How many games do you want to win in 2022?

Right.
This is a rebuild team, not a win now one.
In the NFL there's not a huge gap between the two.. You can go from last to first real fast. I expect us to still be alive for a playoff spot the last month of the season, but I'm also very high on Mills and think we got a absolute steal with that pick, so we'll see.

There's something about the kid.. He is a outlier 3rd round QB.. talent/ability wise. This next season is completely unpredictable.. hit on our picks, We could be challenging for the division.

I'm with you on the surprise run towards the playoffs, but I tend to think it will build towards the end of the regular season - the team gradually gets better and better as they start to gel and really get familiar with each other and the coaches schemes.

Expect 6-7 wins if the draft goes well.

I thought this last season when Tennessee & Indy stumbled out of the gate.

I don't think that's going to happen this season. Those are solid 10 win teams.

If Houston is an 8 win team, I think a Wildcard would be out of reach in December.

How many wins do you think it will take for a Wildcard?

I don't know where y'all think all of these wins are coming from. As of this moment, they haven't done much of anything to improve the team, adding the same type of low end FAs as they did last year. Still need everything, CBs, pass rush, run game, WRs. Even after the haul they get in the draft, that's still a lot of rookies that have to hit.

I'm thinking 7 is the floor.
Texans have plenty going for them - especially if Mills' progression continues and we have success with several draftees.
Things have to be more upbeat down on Kirby now.
I feel like they are a 6-7 win team.
If Mills develops well.
If the draft goes well.

I just can't get on board with a 7 win floor. Until proven otherwise the floor is 4 wins to me.
7 wins is more likely the ceiling than the floor imo

Either we need to be around .500 or close to it with Mills showing he is our long term solution or we need to win about 4-5 games and get another top 5 pick so we can call our shot in 2023 draft for QB having 2 2023 1st round picks (one top 5) and 2 2024 1st round picks to play with. A ho hum 6-7 win season is what I fear though.

If they hire on the draft they will win 6-7 games

I would rather see consistency in improvement in all games, win or lose rather than inconsistent up and down wins to losses if you get what I mean. 6-11 to 7-10 with consistency would show us a lot towards the level of improvements that have been made, not only in player improvements but in overall leadership and organization as well. But if by some fluke we squeak an 9-8 to a 10-7, well I may just crap myelf a green turkey for sure! texanpride

Looking at the 2023 nfl draft makes me want one more year of team building over winning. To think we could have two of CJ Stroud, Will Anderson jr and Keylee Ringo is as exiting as it gets. Imagine our defense with Ringo opposite Stingley and Anderson JR opposite Greenard. Now imagine those players just out of reach because we won a few meaningless games this year. Hopefully Mills puts together a year that solidifies him as our franchise QB but doesn’t somehow translate into wins. Not sure how that’s possible but this next draft could be the one that finally boost this teams talent level to respectability. So I’m hoping for a lot of close losses.

Sorry friend, I can’t get on board with this line of thinking. If we ever become a good team & are consistently drafting at the end of the round, we’re still going to have to find a way to draft well.

So let the coaches & players do all they can 110% to win. & let them win as many games as they should. Develop that habit, develop that expectation.

& let the GMs & scouts manage draft picks & work the draft. If that means acquiring picks by trading players or trading for future picks & trading three picks to acquire 1 player, so be it.

Absolutely. Draft well and the rest is history.

Just this year if we took a poll on who will be the Texans most valuable offensive and defensive rookie its not the first round picks. It’s second round Pitre and fourth round Pierce.

UDFA Hinish and 5th round Booker have outplayed 2nd round Blacklock throughout camp. 6th round Lopez was a starter as a rookie. Davis Mills looked better than #1 overall Trevor Lawrence last season and he was the 8th QB selected in that draft.

Don’t worry about where you’re picking worry about WHO you pick and what they do when the games start.

I watch football hoping the Texans win everytime. It would be weird to be rooting for the team to “keep it close! But don’t win! There might be a really talented player we may or may not pick if we lose!”

Spot on. I’m calling you the ultimate voice of reasoning around these parts.

Good stuff as usual.

I generally agree with this philosophy because I hate to lose. But if losing the last game of the season means drafting Will Anderson, then I'm on board with taking the L then I'm ok with it.

Right, if they play to win, then lose I'm not too worried about it. But if they play to lose then we're looking at a 10 year rebuild regardless who they draft.

Four to six wins is what I've been saying for this season, and nothing's changed my mind yet. Preseason had a nice flair to it, but it's preseason. When the real games start we'll find out what we have.

This thread wasn't really about win predictions, but how many games you want to win.

This thread was started before the draft, around the beginning of FA. Based on the number of games you wanted to win, this thread was started to get you thinking about what you would do if you were the GM.

Now, about two weeks from week 1 of the regular season we can look back see what Caserio did & try to discern his intentions.

I don't think he's aiming for a top 5 pick. I don't think he's tanking
