect to be saying it much for the season...I'll say it when I can.... you know what they say... if ya don't use it you lose it..... my vocabulary is already lacking.... I don't need to relearn words and things.
