The Official Houston Texans Draft Days Discussion Thread

I'm saying look at every wr that has come through GB and they were all 2nd rd picks except Walker. The problem with GB is they never have 2 of them clicking at the same time nor do they go get that extra threat. Look at how those wr's have fared once they left Rodgers. He's a king maker. There are alot of high caliber wr's left on the board. Different body types too

I agree with all you have said but it doesn’t change the fact Rodgers has been unhappy with how much they have forced him to make chicken salad. Also yes there are a lot of WRs left but there are also a lot of teams, including us, picking before GB that really need WRs.

Stingley Jr. possesses elite athleticism - he is one of the most talented players in this draft.

While there are durability concerns, his relentless work ethic allowed him to overcome adversity and fight his way back from injury ahead of schedule.

He would not have fallen outside the top 10. Stingley impressed NFL teams at the LSU Pro Day.

Was his selection a stretch at 3 a stretch? Absolutely not. It is premature to write him off.

Nobody is questioning his talent or work ethic and while coming back from injury ahead of schedule sounds good let’s not forget JJ would often come back from injury way ahead of schedule but then get injuries again. Difference is it was happening to him on the back side of his career, Stingley could have it happen at the start of his.

I feel obligated to point something out.

In post 555 Penguin did infact "like" my post. I'm not sure if his fin typo'ed, maybe the site had a crash from draft traffic, or maybe Putin hacked the site?

This is probably just a glitch in the matrix.

I should go to bed.

Nah.

Beer me.

I'm just glad Caserio kept Green at home. He's the best run blocker on the team right now and Tunsil will benefit from this pick. In short the OL just got alot better. Very powerful, this is a Warhop pick.
Zion has 34" arms is stronger, faster and quicker than Green.

Aaron Wilson @AaronWilson_NFL

Nick Caserio: 'It was a fairly productive start for us' on drafting Derek Stingley Jr. and Kenyon Green.

Nick Caserio on Kenyon Green: 'We got there at 13 Philly wanted to come up, we ended up picking up three extra picks. We slid back and picked Kenyon, really productive, consistent player' Added more of 'an inside player. Blue collar, humble, works his ass off'

Nick Caserio said Texans had opportunity at No. 15 to move back to No. 20, but thought it would take them out of the running for too many players.

Nick Caserio: 'Off to a decent start, still a long way to go. Definitely some good football players that are out there.'

Nick Caserio said he will 'recalibrate' and determine if more trades make sense Friday

Nick Caserio: 'Derek (Stingley) runs well, plays the ball well, plays with good technique,'

Nick Caserio on Derek Stingley playing against the best in SEC @LSUfootball: 'Anytime you can see players against top-level competition, it's pretty significant.'

Nick Caserio on first-round trends 'The league works in cycles. How teams draft is going to work cyclically. You have to be adaptable and be able to pivot.'

Nick Caserio on Kenyon Green: 'Grew up here, understands football. His family is here, your support system matters. Ultimately, the most important thing is to play well.'

Nick Caserio said that the Texans contemplated another move-back scenario from No. 15 where they selected Kenyon Green, and emphasized that it's about what you potentially miss out if team had moved back to No. 20.

Nick Caserio noted 'emotional experience' for the draft picks when he informs them they've been selected. 'To present a young kid an opportunity is a pretty unique opportunity. You're putting a lot of trust and faith in that person. Hopefully, they reciprocate.'

Texans general manager Nick Caserio said there was some dialogue about moving back into first round after picking at No. 15

Nick Caserio didn't indicate whether Texans will or won't exercise fifth-year club option for Tytus Howard. He said Texans will make a decision in best interest of organization. Texans like Howard's versatility a lot and he was praised this week by Lovie Smith

I dont know about stronger. Green's base is very strong and his movement skills are very underrated. Green really impressed me going against Alabama's Will Anderson playing LT and shutting Anderson down. Nobody did that all yr and Green was playing out of position.

Malik Wills at 37 sounds pretty good. I know the current strategy seems to be build a team for a rookie QB drafted next year, but he has a lot of raw potential.

All their highlights of Stingley were of him getting burned.

Maybe he can be a spokesman for Aloe Vera…..everyone knows it’s good for burns.

I was hoping Kareem Jackson would get the gig when the Texans drafted him and kept trying to make him a CB.

All kidding aside, if Stingley’s foot is healthy….he’ll make all of us happy.

Hate that little word if. Why do we have to have a if he is healthy player. I surely hope he does play as well as stay healthy. If not Nick will be taking to the woodshed and back.

Caserio says they had an opportunity to move down to 20 with Steelers also. Unclear whether it was from 13 initially or at 15 after their first trade down. I wonder in hindsight and seeing the board shake out if he would have moved down again to add more draft capital.

A move 13 for 20 would have most assuredly involved a 2nd round pick, 15 to 20 would have likely gained at least a 3rd and other late pick.

Chargers took Zion at 17 and Saints took Penning 19. Texans got the number 1 CB and OG on their board. It appears they agreed with several posters here on which needs were greatest.

They should go edge with #37 if I am following their philosophy correctly - or maybe a WR.
I would be very happy with Nik Bonitto, but we will have to sweat out 4 other teams eyeing him before we pick at #37.
It is possible Carstereo could trade back up into the second if they have a guy pencilled in as a must have - I think we still have 11 more picks, if my math is correct and that gives us plenty of chips to throw around.

They say that Kenyon Green had a bad Combine. I contend that Kenyon had a typical normal Kenyon Green Combine. He is who he is. IMO if you're going to draft an OG in RD 1 you want someone who can bench 30+ times (Strange 31, Johnson 32) Green only 20. I want a 1st RD OG who can run a sub 5.20 40 (Strange 5.03, Johnson 5.18) Green 5.24. I want a 1st RD OG who runs a sub 5.0 20-yard shuttle, (Strange 4.5, Johnson 4.6) Green 5.12.

Two thoughts here, either Green doesn't have the same dedication and desire to be the very best, and/or Jimbo Fisher needs to really step up his strength and conditioning program because it seems like most of the Aggies did not perform as well as their competitors. For me, watching the Aggie performances at the Combine were big disappointments overall.

Texans missed on this draft pick. Zion should've been the pick. And the really BIG miss was NOT drafting the best DT in this draft, Devonte Wyatt.

IMO - Stingley is boom or bust. We won't know if we got a gold mine or just the shaft until we see Derek make a hard plant and a 90-degree strong push-off cut on that foot 100 times and still be able to cover like he was the 2019 Derek Stingley Jr.

I love Wyatt,

Green is going to be a great player for a long time.

To be stronger Zion sure didn't play like it. He was more of a technician than an impose your will kinda guy Zion is a good player though. So is Green, it's the reason they went 15-17th.

Love Wyatt

I think Stingley fits the D and to be fair Nick and Lovie have a great track record of drafting DBs throughout their careers, but I am more concerned that they ignored our need in both trenches. I think OL is a glaring need. I hope someone good is there in a few picks
Nah, Lovie does, Nick really don't. Everyone know hoodie is a wizard with dbs. I mean he turned JC Jackson into all pro and Malcolm Butler into a probowl caliber defensive player

Do anyone see or have the Texans draft room video? I haven’t came across it yet.

That's any player drafted. There are no sure shots.
Stingley has performed rather poorly over the last two years. He has yet to perform at the level before he was injured. So far this is the single biggest reach in this draft. You don't find this with most players drafted.

Has he played post surgery yet?

After painfully listening to the entire Nick Cliche press conference about the Caserby draft I have a message for Lovie. Lovie going forward you need to make your own mistake and don't let others make mistakes for you. Stand firm in what you believe and want. If you don't you will end up like Matt Millen.

One unfortunate thing about Round 2 is that no QB needy teams are picking before us so there are gonna be other positions that we need picked before us.
Only chance we see a QB or two go before us is that one or more of those teams trade up.

Devonte reportedly had character issues including repeated domestic violence issues

Thanks for pointing out as I read that thinking he meant at #15 he had opportunity with Pittsburgh and didn't take it. If so, a major blunder IMO. He would have gotten Green or Zion at #20 based on how draft unfolded plus as you say 3.84 and 4.138 which would have been huge.

That's what it seems like to me. I've never seen an entire draft class from a big time school perform so miserably. But, the Underwear Olympics is not the be all and end all of a player's NFL fortune. I've see Kenyon play. And kick arse. He'll be fine.

Hindsight always 20/20. I’m sure if Caserio saw how many CBs are still on board day 2 he would be reconsidering strategy at 3. Unless they had Stingley THAT much better. But most mocks had more CBs drafted and I didn’t see any that had Mcduffie taken in the 20s and few with Booth out of the 1st.

I think it was clutchpoint or clutchfans that projected Ebetike at 37 while Tankathon and Drafttek go safety.

See, there you go acting like you have a clue of what any team draft board look like. Me personally, I would've taken Sauce, but if not for injury, most everyone know Stingley is the better option. If the Texans take Sauce and the Jets take Stingley, is it still a reach? Reach is your assumption, not real life.

agree on Zion and NFL.comcombine said Green weakness is getting into second level which seems to be mandatory if we want a run game. Another reason I have Car sterio missing on his picks. TBF Green supposedly can stand his ground which does protect Mills.

i see the Likes button. How do I even dislike?
well first it begins in the mind when something, a whisper or conscience or Auntie Matilda from great beyond tells you something ain't right. It works through your brain pan like a pin ball or a trickling, meandering stream gradually becoming greater and ends up in your heart. You just must say something and then your mind takes over again... should I post or just let it go away? NO!! You realize it will not go away! It eats at you like a Walking Dead zombie and you must you simply must RESPOND!

So in vindictiveness you place the cursor over the like area of your screen and ponder the options. A thumbs down could do it or even an upside down smile but wait---

Are you a man or a mouse?

Well first it begins in the mind..
