I’m a football fan and as long as the Houston Texans are around I will be a Texans fan. That said, I’m excited to see what kind of headway we can make this year but I don’t expect the playoffs. It will be cool to see how Mills does and what other pieces we can put in place. It’s like a new beginning. Go Texans.

With O'Brien and Watson now in our rear-view mirrors and the preacher neutered of any football-related decisions, the future is looking up.

I'm actually looking forward to the draft for the first time in several years, as well as looking forward to the season. I don't expect a playoff team, but I do expect improvement and I'll now be enjoying the ride of seeing Nick and Lovie slowly build a team.

This sums it up for me.

Is he neutered though? I mean his boy would be HC if it weren’t for the Flores fiasco.
I know the rumors, but I've also heard from trusted sources that Cal made the decision to hire Lovie and was never on board with McCown.

But, I get your perspective, and it's one that is valid as long as the snake oil salesman is in the building.

That said, I do believe that Lovie is not taking any direction or advice from the guy, which is why I consider him effectively neutered until proven otherwise. Obviously, take it fwiw.

$10 million 2021 + embarrassment + PR and ticket sales hit + whatever else you have against DW is what Houston got for him worth it? Not canceling each other but would you choose to go thru it if you knew results would be this?

Yep. For now, it's time to just sit back, relax, and watch the Texans show. We're getting our first real draft in ages with a new GM and HC. It will certainly be entertaining and totally worth second guessing them on the spot. And maybe people will quit ******* talking about ******* Watson for an hour or so.

Yes

But I wouldn't have drafted him to begin with.

Thanks RS, the McNair's are getting what they asked for when they hired the people they hired.

Re-up:

Watson trade, FA signings and Tunsil reworked. Your position changed or are you now willing to voice opinion?
My original post is still true. However, I do like what I've seen so far. I'm curious about how things are going to turn out, but I'm not rearranging my schedule to watch them until I see them start winning meaningful games in big situations (playoff games).

The sun set on the 2022 draft and as with most drafts my hopes for Texans future sank a bit due to injuries of so many of draftees. The sun rising this morning {well it did rise but is hidden behind rain clouds; I hope that is not symbolic of our future!} and as always my optimism is kicking in. No reason to debate here players strengths or weakness as other threads cover that. I am more enthused by the Brandin Cooks extension and Tunsil's rework plus bringing in Rasheem Greene contract amount and distribution not announced yet. All three I expect to be significant in the rebuild or whatever you choose to call it. The Greene acquisition as I noted when announced he had made a visit to Houston was not only a good signing but IMO allowed Nick/Lovie to not use a value pick.

The insurance of having two round ones in next two drafts somewhat mitigates the risk of Stingley not able to sign second contract with Houston. I think Car sterio covered his butt er contract with evidence that the LSU product should bring 2-3 very good seasons minimum buying Nick time to build roster. Stingley despite the controversy of his Lisfranc will create fan and media attention in positive way and Mrs. McNair will welcome that.

I hope to see better team play and improvement of key players like Mills, Tytus Howard (if at RT) and Greenard.

Kinda excited to watch our Defense and see if our run game can set Mills up with a real opportunity.
I’m not so excited about watching the defense.

I need to watch that Green guy some more. He sounds like a Martin replacement, but I was hoping for an upgrade.

I’ll also be paying attention to what’s going on inside through training camp. Blacklock had flashes last season. Lopez was solid but needs to take the next step.

If they’re not wrecking havoc in the preseason I fear we’ll be disappointed with our pass rush

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
To the original poster’s question….the same type of fan I was in 2002 and all the way back to the Oilers beginning in 1969 when we moved to Houston after my Dad retired from the US Army.

Bigger question…..when will the Texans reward fans who’ve stuck by them since the beginning?

I was kinda concerned about our pass rush too.
Getting Greenard some help on the other side was/is a high priority - fingers crossed that Rashad Green is good enough to make an impact on his side and that should open up opportunities for LBer's and other rushers.
