After Day 3 of the Combine I am expecting there to be major changes to draft bords and mock drafts. I wouldn't be surprised to see changes to picks 1, 2 and 3. If you haven't watched the Combine and you get a chance to watch the DL and Edge/DEs it is fun and entertaining. Several great performances.

The perfect DE for the Lovie Smith defense:
Travon Walker, 6050, 272, 10 3/4 hand, 35 1/2 arm, 84 1/4 wing
and

Among the DEs, the major exception was Georgia’s Trayvon Walker who measured in at a sculpted 6-5, 272 with 35.5-inch arms and 10.5-inch hands. In fact, Walker may be the most dominant player in Indianapolis this week after he ran a now official 4.51 40 with a 1.62 split and a 35.5-inch vertical. And all that appears to have people definitely talking about him as a legit top 5-10 prospect.

After watching 3 days of the combine this is the yr to build the foundation on the OL/DL for yrs to come. This is a yr with unreal athletes on both sides of the line. Some of the best I've seen in all of my yrs as a draftnik. I want to wait and see the DB's tomorrow, but after today my draft board has really changed. My next mock will reflect this.

I know Sauce is #5 he should check that box tomorrow. So all we need are four above him and 5 below him, just in case. Shouldn't be this hard but know it is :wesmantexanfan:

For example, Keyvon, self-inflicted wounds to his draft profile, comes off as bit of a Diva and I'm a fan of his. Does he fall outside top 10 and replaced with Trevon Walker? Hutchinson didn't impress me either but least he competed. QB class below average. Neal chose not to compete. Everything seems wide open to me.

As of right now I've got

1.Neal
2. Davis
3.Hamilton
4.Hutch
5. Sauce
6. Walker

This is how much Davis impressed me today and it wasn't just his unreal 40 time. It was how fluid he looked in the drills. I've never seen a man that size with that fluid of feet.

Any of these guys and I will be very happy.

What does being Nigerian have anything to do with it?

oKOye had basically the same background as Ekwonu. From a family of Dr.'s in Nigeria.

This is a case of burn me once but you can't burn me twice.

I'm not opposed to picking Nigerian players in the later rds. But not in the 1st three rds.

Why are you not opposed to drafting white qbs since David Carr was a bust?

I have never seen, one school draft class (14) like Georgia come out and dominant a combine like it’s their encore to National Championship. Somehow we have to separate all that buzz from the reality of life in the NFL, positional value, future growth/potential and team needs.

QB position is really in demand. Drafting one is risky proposition based off mostly traits with tape lacking elite production. This may work in Texans favor in resolution of Watson trade, I’m hopeful. If he was in this class, despite all this positional talent, probably go to Detroit #2. Hope they realize this and trade #2 pick for him along with pick #34 (they still hold the Rams pick #32).

That could return Texans to respectability and get fans back in their seats.

Sauce & Cross

Jermaine Johnson & Trevon Burks

Think about what could have been. Jermaine Johnson transferred from Georgia, and possibly their best edge rusher, Adam Anderson, was arrested on 2 counts of sexual assault.

NFL Draft
Like Kalon Barnes, he began as a WR. His hand size seems to have been a negative in his collegiate performance, in that he has been notorious for bumbling potential interceptions all too often. A big plus is that he is not afraid of contact even against the run.

Tariq Woolen, UTSA CB | NFL Draft Scouting Report

Written ByOliver Hodgkinson
January 10, 2022

UTSA cornerback Tariq Woolen is the center of intrigue ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft, and his scouting report reveals exactly why.

What's in this article?

Following their most successful season ever, UTSA could have more players selected to the NFL in one year than in the entire history of the program. Cornerback Tariq Woolen projects to be one of their top prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft. The former wide receiver has attracted attention with his incredible athletic profile, but does he have the skills to pay the bills in the NFL? Woolen’s scouting report is brimming with potential.

Tariq Woolen NFL Draft Profile
  • Position: Cornerback
  • School: UTSA
  • Current Year: Redshirt senior
  • Height: 6’3 3/8″
  • Weight: 205 pounds
  • Wingspan: 79″
  • Arm: 33 1/2″
  • Hand: 8 5/8″

Tariq Woolen Scouting Report

In their young history, UTSA has only had two players drafted to the NFL via the annual selection event. Tight end David Morgan II was a sixth-round pick in 2016. Two years later, the New Orleans Saints traded up to select defensive end Marcus Davenport in Round 1. This year, UTSA could have as many as three prospects make the leap to the NFL.

Running back Sincere McCormick has attracted significant attention as one of the best in the business. As he’s paved the way for McCormick, offensive lineman Spencer Burford has earned a Senior Bowl invite. However, it’s UTSA cornerback Woolen who is drawing the most intrigue from NFL Draft scouts. While he won’t ascend Davenport’s lofty selection, he could be the first of this year’s trio to hear his name called.

Woolen’s scouting report shines a light on why he’s drawing such intrigue. The former wide receiver has only played his new position for two years. Yet, his athletic profile is exceptional, and in an era where NFL teams will bet on athletic upside and coach up the technical element, there are not many better athletes to work with.

At 6’4″ and 205 pounds, Woolen is a tall, physical cornerback whose size makes him a tantalizing prospect on the outside at the NFL level. Although that size is important, the UTSA cornerback is blessed with other exceptional measurements. Reportedly, he has 33 1/4-inch arms with a 78 3/8-inch wingspan.

A rare physical specimen

Woolen is a rare physical specimen in that regard. But that’s not even the most exciting element of his scouting report. From that frame, he has a reported 4.34 laser-timed 40-yard dash and an 11’5″ broad jump. Those are eye-watering testing numbers for a player of his size. The word “freak” shouldn’t be bandied around freely when describing athletes, but that is exactly what Woolen is.

Although NFL teams are willing to bet on athletic traits, there has to be some evidence that there is a modicum of technical ability to develop. Not only is that evident in Woolen, but he’s also demonstrated some progress in that regard already. As a wide receiver turned cornerback with only two years of experience, there is, of course, room for improvement, which we’ll get to shortly. However, there’s been a clear development thus far.

Woolen demonstrates some physicality and technical prowess at the point of attack. In press coverage, he uses his length to jab at the point of the snap and demonstrates good all-around hand usage in this phase. His footwork has also improved, allowing him to mirror receivers and not give up easy separation on release. He routinely uses his long arm to feel for the receiver throughout the route.

Naturally, his speed allows him to maintain sticky coverage throughout the route. However, Woolen also showcases more than pure speed. The UTSA cornerback has a fluidity of movement. Once again, his footwork as he transitions from backpedal to run has taken strides as he has become a more experienced cornerback.

Woolen combines size, speed, and physicality

The physicality demonstrated on release is evident elsewhere in Woolen’s game. At the catch point, he is capable of using his size and frame to outmuscle his opponent. Here, his length also comes into play, as he is able to get his arm around and make a play on the ball. Woolen has also shown a propensity to use his physicality against the run, laying a heavy hit when meeting his opponent with clear contact.

Despite his relatively inexperienced defensive career, Woolen has also showcased some versatility. He has been aligned as an outside cornerback on both sides of the formation. Additionally, he’s seen some reps in the slot, and he’s even been aligned as a single-high safety. With his size and athletic profile, there is potential that Woolen could transition to that latter role at the next level.

Areas for improvement

THE REST OF THE STORY

Think about what could have been. Jermaine Johnson transferred from Georgia, and possibly their best edge rusher, Adam Anderson, was arrested on 2 counts of sexual assault.

Anybody heard what's up with Anderson's case?

It doesn't look good for him.

I don't know about the case, but a judge has allowed Anderson to perform at Georgia's pro day.

If he beats the rap I would give up a 2nd in the supplemental draft for Anderson. He's a very talented edge rusher. (Sarcasm)

For those disappointed by K. Hamilton’s numbers at the combine, here’s a decent article comparing his results to other great safeties.
Article

40 yard dash was his only poor number far as I can tell. If I remember watching his run he stood up too quickly and looked like he didn't have a track background in terms technique and running style. He is plenty fast enough in cleats.

I used to love watching the combine...

But now, other than getting player body measurements I really don't put much stock in it at all tbh.

I think the senior bowl practices and game is more informative tbh.

To each his own but Combine is my type of entertainment. Best part is getting to know the players, background (would like more) to go with tape, drills, etc… some very amazing people besides football players. The medicals are the big piece, not the workouts but those remain private for most part, only Cloak could decipher.
This Combine more than anything was affirmation of Georgia National Championship with exclamation point!

I agree with you! I think Hamilton is going to be a Pro Bowler, but I’ve seen plenty of people here and other places that were ragging on him.

I still like watching WR drills

Yeah, WR drills are pretty cool...

I mean, any drill where they are doing actual football stuff is always cool to me...

I just mean stuff like the 40 and bench press and the athletic feats and stuff....

It's cool to talk about and see who the freaks are, but when it comes to actually playing football I would not move anybody up or down (unless they went to a small school and/or didn't have much film) based on their combine numbers.

Like I saw some stuff about Hamilton and Hutchinson reading around the interwebs...People moving Hamilton down because of 40 time is silly to me. Brian Dawkins ran 4.6...Ed Reed and Sean Taylor were both 4.5+ guys....

And then Hutchinson, I don't get at all...If you are going to look at numbers for a DE, I'd look at the cone and Shuttle...Huthinson had the fastest time out of the DE's in both drills and in the 3 cone which I think would matter the most, he had the second fastest time ever recorded by a DE. Only DE with a Faster 3cone drill was 6'3" 245lb Bruce Irvin. Meanwhile, 6'7" 260 lb Hutchinson was only .03 seconds slower.

Hutchinson would have placed top three in WR's for 3 cone drill...and would have been tied for 2nd in WR's for 20 yard shuttle...

Taylor was a while ago, same with Dawkins, those numbers are no longer applicable to the modern day combine prospect, its kinda of a big deal now, then it wasn't. Guys didn't train, supplements and diets have vastly improved, which I think is a lot to your point in the fabrication of these faster numbers and it pays. Safety is also a more bulky position too, carrying extra weight to unload and punish, not as much how fast they get there as much as how much impact. Having said that, Hamilton didn't look like he had been training for it, right back to your old school safeties. His hips were surprisingly tight, footwork uneven and in general not a top prospect quality workout. Those are just the facts. Now Sauce Gardner was something else. Very long and fluid, in and out of breaks. Smooth, quick acceleration, stops on a dime, change of direction elite. Looks like he has big hands and catches the ball easily, with control. I could watch him all day. He should not only go before Hamilton it shouldn't even be that close. I'm fine with Hutchinson, but even his ceiling is nowhere near Sauce. Everybody's big board will be different, it's just opinion and for entertainment purposes only. Based on value to a franchise moving into the future next 5 years

1. Trevon Walker
2. Ahmad Gardner
3. Aiden Hutchinson
4. Charles Cross
5. Ikem Ekwonu
6. Evan Neal
7. Jermaine Johnson
8. Kyle Hamilton
9. Kayvon Thibodeaux
10. Malik Willis
11. DeVonte Wyatt
12. Garrett Wilson
13. David Ojabo
14. Jordan Davis
15. Tyler Linderbaum
16. Zion Johnson
17. Chris Olave
18. Nakobe Dean
19. Trent McDuffie
20. Jameson Williams

Love Hamilton and think he's going to be a great player.

I've got Davis ranked quite a bit higher. I think he can play about 40 quality snaps per game and an athlete like that can be taught how to rush the passer.

1. Trevon Walker #3 to your HOUSTON TEXANS
2. Ahmad Gardner #5 New York Giants
3. Aiden Hutchinson #2 to the Detroit Lions
4. Charles Cross #7 New York Giants
5. Ikem Ekwonu #1 to Jacksonville (ironically, shortly after Dane posted his mock the Jaguars franchise tagged Cam Robinson)
6. Evan Neal #4 to NY Jets
7. Jermaine Johnson #10 NY Jets
8. Kyle Hamilton #8 Atlanta Falcons
9. Kayvon Thibodeaux #9 Kayvon Thibodeaux (pick now belongs to the Packers)
10. Malik Willis #18 New Orleans Saints
11. DeVonte Wyatt #23 Arizona Cardinals
12. Garrett Wilson #13 Cleveland Browns
13. David Ojabo #17 LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (don't hate this pick but would take DeVonte Wyatt, higher on my big board)
14. Jordan Davis #14 Baltimore Ravens
15. Tyler Linderbaum #31 Cincinnati Bengals
16. Zion Johnson #20 Pittsburg Steelers
17. Chris Olave #19 Philadelphia Eagles
18. Nakobe Dean #29 Miami Dolphins
19. Trent McDuffie #15 Philadelphia Eagles
20. Jameson Williams #26 Tennesse Titans

Dane Brugler just came out today with his post combine mock draft (he could have waited until after the franchise tag announced). Otherwise pretty much in agreement except for Commanders selecting Kenny Pickett (arm reminds me of Baker Mayfield) over Malek Willis who evidently, is still rising. Also I like DeVonte Wyatt a whole lot more, not sure what's got left to prove, checked every box then some.

Wyatt is an impressive athlete .... but .... what about points .... we gotta have points ! :pissed:

Don’t know if you saw this, more work needed, regardless of team need, use bpa and keep true to your board, despite the noise and what pundits say.

Pretty spot on with Brugler before his mock came out (we see same things). Trevon to Texans would be epic pick. Ahmad Gardner, the Sauce would be next best pick. Not interested in safety this high. Like Daxton Hill better with 2nd rd. pick, he can play CB as well as safety either high post or in the box.

Hill is going to be a great player.

Looks like the secondary is going be really strong in this draft.

So .... the offense has been relegated to the back seat, huh ? Well Okay ! Points put butts in seats .... but okay. Hey, I like a good - 2 point safety - as well as the next man .... and those extra point blocks .... oh my gosh, to die for ! This is going to be a crap shoot .... from now on, I don't even sit down at the computer, without a hand tied behind my back !

I've still got Neal at #1 but have moved Walker up to #2 on my board because I see so much untapped potential due to the scheme he played in.

Disagree.

Its still not a big deal. And those numbers are still applicable.

Go look at the best players in the league and look at their combine numbers.

Sure there is a baseline for being a top pro athlete, but putting up amazing combine numbers isn't even close to being a pre-requisite to being a great pro player. Never has been and more than likely never will be.

Big proponent of taking Best Available Player, position of need (both sides of ball) higher positional value higher the grade. But then if you have your sights on going offense, would suggest trading down to point on your board where once again BPA meets up.

So here is an example, I have Charles Cross #4 on my Texan board and know Giants are a team needing OT help, if they pass, take different player or position you can bet they double back with that #7 pick so in advance I’m taking calls from teams picking #5 & #6 who want that #3 pick, see who gives us best offer, trade back take Cross, if it’s their 2nd rd pick for trading up, I would select Breece Hall. Now you have your franchise LT and Bell Cow RB, throw in a great DB/S/CB Dax Hill to replace Reed and think you’ve really succeeded improving this offense and replacing key defensive piece.

Yes. Good Job. Excellent. Sounds more like Mike Holovak !

While everyone (rightfully) has been raving about how fast this group ran at the combine… I can’t help but notice the bench numbers seem lower than usual.

Zion Johnson’s 32 reps were the most? Lots of athletes not lifting? Maybe focusing on speed work and then will lift at their pro day?

Agreed with the theory.

But I wouldn't drop down below 5 because I dont think Walker falls below 5 and I've got him rated as my # 2 guy. I really dont like any of the RB's that high in the draft. Love Hill and wouldn't have an issue with him at #37. But I doubt he falls to 37.
